Both Spencer and Billy are not getting the hero’s welcome they expected from the football team and quickly realize they need to adjust their style and start earning the team’s trust first. Jordan is surprised at who the new football coach at Beverly turns out to be and that his starting quarterback position is threatened when the coach starts shaking things up. Coop and Layla get into an argument over Coop’s tour paycheck, which leads Layla to discover why Patience left the tour early. Meanwhile, Asher is keeping a secret from Olivia that could jeopardize their relationship.

I know they have a lot of filming restrictions so they can't have a big group together (though they seemed to have a bunch for Beverly's scenes), but even after the guy who was angry and other players returned, I was still thinking that South Crenshaw might have to drop to an eight-man league to take the field!  I like the twist of the female coach commanding instant respect while the hometown hero/former NFL player has difficulties.  Spencer shouldn't have told Chris that he didn't side with him as quarterback.  Now they will both probably hate him because Darnell won't listen if he tells him what happened.

If Asher had watched old episodes of Beverly Hills, 90210 (not that there's any reason he would), he could have learned from David Silver's experience that the summer fling you think you will never see again will somehow end up at the same school as you and your girlfriend.  I'm very interested in the timeline of whatever happened between Spencer and Olivia.  If it was before the weekend of Coop's Vegas concert, then maybe Olivia went down to Mexico to try to shake herself of guilt or something, and then Spencer immediately reunited with Layla while avoiding what happened.  I hope they will explain before March 15, because then the show isn't going to be on for at least three weeks.  There could be up to six episodes before then, but that doesn't mean they will reveal anything!

The South Crenshaw player with the bad attitude looked so familiar, I had to look him up. He played the smart kid/piano prodigy on “My Wife and Kids.” Man, I’m old.

Some funny lines in this episode: When Spencer’s mom busted him about Layla staying over, or when Layla told Spencer she could handle Coop then was like, “Wait, how do YOU handle her?”

Spencer doesn’t do many dumb things, but yeah, saying anything to Chris was plain dumb.

My football playing sons told me the football scenes were pretty good this week. The usually laugh at them. I liked the quarterback competition, and I’m glad Jordan won.
