Another filler - with some fantastic visuals and a great score - but still a filler. For a moment I thought things were getting exciting with the gigantic structure being an ancient ship. But then it turned out to be a stupid meccazilla whose mechanics made even less sense than an AT walker's (I know, I know).

I miss an overall arc for this season. Going on sidequests because credits are tight is getting repetitive. I'm sure things will get interesting when we return to Crosshair. But at the moment it feels like show is stalling.

So the last guys to leave the planet managed to trap the mech, turn it off and not get eaten by the watchdog [how is it still alive?] but did not destroy the compass upon reaching space?

For me, I don’t care if a show is filler or not- I just want the episode itself to be good.  Sometimes that can involve advancing some greater narrative- but mostly it means a story that has a point, or where we learn something about one or more of the characters.  Last week we got to see a different side to Tech, and it told a message about not relying on conventional wisdom to approach a problem.  There wasn’t much story progress, but it was a solid episode nonetheless.

I don’t think we get much of any of that from this one.  Like other posters, I enjoyed the Indiana Jones vibes, and I think the puzzles with the compass would be fun if I used them in a d&d game.  But, I don’t think the characters learn much, and they end up in pretty much the same condition that they started in.  The giant robot thing was cool- but I don’t get how it, or the gem thing, worked.  It’s fine that they had to give up the gem to stop the robot- but they’ve lost loot over some greater purpose before too.  The first storyline this season comes to mind- we don’t need to relearn the same lessons.
