So were there other volunteers assisting the other teachers that we just didn't see? Or is our gang so special that they were the only ones to get them? That's the only thing that bugged me about this episode, lol. I've watched several episodes of Sunny - mostly on planes when I travel for work - and have always found it to be pretty funny, so I didn't have an issue with the crossover. But I honestly didn't know or wasn't paying attention to the fact that the show was still airing new episodes. It's been on forever, hasn't it? I stopped watching Sunny over 10 years ago so it has been on forever. On Sunny, I kinda love to hate Sweet Dee. On Abbot I just hate her but that is the point. She sabotaged a relationship with an awesome person (Janine) to assuage her ego. On Sunny Dee has only awful people in her life but she is also truly awful so it seems fitting. She is really pathetic. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151310-s04e09-volunteers/page/2/#findComment-8554675
ashleytylerjohn February 2 Share February 2 I'm a fan of both shows, enjoyed this immensely, and was hugely surprised by how well the writers made it work. These two shows are outrageously dissimilar in tone, so pulling it off to this extent—making it seem like, to some people, a not-very-good-episode of the show—is still almost a miracle. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151310-s04e09-volunteers/page/2/#findComment-8570396
PurpleTentacle February 3 Share February 3 (edited) That's a crazy crossover, considering the different tones and target demographics of these shows. But somehow they still managed to not write the gang out of character. It all seemed like things they would do. I guess Charlie having learned to read will not carry foreward, given the stinger at the end. A bit of a bummer, that would have been a fun change. Glenn Howerton seems to have had other filming obligations at the time. he was in exactly 3 scenes and 2 were in the same location, probably filmed back to back. But it is in Dennis' character to either try to hog the cameras or try to avoid them entirely, depending on the day, so it works. Really fun and crazy episode. Still a bit baffled how many people seem to love "HPI: Haut Potentiel Intellectuel ordered on wish". Maybe it's because I watched the original first, maybe otherwise I would have liked High Potential, but it's just so boringly shot and written compared to the orignal. Like HPI is something truely special and High potential is just your generic cop show with one weird twist, like the countless cop shows with one weird twist before it. "The gang does a school shooting" sounds very much like a Sunny episode though. Did that already happen or they still have to do it? I'm way behind on Sunny. I can only ever binge so much of that show before my brain gets wonky. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151310-s04e09-volunteers/page/2/#findComment-8571166

I haven't seen HPI and didn't know High Potential was an American remake. I'm sure if I watched the original, I too would find High Potential to be Middling Potential. I feel that way about Ghosts. The British original is perfect. The American version is good but suffers in comparison. But I like High Potential. I like the characters, esp Kaitlin Olson's. I think she's great on the show. I also like the quirky reenactments. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151310-s04e09-volunteers/page/2/#findComment-8571200
