S35: Steve Cargile and Anna Leigh Wilson

Two demerits for Anna Leigh on this last leg.

First she was suspicious of the way the fish market judge was giving them thumbs down the first couple of times.

That judge was awesome BTW but AL wasn't feeling her.

Turns out they missed the bucket of eels and thought it was one of the other fish trays that was wrong but no other team had the same problems.  Seemed like most of them got it on the first try.

Then at the tile task, she was there the longest and talked to one of the other racers about working together.  The other racer didn't say anything and AL judged them, something about their true colors.

Then the other team beat them to the mat and that was AL's "nightmare."

Some beauty pageant mean girls vibes?

After 5 legs, they may be one of the main targets of the upcoming U-turn, because AL has perhaps rubbed some of the other racers the wrong way as well as perform very well.

But long term, are they really among the best threats to win it all?

Steve was struggling going up that ramp to do the Indian dance task, which AL killed in.

If there are more legs featuring running or jogging for distance or uphills, they could be severely handicapped.

I could see this team being invited back for an all-star season, given that they just missed running the final leg this season.

Doesn't hurt that AL is very photogenic.

But a few years from now, Steve may be even less able to keep up and could be a medical risk.

Have they ever had all-star teams invited back with just one of the team members paired with someone else?

There must be a story for why she didn't get her husband to race or maybe even a younger friend, since she's so competitive as she says.

She probably thinks she would have won or at least made the final leg with a more physically fit partner.

Sure she can give platitudes about doing something with her father, how it drew them closer, etc. but she seems the type to be cold-blooded about getting results.

They mentioned a few times that this was their way of spending time together now that she's married and likely to try to start a family soon.

She and her dad really wanted to do this together.  They've said that multiple times.  Read their interview in Parade - I think it's one of the better team interviews.  Steve didn't think it would be as physically taxing as it was - he knew it would be hard, but not that hard.

I don't begrudge any racer that is open about their competitiveness and their desire to win.  They all want to win.  It's why they're there.  I'd rather have an entire race of uber-competitive teams than a bunch of "we're here to work on our relationship" teams.  ugh.
