tv echo August 19, 2024 Share August 19, 2024 (edited) 'This Is Kingpin': Original Daredevil Series Showrunner Recalls Fighting for Vincent D'Onofrio Casting By Jeremy Dick Aug 18, 2024 https://www.cbr.com/daredevil-casting-vincent-donofrio/ Quote Vincent D'Onofrio in the role of Wilson Fisk is a casting choice that was immediately embraced by Daredevil fans. For Steven S. DeKnight, who served as the showrunner for the first season of Daredevil, he knew from the star that D'Onofrio was perfect for the part, but the fantasy casting almost fell through. * * * "We wanted to make sure the casting was right," DeKnight said. "I had sleepless nights over trying to cast Wilson Fisk, Kingpin, and my feeling was, there was only one person that could do it, and that was Vincent D'Onfrio. And I remember telling [executive producer] Jeph Loeb, I sent him a picture of Vincent with a shaved head on the internet, and I said, 'Come on. There's nobody else that can do this. This is Kingpin.' And Jeph said, 'Yeah, yeah, we love him, but he's way too expensive. He was on Law & Order, he makes like a million dollars an episode. We'll never get him.'" * * * He continued, "But, it turns out, a couple of months later, our casting director, Laray Mayfield, was personal friends with him. And she said, 'Well, let me just check and see if there's any interest.' And it turns out Vincent was a huge Daredevil fan, a huge comic book fan of Daredevil, and he said, 'Yeah, I'd love to do it. Look, we'll work something out on the price.'" * * * "Charlie Cox was Joe Quesada's brain child," he explained. "He had seen him years ago in a movie and said, 'That's Matt Murdock.' And he was right. Charlie came in and just killed it." Raja August 24, 2024 Share August 24, 2024 My first time through the Defenders saga I concluded that season 3 of Daredevil was the finest story run Marvel had. Doing a partial re-watch now as I await Born Again at 13 hours it really dragged in places and I can't see how beyond over excitement anyone binged the 13 hours. But it ended o very well Watching an episode a week wouldn't work either. I think the Andor format where they released the story arcs in packs of three, or two in Daredevil's case might be the best way to watch at least the past Netflix releases. Raja August 26, 2024 Share August 26, 2024 Since they have canonized Netflix they have a lot to clear up in the coming episodes of Born Again. At the end we have Kingpin getting arrested again for multiple murders and all seems good, but by the time of Hawkeye he is out and maybe not as big as a threat but still a gangster. Echo suggest that he was out during the Blip, as was Daredevil but both men had decided on limited but not total war on each other. And I doubt he is still taking 25% from all organized crime Meanwhile Bullseye was being treated with an Iron Fist comics super medal and not the Black Panther super medal. All evidence points to a different super medal from The Eternals coming for the mutant introduction to the MCU. Bullseye is getting a 6 million dollar spine. Perhaps the murder cases fell apart due to witnesses blipping away. But what we have seen of the two from other shows there seems to be a ceasefire in Matt's war. tv echo October 20, 2024 Share October 20, 2024 (edited) Matt Murdock Will Drop an F-Bomb in 'Daredevil: Born Again' According to Charlie Cox [Exclusive] Aidan Kelley Oct 19, 2024 https://collider.com/daredevil-born-again-f-bomb-charlie-cox-exclusive/ Quote While speaking with Collider's own Steve Weintraub at New York Comic Con (where he was also joined by the man behind everyone's favorite Kingpin of crime, Vincent D'Onofrio), Charlie Cox let slip that his beloved superhero character was able to sneak in an F-bomb for "the first time ever". When asked if the swear came in Episode 1, Cox said no, but it's still there, while also teasing that plans for a second season of Daredevil: Born Again are potentially on the table: "It is not, but it was shocking to me. It's almost under my breath, but you can hear it. I was like, 'Oh wow. Great!' Good to know for Season 2." Cox shared the news after his co-star, Vincent D'Onofrio, promised that the new series will be keeping the dark tone of the original show that inspired it: "We're continuing the darkness of the first series on Netflix. It is gonna be that dark and that intense. We worked our butts off to make it that way. So, we're excited about it because of that. As far as I'm concerned, the biggest question that I get asked the most is, is it gonna be dark like the