shapeshifter June 17, 2023 Share June 17, 2023 Deadline says [Friday] October 13. And more from the core of the Apple: Quote PRESS RELEASE: May 31, 2023 Apple TV+ today announced its upcoming limited drama series “Lessons in Chemistry,” starring and executive produced by Academy Award winner Brie Larson (“Captain Marvel,” “Room”), will make its highly anticipated debut with the first two episodes on Friday, October 13, 2023. Based on the bestselling, debut novel of the same name from author, science editor and copywriter Bonnie Garmus, “Lessons in Chemistry,” set in the early 1950s, follows Elizabeth Zott (played by Larson), whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a patriarchal society. When Elizabeth finds herself fired from her lab, she accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives — and the men who are suddenly listening — a lot more than recipes. New episodes will debut weekly on Fridays through November 24, 2023.… https://www.apple.com/tv-pr/news/2023/05/apple-tv-sets-october-13-2023-global-premiere-for-highly-anticipated-drama-lessons-in-chemistry-starring-and-executive-produced-by-academy-award-winner-brie-larson/ And the Amazon "Look Inside" for the source novel looks like a great premise for a show too:https://www.amazon.com/Lessons-Chemistry-Novel-Bonnie-Garmus/dp/038554734X?asin=038554734X&revisionId=&format=4&depth=1 Link to comment
AnimeMania June 17, 2023 Share June 17, 2023 Lessons in Chemistry (8 Episodes) will stream its first two episodes on October 13, 2023 on Apple TV+. The show is based on the best-selling 2022 novel, Lessons In Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. Set in the early 1950s, “Lessons in Chemistry” follows Elizabeth Zott, whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a patriarchal society. When Elizabeth finds herself fired from her lab, she accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives — and the men who are suddenly listening — a lot more than recipes. Zott, a new mother, takes on a role as a television cooking show host while dreaming of making a return to the world of science. Lewis Pullman as Calvin Evans, a decorated scientist Brie Larson as Elizabeth Zott, a brilliant scientist in the 1950s who works as the lab assistant to Calvin. Her career at Hastings Research Institute is derailed because of her sexist colleagues who believe that women belong in the domestic sphere, not the professional one. She finds herself fired from her lab and pregnant, she then takes a job as a host of the TV cooking show "Supper at Six", which gives her a voice in the homes of women — and their husbands — everywhere. tv echo November 26, 2023 Share November 26, 2023 (edited) Warning: contains spoilers for 1x08-Introduction to Chemistry episode... Performer of the Week: Brie Larson BY TEAM TVLINE NOVEMBER 25, 2023 https://tvline.com/lists/brie-larson-lessons-in-chemistry-performance-season-1-episode-8-finale/ Quote THE PERFORMER | Brie Larson THE SHOW | Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry THE EPISODE | “Introduction to Chemistry” (Nov. 22, 2023) THE PERFORMANCE | The Lessons in Chemistry finale birthed a new version of Elizabeth Zott. After a season of grief and struggle, Larson carefully and authentically ushered Elizabeth into her new iteration — reminding us why she is an Academy Award-winning actress. In Episode 8, Elizabeth made a stunning move in securing her own sponsorship for her final show at Supper at Six: Tampax. She announced the importance of the product and explained to male audience members just how menstruation works. In retrospect, the reveal could have felt obvious, but Larson’s execution of the monologue was full of delightful twists — beginning a sentence one way before dryly delivering its conclusion — making us feel like we’ve never even heard about this thing called menstruation before now. Though the scene could very well have inspired a dramatic over-the-top display in lesser actors, Larson made sure her character wasn’t too proud of herself and never oversold it. She mastered the moment with a smug tilt of the head after thanking the “vile” Swift and Crisp brand for dropping the show; with a subtle, wry smile upon revealing a tampon would be their new sponsor; and with just a whisper of comedy by launching right into her closing line, “And with that, let’s discuss glazed ham.” She never stopped to bask in the mic-drop moment she just delivered. We were thrilled to see Elizabeth again, three years later, and Larson’s energy continued to build. In her final scene, she successfully integrated the best parts of Elizabeth’s sterile, science-oriented side with her warmer, Supper at Six side. After a season of depicting the stifling nature of sexism, her character could finally breathe, and Larson executed the end of a believable evolution with a satisfying appreciation for life, love and, of course, abiogenesis. chaifan February 21 Share February 21 This really isn't media related, but I'm not sure where to put it. I'm fascinated by the cubist artwork in Phil's office. Does anyone know if this is "famous" artwork, real not-famous artwork, or something the set designers just made up for the show? I'm sorry I can't include a screen shot - there are 2 pieces in Phil's office. A large painting behind his desk, and a smaller painting on the opposite wall. Both are clear in Episode 5, when Phil has Elizabeth in his office demanding that she make a cocktail on the show. Link to comment
