marinw May 2, 2022 Share May 2, 2022 (edited) This is my new favouite show! So much emotion without being historonic. The last few minutes were so tense. What IS it with me and shows almost no one watches? Kate Mulgrew! Showtime is getting it's money's worth on that cover of "This Land", as it is also used on "the First Lady" Edited May 3, 2022 by marinw Link to comment
Netfoot May 3, 2022 Share May 3, 2022 This show sure seems to be firing on all cylinders so far! If they keep on like this and avoid knocking over the woke barrel, this is aiming to be a real classic. It's been a while since I saw the movie with Bowie in it. So you think it would be beneficial to watch that again, just so as to be better able to follow along? 1 Link to comment

I saw it a very long time ago and remember it as being very slow but still quite good. So why don't the Antheans try to form a colony on Earth? Edited May 3, 2022 by marinw Link to comment
AnimeMania May 3, 2022 Author Share May 3, 2022 The show is a real-time continuation of what happened in the 1976 movie so it might be nice to be familiar with what happened there to give you the context for what is happening. Unfortunately, although the movie is on Prime Video, you will have to pay to see/rent it. Link to comment
marinw May 3, 2022 Share May 3, 2022 (edited) This show is deeply sad (one planet dying and another self-destructibg) without indulgeing is misery porn. This show reminds me of Chernobyl that way. I would like some information on what happened on Anthea. Was it always that way, like Arrakis/Dune? Climate change? If their sun(s) is about to nova, there's no point in staying One thing we have learned since the novel was published is that our solar system hadsa lot of water: on the Moon, Mars, a bunch of moons orbiting the outer planets. We also know there are many, many expoplanets. So surely water is not too hard to find for a civilization capable of faster-then-light travel? V also dealt with aliens looking for water, but that show (both iterations) was silly, TMWFTE is more serious. Edited May 4, 2022 by marinw Link to comment

Well, it seems to be gearing up around climate change, if that's something you prefer to avoid... By the way, that agent is a real asshole. Was he fucking with the waitress because she was non-white? His boss also seemed like raging racist bee-yotch. Which I will overlook as long as possible, since I love Kate Mulgrew. I like Jimmi Simpson too, for that matter. But still...assholes. 1 Link to comment

True, but that's been a part of the primary rationale for the story from way back in Bowie's time. I can live with that OK. If they can leave out the really crazy stuff, they should be OK.