original series? And the answer to that is a definite yes. It is dark. It is crazy. We do some things that are definitely a first for Disney+." Charlie Cox Teases a "Very Long, Very Cool" Fight Scene in 'Daredevil: Born Again' [Exclusive] Aidan Kelley Oct 19, 2024 https://collider.com/daredevil-born-again-charlie-cox-oner-fight-scene-exclusive/ Quote Both of those two aforementioned fights [in Seasons 1 and 2 of the original Daredevil series] are typically referred to as "oners", as their shot (or at least made to look like their shot) in one single unbroken take. As luck would have it, Charlie Cox is something of an expert on the almighty oner, and he shared his knowledge on the topic with Collider's Steve Weintraub at New York Comic Con. In addition, Cox also revealed that fans can expect another elaborate fight sequence in the same style in Daredevil: Born Again: "There are different types of oners. So far, we've done three oners that are memorable. There’s one in Episode 2 of Season 1, which is a true oner. We shot it until we got it perfect, and there are no cuts in that one shot. The camera moves around, films everything, and if anything doesn't work, we do it again. It takes a lot of preparation. You have to dedicate at least a day or two days. There’s something called 'Texas switching,' where, without cutting the camera, me and my stunt double, or Vincent and his stunt double, are switching places so that my stunt double is doing the things that I can't do, and I'm back into the stuff that I can do when the camera's on my face and stuff. But you don't notice it. We did a similar one in Season 3, Episode 4. Season 3 in the prison. There's literally a moment where I'm kicking someone on the floor, and my foot is in camera, someone yanks me out from behind, and the next foot that comes in was Chris’, my stunt double’s foot. It's really fun. The technicality of it is awesome. Anyway, we also did a oner in Season 2, which is not a true oner. So, it plays like a oner, it looks like the camera continues to move, but every now and again, the camera will swipe something that is completely black, like a jacket or a wall or something, and when that happens, you can stitch together the different takes so it plays like a oner. But sometimes you get a little bit more freedom, and you can do slightly cool stuff. So, we have a very long, very cool stitched one in the new season. I'm not gonna say which episode ." tv echo December 4, 2024 Share December 4, 2024 (edited) Wilson Bethel Teases 'Daredevil: Born Again' Five Year Time Jump From the Original Series: "Little Extra Bit of Life in There" By Ryan O'Rourke Dec 3, 2024 https://collider.com/daredevil-born-again-time-jump-explained-wilson-bethel/ Quote According to Bethel, Born Again strongly reflects everything that happened to both the characters and the actors in the time since the Netflix original wrapped. There are a lot of untold stories from those five years in between that will inform how the characters are portrayed and require exploration when things start to unfold in March. Everyone will be starting in a different spot than where they ended Season 3, and Bethel believes that each actor's life experiences in that time will help to make their characters richer than ever. Applying what he's learned from other projects has also made his return to the streets of New York all the more fulfilling. He says: "Yeah, I mean, Charlie sort of alluded to it. But I think one of the things that's interesting is, I mean, maybe it's different on a sitcom or something like that, but if you're on a show for over a period of time and the characters are aging together sort of in real-time, and if the show is well written and the writers are sort of responding to that reality transpiring, the wrinkles of their hair, et cetera, then in theory, the character is evolving in a way, whether or not the show was on air. So there's kind of like this funny thing stepping back after five years where Born Again will pick up with that amount of time having transpired. The show doesn't pick up the day after we last saw it. It picks up five years later. And so in theory, these are characters who have all lived five years of life and all of the twists and turns that you take in the meantime. So whether or not even those stories are necessarily on screen, there's just that little extra bit of life in there, which I think is… as an actor, it gives you an opportunity to bring whatever your own journey has been in that time and they get sort of a little longer in the tooth."
