This has occurred to me before, things vs places. Like the koi pond at Niles & Maris's house. A pond is a thing but is the koi pond a thing or a place? I can see it going either way.

If you want to get technical, any place is also a thing. Koi pond is a tougher call, but a building? That’s a place.
