Queen-and-Slim-Jodie-Turner-Smith-Header

Jodie Turner-Smith is in a lead role as elite warrior named Éile, who possesses the voice of a goddess. She left her clan and her place as Queen's guardian to pursue her true passion and become a nomadic musician. However, events transpire on the Continent that force her to take up her blade once again in what has been described as a quest for vengeance and redemption.

The Witcher: Blood Origin was announced in July 2020 as a six-part live-action series helmed by The Witcher writer Declan de Barra. The series will be set 1,200 years prior to the events of the current Netflix series, in the aftermath of the cataclysmic event known, in the novels, as the Conjunction of the Spheres, which briefly merged entirely different worlds together, flooding the Continent with humans, monsters, magic and more.

‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ Casts ‘Vikings’ Actor Laurence O’Fuarain In Leading Role

The Witcher: Blood Origin, Netflix’s prequel to its hit series based on the novels behind the popular videogame franchise, has locked its second leading actor.

Irish actor Laurence O’Fuarain, whose credits include Vikings, Game Of Thrones and Black 47, has landed the role of Fjall. Born into a clan of warriors sworn to protect a King, Fjall carries a deep scar within, the death of a loved one who fell in battle trying to save him. A scar that won’t let him settle, or make peace with himself or the world around him. In his quest for redemption, Fjall will find himself fighting beside the most unlikely of allies as he carves a path of vengeance across a continent in turmoil.

O’Fuarain joins Jodie Turner-Smith in the project. She’s playing Éile, an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess, who has left her clan and position as Queen’s guardian to follow her heart as a nomadic musician.

Set 1,200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin will tell the story of the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal ‘conjunction of the spheres’, when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.

The cast and the crew are starting to arrive in Iceland to begin the preparation for the production process. The 6 episode series will be in full swing sometime in August.

Michelle Yeoh will play Scían, a character who is the very last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves. No one can come close to her artistry with the blade, and no one carries as much loss within their heart. When a chance presents itself to retrieve a stolen sacred sword, taken from her fallen tribe by nefarious means, she launches herself into a deadly quest that will change the outcome of the Continent.

Blood Origin takes place 1,200 years before the events of The Witcher. The six-episode series will chronicle the creation of the first prototype Witcher, as well as the events surrounding the Conjunction of the Spheres, the phenomenon that brought humans into the world of the elves. "We were trying to understand what the world was like for elves right before the Conjunction of the Spheres," says Blood Origin creator, Declan De Barra. "I just was fascinated with the idea of what a pre-colonized world would look like for the elves". That fascinated me to wonder what that world could have been: what society would have been like and what elves wanted. That's what we're going to explore here.

Sophia Brown stars as Éile, a warrior of the Queen's guard who leaves to become a traveling musician. Michelle Yeoh will feature as Scían, the last of a nomadic tribe of sword-elves on a mission to retrieve a blade stolen from her people. Laurence O'Fuarain will also appear as the character Fjall, a man born into a clan of warriors sworn to protect a king but who sets out in need of vengeance after a loved one dies in battle trying to save him.

Rumors suggest that the original 6 episodes have been edited down to 4 episodes. The first and last episodes pretty much remain the same, while the 4 middle episodes have been edited down to two episodes.

Ugh that doesn't sound good.  I don't know of course what was edited, but after watching both Wheel of Time and The Witcher (and latest Marvel Shows too tbh) I think many of them would benefit from having 10 episodes. So hearing that we'll get only four episodes of the spin off makes me feel nervous .

Minnie Driver joined the cast of The Witcher: Blood Origin as Seanchaí : (Shan-a-khee), a shapeshifting collector of old lore with the abilities to travel between time and worlds. Very few of her kind remain. She brings long forgotten stories back to life when a world needs them most.

Seanchaí's will be the show's narrator.

A few other images from the show.

I see more shows (after Discovery and Strange New Worlds) got Iris van Herpen's contact info! The first and the last of Empress Merwyn's gowns are from the Spring 2021 collection and the red gown is from the Spring 2019 collection.
