It is beyond overdue that this show lets other characters take the lead. While this case could be interesting, watching mopey is not. 

FFS every single other character does not even get one episode to 'recover' from their trauma & this is what 4 episodes now of the deserted wife's whiny & moping? No wonder Jay fled the country & is ignoring her, the chick is depressing AF.

Also, I am expecting the Chief to help out once he gets over the shock.... they cannot do another 'white shirt/badguy' trope on this show....PLEASE.
