Hiyo March 20, 2022 Share March 20, 2022 Hard to believe it's been 30 years since this movie was released. I remember it a HUGE deal then (end of middle school and early high school for me), and that was without the internet and social media. Can you imagine if Twitter was around then? An interesting article looking back at the movie. Basic Instinct at 30: a lurid throwback to when Hollywood still took risks. 1 Link to comment

I think the movie had many scenes that would’ve been considered risqué at the time ie the interrogation scene, the implied blowjob and cunnilingus, the bondage, the gay lover (being gay was still taboo back then) etc. I can’t recall if Sharon Stone showed her breast in the movie. I think Michael Douglas showed his ass though. Anyways I think it was risqué for 1992 when it was released but nowadays would be considered tamed. 😂 1 2 Link to comment

And I remember when Maria Shriver interviewed Michael Douglas, he tried to pass of showing his ass as "I was baring my tush" and she called him on it and said with a laugh: "You were naked, Michael!" I just remember crying when Max Greevy*George Dzundza bit it; but then he played the typical trope of hero of partner dying/getting murdered in these types of movies. *Dzundza had played Sergeant Max Greevy, who was killed off after the first season of Mothership Law & Order. aghst March 21, 2022 Share March 21, 2022 Yeah 30 years ago they went to places which are unusual. Now with porn everywhere, it seems tame. But even in the early '90s, weren't there movies like 9 1/2 Weeks and other supposedly mainstream features which took risks or should I say risques? There were whispers that such and such couple really had sex on camera and so on. There was one Italian or French film where an actress performed fellatio -- not like in porn films, just putting it in her mouth for a few seconds -- and that film got a release in the US and some coverage. Some critics were outraged and panned it. I think it was a female director and she had done "serious" films before and after. 1 Link to comment

I know right! He didn’t deserve that being that he was the most sensible one working that case, besides the doctor. He was so right when he told Nick that Katherine’s ***** had fried his brain. 😂 Unfortunately for Nick he didn’t listen and in Basic Instinct 2, it was implied that Katherine eventually killed him off. 38 minutes ago, aghst said: Yeah 30 years ago they went to places which are unusual. Porn, and now movies and even shows on cable and streaming do not shy away from going there and sometimes leaving little to the imagination when it comes to making the sex look real. Regarding 9 1/2 weeks, I looked it up and it came out in 1986, 6 years prior to Basic Instinct. Though also considered risqué I think for its time, I’m guessing Basic Instinct took it to the next level. Also, Michael Douglas being in the latter may have been why it got more attention than some of the other risqué films that were put out around the same time but may not have starred a well-known Hollywood actor with Douglas’ legacy in the industry. 1 Link to comment

Yeah this along with others like Sliver, Color of Night, Sea of Love, and The Last Seduction were quite popular in the late 80's/early 90s from what I recall. Basic Instinct was all right, been a while since I watched it. Body of Evidence with Madonna that came out around 1992/1993 was sort of the movie of this genre that hit home with me. Was the 1st movie over R rated I remember watching/renting. I thought her looks/voice/and content of the movie made it like the sexiest thing I could possibly conceive of growing up and helped me get through puberty lol. Actually even today I still think that about her and especially that performance. But yeah I imagine today with what's out there that story sounds innocent Link to comment
