Well this was the saddest thing ever.

Mama Elena is the absolute worst, but I am here for her wardrobe.

So, season 1 of LWFC covers until Chapter 5 of the book.

The way Mama Elena responding to the bandits by dominating the situation proves that she is still a rebel. Gertrudis and Tita are so much like her. Mama Elena is authoritative, Gertrudis is fearless and Tita is more on the nurturing side.

After years of abuse, the death of Robertito has broken Tita’s spirit. She refuses to pretend that everything is normal. Mama Elena denies Tita’s right to grieve by forcibly sending her to an asylum. 😢

Poor Fina. Now she has more house chores on her To-Do list.

I haven’t read the book. Was this the last episode of the season?  What a sad way to end if so.

Thanks for the info. I was very confused because I had read that the series would have 11 episodes, and for some reason I thought that meant that season 1 would be 11 episodes and season 2 something along those lines. That makes more sense as there's nowhere near enough material for that. (Although now it's even more baffling that they added all that stuff about Revolutionary War Hero Pedro Múzquiz when they didn't need to pad the story that much since they have two books to draw from).

And Irene Azuela is doing a masterful job because she is EXACTLY how I imagined Mamá Elena (minus all the non-book nonsense they've added to her character). I have seen her in other things and she usually plays the romantic lead, so she was the last person I would have cast to play this character, but she has completely transformed herself.

I was afraid they would chicken out of killing off Roberto because it would be too dark (and it's not like they haven't radically changed some other stuff to the point of making the show unrecognizable as an adaptation), but I'm glad they kept it in as it is a turning point for Tita's character (although, again, not in the way it was depicted on the show. One day I will stop being salty about this but that day is not today apparently 🙃).
