Is Everyone Gone September 10 Share September 10 Anything with Jeremy Strong is worth seeing, full stop. I saw him in "Enemy of the People" on Broadway and he was also fantastic. #1 boy forever. 1 Link to comment

revbfc September 14 Share September 14 I’m sick of Trump, but I still want to see this. How many rails do you think he snorts in the movie? 2 Link to comment

I hate the guy, but I love Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong and Biopics are one of my favorite genres. I'm leaning towards seeing it, but it may be tough to get through. If it changes anything, I'm pretty sure going to see the movie will not result in Trump, his companies, or any entity connected to him getting money. 4 Link to comment

I’m a bit meh on biopics (because they mostly stick to a standard template), but I do like films that focus on one part of a public figure’s life and telling a contained story. This looks like the latter, so I’m on board. 3 Link to comment

Shannon L. October 13 Share October 13 (edited) This was an interesting movie. I liked it, but I didn't love it. I felt the beginning was a bit slow and a bit of mess, really, but it got much better as it went along. Sebastian Stan was able to capture the essence of Trump, using subtle facial expressions and body language and his pronunciation, without attempting to go all in, which would have surely looked like a caricature. Jeremy Strong was the highlight of the movie, though. His performance as Roy Cohn was really strong. I was really impressed with the way that he was able to garner a little bit of sympathy for this irredeemable person. I'm not sure that I like that the director wanted us to feel that way towards such an awful person, but there was a reason for it: when someone like Roy Cohn realizes that Trump has gone a little too far, even for the likes of him, what does that tell you about the Trump himself? I knew the movie was going to be negative for Trump, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. I suppose that could be because I knew almost everything going in (even the rape). In the end, though, if you are a Trump supporter, you'll think it's all lies and if you are not, then you're going to come out feeling like your thoughts about him and what you've heard about him have been confirmed. I'll be interested to see if it gets any nominations during awards season. Edited October 13 by Shannon L. 1 1 Link to comment
EtheltoTillie October 13 Share October 13 I wasn't able to catch it this weekend after all, as it wasn't at the local theater. Will try next week. 1 Link to comment
EtheltoTillie October 17 Share October 17 I finally got to see this today. I thought it was a really interesting movie. The performances by Strong and Stan were excellent, and the sets and design were very true to period. I agree with @Shannon L. above that both Cohn and Trump were given some humanizing moments. Some of the script was hit you over the head with the parallels to today, as in "never concede defeat." Both are also revealed to be so sleazy that I felt a bit unclean afterward. Still a fascinating watch. 1 Link to comment
