SNL Season 49 Speculation

Once the SAG strike is over, likely hosts could be anyone from the casts of Barbie or Oppenheimer. Maybe like four from that set of actors?

Also assuming that there won't be a show until the SAG strike is over, because even if SNL can technically continue, I think the performers could refuse to participate in solidarity.

But SNL is not a struck show for any union anymore. And they’re under contract. And from what I saw, SAG-AFTRA is telling their members to honor their contacts on those shows.  And while maybe the longer tenured cast members could get away with that. I doubt the younger featured players could. And they’re probably hurting for money. As are the crew, who I’m sure would be eager to get back to work.

My guess is that the show will be back soon. If not next week, the week after. I’m also guessing that the entire cast is coming back, or at least those that want to. I would not be surprised if we saw some changes mid season though.

Several cast members have posted on their Instagram Stories in the last few days that they are back in New York already, including Michael Longfellow, who just a few weeks ago had posted that he had stand-up dates scheduled for this weekend in South Carolina.

It feels wild that the show could be coming back this early, but everything I've heard indicates this is the case. Maybe we'll get an announcement today about something.

It was announced on-air during Saturday's rerun that the 10/7 show will be a rerun of the Steve Martin/Martin Short episode. So no new episode this week.

Oct. 14th is still a possibility, but Colin Jost and Michael Che have a show scheduled at Radio City Music Hall on that night. That seems like it would be a hassle to reschedule, so maybe they're just gonna wait this out (and hopefully the SAG strike will be over by then) and start on the 21st.

It looks like that show has been rescheduled to the 15th, which leaves the 14th still open, potentially.
