Peacock is releasing an American version of the British series TV Series "Queer as Folk" originally created by Russell T. Davies and Stephen Dunn. The series will release all 8 episodes on Thursday, June 9.

Starzplay has acquired the new TV series “Queer as Folk” for a number of territories including the U.K., several continental European countries, and Latin America. The eight-episode show will premiere in the U.K. on July 1, with other local premieres rolling out exclusively in the other territories on July 31. The release schedule will be two new episodes each week.

The new Queer as Folk TV series considers itself more of a re-imagining of the previous shows, rather than a reboot.

Queer as Folk aims to depict queer characters who live in the messy middle. People who are complicated, funny, caring, flawed and sometimes selfish, but still worthy of love, and still worthy of narrative by exploring the lives of a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy, a Pulse-like nightclub shooting in a New Orleans gay bar called "Babylon". This is the story of how the city’s LGBTQ community rebuilds itself.

There were no less than three relationships that I objected strongly to as being completely ridiculous (boning your ex’s brother is a bad idea!  Sleeping with the mother of your grandchild is a bad idea! Suddenly Declaring your undying love for your best friend, who is now a trans woman WITH A WIFE AND YOUR KIDS is peak home-wrecker behavior!) as a bad idea outside of serving the ridiculous plot.

I hope Queen Kim Cattrall makes it out of this unscathed, but this is absolutely no loss for television.  Maybe for Peacock, because they need the money and the viewers.

The best way to put this is that trying to sell a reboot on the fact that it doesn't fit the 2000's Abercrombie & Fitch standard of what's hot isn't enough. There's so much more competition now compared to what the 2nd iteration of QAF faced and you have to have compelling, relatable characters to stand out now. I also think maybe they should have read the room and realized that basing the pilot around a fictionalized version of the Pulse nightclub shooting was not going to fly well with the demographic they're going after. There's a reason why Heartstopper reasonated  with people.
