Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny star as parents Jose and Kitty Menendez.

Newcomers Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch portraying brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez.

Nathan Lane also joins the cast as investigative journalist Dominick Dunne, who covered the trials for Vanity Fair.

Ari Graynor will play Leslie Abramson, one of the most prominent Los Angeles defense attorneys in the ’80s and ’90s who becomes lead counsel for Erik Menendez.

Leslie Grossman (American Horror Story) will play Judalon Smyth, a former patient and mistress of Erik Menendez’s therapist, Dr. Jerome Oziel, who found herself entangled in the Menendez case — and who ultimately played a key role in Lyle and Erik’s arrests.

Dallas Roberts will play Dr. Jerome Oziel, the self-protective and not-entirely-by-the-book therapist who Erik Menendez sees after the murder of his parents.

Jason Butler Harner will play Les Zoeller, the Beverly Hills PD detective in charge of the Menendez murders case. A to-the-point, logical man in search of the truth.

Enrique Murciano will play Carlos Baralt, an Americanized Cuban immigrant, professor, and lawyer. He’s the uncle of Lyle and Erik, brother-in-law to Jose Menendez, and the executor of the Menendez will.

Charlie Hall will play Craig Cignarelli.

Gil Ozeri will play Dr. William Vicary.

Jeff Perry will play Peter Hoffman.

Not the show in the media, but the original case:  Dominick Dunne's first article about it in Vanity Fair, from October 1990.  It clearly shows how little he thought of psychological defenses for murder.

(Note:  Might be paywalled, but it shouldn't be, if Conde Nast's not stupid.)

P.S. Is there a way to bump this show to the main forum page?  This, American Sports Story, and Agatha All Along all premiered this week and are absent, while stuff like Madam Secretary, Mare of Easttown, and Ray Donovan are still up there.

I am now obsessed with these homicides. In 1989, I was living in Manhattan.
I saw headlines and footage of those distinctive hairstyles and sweaters over dress shirts. But the people with whom I was hanging out were not discussing this case.
I had no idea the shootings were so brutal.
I am listening to podcasts voraciously.

In one, they describe how when they were bagging Jose’s body (hiding this in a spoiler because it’s extremely graphic),

his brain detached from his skull and slid across the marble floor.

I am surprised that Erik objects to this Ryan Murphy portrayal, because in my opinion, he comes across as sympathetic.

Was Brooke Shields a senior when Lyle was a freshman at Princeton?

Now I want to know more about Kitty and Jose’s families.

Monsters’ Nicholas Alexander Chavez Takes a Swing at Sharing His Thoughts on Lyle Menendez, Erik’s Objections and the Brothers’ Guilt

Quote

“When you’re playing a character like this, you want to remove as much judgment as you can and empathize as much as you can.

Ultimately, I understand that some of the behavior that he has in this show is difficult for people to digest but my performance sits at the nexus of so many things. It sits at the nexus of the research I have done, the scripts I was given, the direction that I was given and the strong interpretation and point of view that I formed of this person who is, in my view, one of the most enigmatic human beings to have lived in the last 100 years.”

Ryan Murphy On ‘Monsters’ Criticism From Menéndez Brothers’ Family Who Call Series “Phobic” & “Gross”: “I Feel Like That’s Faux Outrage”

Murphy said that the series is “the best thing that has happened to the Menéndez brothers in 30 years”.

Quote

“It’s everywhere. Their case is suddenly a water cooler conversation. A lot of people think that they were dealt a bad hand in that second trial, a lot of people think they should get a new trial, and I think having those conversations are good. And I know that from prison, the boys have told people in prison that they’re glad about this show because it is launching so many conversations. So, if we’re doing anything that can further a conversation about abuse and also ask the question ‘was that second trial fair?’ then I did my job.”

Is there any media outlet doing one of those episode-by-episode "Fact vs Fiction" features? I've seen some broad strokes for the whole series but nothing that does much of a deep dive. (I found one for American Sports Story but not this one.)

Ryan Murphy Predicts Menendez Brothers Will Be ‘Out of Prison by Christmas’

Quote

With news today that a court hearing has been set for Erik and Lyle Menendez as Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón considers new evidence that they were allegedly molested by their father, Murphy may consider extending the season.

“I think what I would be interested in doing, if Nicholas [Alexander Chavez] and Cooper [Koch] would agree to do it, is maybe one or two episodes that continue the story.”

My future husband who already has a boyfriend Cooper Koch is quite a find and has skillfully navigated questions and criticisms about the show:

And some funny facts about him:

He just seems so sweet and funny.
