DanaK May 23 Share May 23 National Geographic and Hulu announced today the premiere of the third installment of the Emmy(R) Award-winning, critically acclaimed franchise ONE DAY IN AMERICA with the Hulu Original CULT MASSACRE: ONE DAY IN JONESTOWN. The three-part series from Emmy Award-winning 72 Films' executive producers David Glover and Mark Raphael, BAFTA Award-winning director Marian Mohamed, along with Academy Award(R)-winning filmmakers Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin will premiere June 17 on Hulu and will air on National Geographic on Aug. 14. CULT MASSACRE: ONE DAY IN JONESTOWN tells the story of an idealistic religious organization led by the infamous Jim Jones, who set out to establish a utopian community in Guyana. What began as a peaceful movement seeking social justice ultimately spiraled into a mass casualty that left 918 dead. Told by survivors and eyewitnesses, along with rare footage and rare recordings of Jones, the powerful series takes an immersive look into the final harrowing hours leading up to one of America's darkest chapters. I was 15 when it happened and seeing 900+ dead bodies caused by deliberate means on TV certainly left an impression on me. I definitely was fascinated by it and same as you, not really in a positive way. I've seen other docs of this event that were pretty good so hopefully this one is too 1 Link to comment
AheadofStraight July 2 Share July 2 We watched it a couple of weeks ago. It was amazing to have so much actual footage and definitely worth watching. I had forgotten this was the main reason for the "drinking the Kool-Aid" saying (even though it wasn't actually Kool-Aid there). 1 Link to comment
merylinkid July 9 Share July 9 Finally finished it. I don't think I have ever seen a documentary that featured the survivors so much. Or what happened to them after they returned to the US. Did not realize the aide wound up sitting in Leo Ryan's seat when Rep. Lantos died. I'm sure everyone from that day has PTSD. I hope they are all doing better. 1 Link to comment
Armchair Critic July 16 Share July 16 I am skeptical about Jim Jones' son, I think he was more involved in the bad stuff and knew more of what was going on. 1 Link to comment

DanaK August 15 Author Share August 15 I just watched this via Nat Geo and the parts covering the mass murders in Parts 2 and 3 were hard to watch and listen to. I watched the news footage when it first occurred so that part of the story has always been hard to watch and listen to. The tapes of Jim Jones pushing members to kill themselves and their loves ones is always chilling to hear. I’ve watched a few docs on this over the years but I felt I heard some new stories. I felt bad for the cult survivors just trying to live their lives after such a shattering event. It appears at least some of them are in better frames of mind now. Congresswoman Speier managed to overcome her experience and go on to serve the people It’s good that the Jonestown event is now recognized as mass murder rather than mass suicide as described for awhile 3 Link to comment
