FnkyChkn34 February 25 Share February 25 Ok... what? Is that really how two people ride on a jetski? Each half standing and 3 hands on the handlebars to steer? Did the two guys really go into a bathroom to fight? Why, they didn't want sand in their shorts? Kainalu can't afford rent on an apartment but he's going to buy a farm? This might have been the dumbest episode yet... 1 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152056-s01e15-south-winds/#findComment-8590544
blackwing February 25 Share February 25 I found many things about this episode to be annoying. Will and Em meet for lunch to talk. But the only thing we hear them talk about is her mom. Scene cuts and then they're done with lunch. Did they even talk about their relationship? Will got into a fight over her so it seems like they aren't done, but why wouldn't the show actually show us the conversation? Stupid. I dislike Sonny. Laka wants to be promoted to lieutenant so now Sonny is all "you aren't responsible enough" and Laka is all "yes I am" so now Sonny is proving a point and making him get up early to go to his house to repair a fishing net. Whatever. Laka isn't a child. I'm glad he stood up for himself to tell Sonny about how he takes care of his Tutu so he knows what it means to be responsible. The way Sonny was treating him reminds me so much of a horrible boss I had. The new guy. Why? New guy looks like he's in his 50s, why is he still in a tower? Sounds like this guy is sticking around, ugh. What happened to Kenji? Is Kenji from District 7 or a different district? I'd rather have Kenji as a regular than this new guy. Em's mom. Ugh. Must be in her mid to late 50s but still talks in her little girl voice and acts like a little girl. Sounds like she might be sticking around as well. The rescues. Broken canoe was just stupid, they should have seen right away that there was a hole in it. But I guess it was a plot point to get Will and Em working well together. The fraternity party just irritated me to no end. They have one pledge and these losers are on a power trip to make him do whatever they want. They almost killed him with all that alcohol in him and not letting him hang on to anything. The president (who I think was the main tool, the one that the girl seemed to be attached to) should be charged with reckless endangerment and probably facilitating underage drinking. The only good part of this episode was Kainalu and Hina. I like the way they comfortably interact with each other. But at the end... he sees a vacant plot of 7 acres that said it is zoned to allow a farmhouse. There doesn't seem to be an existing farmhouse. He is seriously thinking about buying it, or getting his parents to buy it? If he has the money why can't he just rent an expensive place and let Hina pay what she can afford? Or why doesn't he move home and tell his parents they need to let Hina move in to a spare bedroom as well? 6 hours ago, FnkyChkn34 said: Did the two guys really go into a bathroom to fight? I'd have liked to have seen Will throw New Guy head first into a nasty urinal, that seems to be a staple of the Bathroom Fight trope. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152056-s01e15-south-winds/#findComment-8590880

I understand that they didn't want to be seen, but the whole thing was so incredibly juvenile. Do civilized men really still do that? "You looked at my ex-girlfriend, so let's fight. 4:00, behind the school." It's like something from a 1950s teen movie. And in a bathroom - gross. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152056-s01e15-south-winds/#findComment-8590899
Crashcourse February 25 Share February 25 I like the new guy. I'd rather see him than Em and Will. Em's mother looks better than she does. If Kainalu and HIna aren't going to be a couple, they should find separate places. If they meet other people, it would be strange to introduce a person of the opposite sex as a roommate. He could get help from his parents, and is there a studio apartment available that she could afford to rent? Agreed, it was juvenile and gross. Will is 40, New Guy is 50, not sure why they are brawling like they are in high school. Didn't New Guy say he has 6 months left until retirement? Why act like a teen? 2 minutes ago, Crashcourse said: If Kainalu and HIna aren't going to be a couple, they should find separate places. I think Kainalu's parents would be more than happy to help out, but then he will feel like he owes his dad. Nothing seems like it is free with his dad. He doesn't want to feel like he owes him. His dad disapproves of his career choice and seemed to suggest that he would be taken care of if he quit being a lifeguard. Kainalu refused, that's why he returned the truck and why he was paying rent for the condo. He couldn't afford to pay all of the rent, which is why he took on Hina as a roommate. I don't think Hina can afford anything on the North Shore, she said the rent was $2,500 for the cheapest place. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152056-s01e15-south-winds/#findComment-8590935

I’m assuming they live at the home they grew up in with their parents. Like the young guy who has been in the tower occasionally. I think his first or last name is Carter? Probably lives at home. Hina doesn’t want to live at home because of issues with her mom. It seems like her mom runs some kind of day care out of her home? So yeah, Hina would probably be put to work whenever she is around and she doesn’t want any of that. Maybe if she's no longer living, he inherited her house. Em looked like she had a small place of her own. She didn't grow up in Hawaii; I think she's from San Diego. Maybe she's been there long enough that her rent was affordable (pre-pandemic, maybe). Will lived with Julie who was rich, so where he is now is anyone's guess. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/152056-s01e15-south-winds/#findComment-8592968
