Alex's "this being a house of gender equality and all" pitch backfiring, with the rest of them getting all excited and wanting to give him a quinceañero party, was funny.  And I liked "I thought you were woke, but you're just broke."

Him feeling unaccomplished compared to the rest of the family was touching, and "I stabbed myself with the needle so many times I needed stitches, but I didn't know how to do them" was a nice bit of humor in the midst of that.

I also liked Elena's freak out - especially "I need Yale to fall in love with me and this is just going to make them file a restraining order" - too, because she briefly did her thing, then said the panic is part of her process, and went back to work.  It wasn't some epic meltdown that paralyzed her and worried her mother like it would be on a lot of shows.

Penelope taking over the curtain was funny.

LYDIA'S CURTAINS DON'T TOUCH!

Dr B saying "Of course I do, I'm a doctor." and leaving when Avery and Schneider asked about the baby's sex killed me.

I really feel for Alex. I'm the white sheep of my family (said so because I come from a Caribbean-Canadian family and thus we're black) and it's still a daily struggle to know I won't live up to my dr brother and dentist sister and I always feel less accomplished than them but hey im the cool one whose not a fucking nerd, so.

Again, not feeling anything for Schneider/Avery because there's been almost no development on-screen. It's just been 'they are dating, Avery tags along with Schneider.' I personally don't care about them together. They are counting on us knowing that Todd and India are married in real life.

I like that Alex wasn't immediately good at his fashion class. He wasn't great at the cello, either.

I like that Penelope supported Alex when he was struggling, especially since she is always wanting her kids to be 'killing it,' because their success makes her look good as a mom.

Poor Lydia, being offended that Alex wanted to learn from someone else. He is growing up.

I love Dr. B. lol

You can ask anyone who knows me, I don't like changes.  I liked Schneider to be the lovable goofball who hung around in Penelope's apartment.  It's not so much that I don't like him and Avery together, but I don't want him to all of a sudden be a man with responsibilities.    Couldn't they just have had him and Avery been dating for a while?  Is she pregnant in real life?  I know that her character on Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist was just written off and if the show is renewed and I don't know if she'll be in the second season.

Aww go for the party of gender equality Alex, it sounds fun! Let your mom get her dance!

I am really glad this season is giving Alex more to do, and I thought his insecurities about not being as high achieving as the rest of his family was really well done. The talk he had with Penelope was sweet, and I quite like that he wasn't good at making clothes after his first class. Its often frustrating, but learning a new skill takes work.

Oh Elena, your so close to cracking that case!

"I can see why she does that, its such a power move!"
