Jacob lamenting about the cities was stupid. If no cities developed on the east coast, his ancestors would still be stuck in Europe as there would be no economic opportunity for them here. His lament is typical rural American fantasy in that they believe they don't need cities/urban centers and would be better off if they had their own state without having to deal with the politics of the "liberal woke cities", completely disregarding that these cities are the drivers of economic activity and provide all of the tax dollars that allow them to function in their little rural utopias. I'm looking at you, state of Jefferson. LOL 2 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/137009-s01e6-one-ocean-closer-to-destiny/page/2/#findComment-7871916
Wyndsong February 15, 2023 Share February 15, 2023 I'm still enjoying the show but I find Alex so annoying and don't care at all about her romance with Spencer. The never-ending peril -- Lions! Shipwrecks! -- it's just so over the top. Get them to the Yellowstone already and I might change my mind about them, or at least become more invested. I'm interested in what's happening in Montana. That's where the story is for me. I fear they might drag Spencer and Alex's journey out to the end of the season, unfortunately. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/137009-s01e6-one-ocean-closer-to-destiny/page/2/#findComment-7872084

Not unlike Elsa, who also worked my last nerve, but yet, I like Alex and I liked Elsa (probably at a table for one LOL). And they're also both so headstrong and "plucky". And yet, like you, I like them. I think Taylor Sheridan is great at cinematography. I remember the first few seasons of "Yellowstone", I was totally enamored of the "land porn". But, I also like his writing. Not his storytelling because I think his storylines are, at best, average. But some of the dialogue, soaring ideas and pictures he creates with words, words frequently strung together in unanticipated and uncommon ways, really sets his stuff apart. I'm thinking, e.g., of Rainwater in the first episode of "Yellowstone" saying he was raised to believe he was Mexican: "As a Mexican, I would face discrimination. But as an Indian, I would know a hatred that had to be endured to be fully understood." From that to Sam Elliott's "1883" speech about a piece of his late wife's soul living inside him, enabling her to finally see the beach for the first time through his eyes all the way to HF telling HM that he's holding on to the land for children not yet born. Before the opening credits, I can almost always tell when Sheridan's written an episode himself. Those episodes have words that stay with me. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/137009-s01e6-one-ocean-closer-to-destiny/page/2/#findComment-7872233

There is a distinct difference however - while they both come from wealth and privilege, Alex doesn't seem horrible to others (that we've seen), whereas Beth embraces her wealth and uses it to be entirely nasty to everyone she is around. Beth is a sociopath. I don't know if she is meant to be that on paper, but the character is one 10 hours ago, Cool Breeze said: I'm thinking, e.g., of Rainwater in the first episode of "Yellowstone" saying he was raised to believe he was Mexican: "As a Mexican, I would face discrimination. I am not sure but I think this sentence is a badly written plagiarized part of a statement forma real character. I would have to go back and check. I have read a few books on Indigenous history and watched a few documentaries so I cannot confirm or have the citation. But it sounds too familiar to me, and I didn't really like the few Yellowstone episodes I watched so I don't that quote would stay with me. But who knows? Maybe it did. As for the rest of his dialogues I think they have too much platitude, too many words that put together don't mean much, or could have been said with fewer words. 12 hours ago, Wyndsong said: I fear they might drag Spencer and Alex's journey out to the end of the season, unfortunately. I think you are right. I will speculate that they will arrive on the last season, Spencer sick and Alex pregnant. That's if the "second season" is a hoax. If not, they will end the season, literally, with them arriving in Montana and an open shot of the mountains, the beauty, the hope for the future (cue sentimental music). Then they will pick up Spencer and Alex's story in the next season. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/137009-s01e6-one-ocean-closer-to-destiny/page/2/#findComment-7873109

Sunnykm February 27, 2023 Share February 27, 2023 I am looking forward to Cara and Spencer reunion. She must feel like a mother to him and he a son to her, having lost his parents at a young age. As someone said above, the ranch will have many amenities by the time Alex and Spencer arrive. Taylor travel timing is so off. 1883 was only in Kansas?? at the end and two shows to go, Spencer is still on the eastern coast of Africa. Come on, get the characters to their destinations so we can see them live and work the land they inherit. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/137009-s01e6-one-ocean-closer-to-destiny/page/2/#findComment-7888790
millennium April 16, 2023 Share April 16, 2023 God, I hate Alex. She's not a woman, she's a romance novel caricature. And everyone is simply mesmerized by her, even the seasoned ship's captain who hasn't a second thought about sacrificing his dead wife's ring to facilitate Alex's rapture. I hate her smugness, I hate how she's posing every moment, I hate her endless overly-wordy repartee and the way she drops her voice into a lower register because she thinks it makes her sound cute. I hate her even more than Elsa and I didn't think that was possible. I was totally rooting for the shark in this episode. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/137009-s01e6-one-ocean-closer-to-destiny/page/2/#findComment-7961150
jnetjj April 16, 2023 Share April 16, 2023 I'm afraid to tell it... but I like Alex's character. I am just wondering, will she evolve in the upcoming episodes? I mean smth tells me she won't remain just a romance novel caricature. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/137009-s01e6-one-ocean-closer-to-destiny/page/2/#findComment-7961679
