Not to take away from his talent but he is THE reason there are so many lazy dessert "specialists" on Masterchef AU in any given season who cannot make a single item of dessert without using a blast chiller. 2 Link to comment

Yeah, Reynold is talented but he is overrated. 2 Link to comment

ppl May 2, 2022 Share May 2, 2022 (edited) John still hasn't learned that # of teammates ≠ # of dishes. I'd wager a hefty sum that Billie went along with his plan to make 3 dishes in 1 dessert! Alvin, who self-acknowledged that he had no idea about French cooking at all. had zero say. Everyone should just stay far away from John in team challenges or at least keep him as far away as possible in the planning stages. That fans' fish en papillote had zero colour. The fact that they had green beans on a separate dish should be an extra point off as well. Super happy that Michael and Sarah are safe. Aldo even made me smile with his comment about licking the bowl to Melissa. Not a fan of the season 5-esque battle between groups nor having people sit out of challenges. Ditch the groups and let everyone cook. Edited May 2, 2022 by ppl 1 Link to comment

Or she may have mentioned it but it has been edited out…😆 I sense arrogance from the Fans - their desserts team, Max and Harry too. The “sweet” girls were so happy to beat Billie/Alvin/John twice! 🙄🙄🙄 Who put delicate egg yolks on crispy potato with rough edges??? 🤦🏻♀️ Did Harry contribute more than Daniel and Keyma for their main? Her winning reaction was OTT. She helped Daniel with the fish and prepared the asparagus, that’s about it. 1 Link to comment

Is he as out of his depth as he seems to be or does he have skills I haven't observed yet? Seems a bit cruel if they brought him back just to trade on his past mishaps. Link to comment

Aside from the white chocolate disaster he was pretty much cannon fodder to be eliminated at some stage. He didn't grow or anything like the younguns such as Brendan (hehe still so happy for him that he bought a house) or Jess grew during the competition. I remember John as being the "due to be eliminated any day now" type of chef. They brought him back purely for the white chocolate drama imo. 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 2, 2022 Author Share May 2, 2022 Where's Mindy? I watched Season 7 but I couldn't remember much about John. My eyes were always on Billie, Georgia and Reynold. Maybe, they brought him back thinking he could be as likeable as Reece and Khanh but hmmm.... John is no stranger to desserts and chocolate, if he focus, he will survive Reynold's pressure test tomorrow. 1 Link to comment

It didn't really show him in the best light. Link to comment

While he gets a bad rap for the white chocolate veloute moment, he won 3 Mystery Box challenges and had one of the top 3 dishes in an invention test. He's a top ten cook from the season and is certainly stronger than Stephen, Amy or Rose who placed ahead of him. 7 hours ago, katisha said: He seems a nice enough guy but I felt last night's antics were a bit childish i.e. "you don't like my food so I'm going to pack my bat and ball and go home". It didn't really show him in the best light. He, along with Alvin and Julie have been placing undue pressure on themselves to get dishes right. I can understand how placing so much pressure on oneself can lead to a full scale breakdown when you want to plate up food that is perfection. I don't like John but I think he needs to let go of being the pariah and cook. I know he can cook well because I saw it back in season 7. People just get blinded by white chocolate veloute moment and forget about all the dishes that he cooked well. Andy, Billie is not the parfait wizard. That would be Elise (season 8). Billie is the semifreddo queen along with Ashleigh (season 7). Get it right. You're a judge for goodness sakes! What's next? Are you going to mix up gelato, ice cream, panna cotta, mousse too? Why is everyone pronouncing turmeric as tumeric? Reynold's back next episode. Will his dessert be another stunner in looks but light in flavour? 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 3, 2022 Author Share May 3, 2022 (edited) Sorry Reynold, I’d always prefer real desserts than this! 😆 📌 Noi - combined elements from dishes Reynold has previously cooked during MasterChef. Edited May 3, 2022 by SnazzyDaisy Added info on Noi. Link to comment

ppl May 4, 2022 Share May 4, 2022 I wish Reynold had made a brand new dessert from his time away from Masterchef rather than using different elements from different dishes on Masterchef to create a new dessert. With his sugar ball dessert and now this, it just seems like he takes elements from what he sees on Masterchef and hastily recreates it. I want to see what sort of techniques he's learned outside of Masterchef because we've seen these techniques done before and better by the "original" chef. The judges didn't really seem to praise John's flavours,. They praised Jenn's sorbet and jasmine flavour and Alvin's entire dish with his flavours but we didn't hear much about John's flavours. Max deserved to go home. He actually deserved to go in the first elimination for his tart being undercooked and the filling being too dense but he got lucky. If I had to guess the top 10 from here, I would bet on: Billie Michael Harry Melanie Alvin Tommy Sarah Julie Mindy Steph/Keyma/Montana This seems faves heavy with only 3 fans making it but if they have some sort of quota, I can see Alvin or Tommy being bumped for someone like Keyma/Montana to balance the scales more. The guys this season haven't been strong so I think we're going to have a severe gender imbalance once more guys get canned. Link to comment

katisha May 6, 2022 Share May 6, 2022 Is it just me or are others out there feeling less than enthralled by this season? It's kind of like we have the B or C team of "favourites" and some fans who as a group aren't very strong. What with that and the Julie-centric edit, I'm watching a lot of episodes whilst doing other things which is something I never used to do with Masterchef. I think what they've tried to do isn't really working because we had SUCH a great season of returning contestants in the first year of COVID. I'm not sure the two concepts mix that well. Just my 2c worth. Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy May 6, 2022 Author Share May 6, 2022 (edited) On top of the weird concept, the challenges so far were mostly kind of meh. Adriano Zumbo’s waffle, Curtis ‘Coles’ Stone and Shannon Bennett’s boojie mystery box were all underwhelming. We also didn’t see much mentoring for the past 3 weeks except from Shannon during the French service challenge. And ohh, too much service challenges for my liking. Where’s the Invention Test? Snazzy Daisy May 6, 2022 Author Share May 6, 2022 Talking about skill… hey Rey Rey, do you remember the snooze fest panna cotta that you made during the team relay challenge in Back To Win? You failed the panna cotta 101 and your team lost. 🙄 1 Link to comment
