  1. Victor the Crab, that's depressing, but I think you're unfortunately right. And why the hell is gerrymandering legal? I understand that many aspects of politics in this country are terribly broken, but that's one case where I just don't understand how it legally ever saw the light of day. Do other countries with First Past the Post voting systems have the same problem with gerrymandering? (Setting aside the question of whether or not it is even possible for a FPTP system to ever accurately represent what a true majority wants.) Sam's segment didn't do anything for me. I just wanted it to end. Oh, well. I enjoyed Spoon's first song. It was soothing after a stressful day.
  2. Vanity Fair has an excerpt from Aasif's book, No Land's Man (available on November 4th). Here is a nice interview with HuffPost Live today. This is the Daily Show segment that his web series is based on.
  3. Yeah. I'm so glad that Jon seems to have such a contentment about being who he is and doing what he does. What could have given them the idea that he might have taken that job?
  4. Rolling Stone: Jon confirms that NBC offered him Meet The Press.
  5. Oh, I hope he trolls the hell out of Todd about that Meet The Press rumor offer, now confirmed by Jon.
  6. I was tearing up a little, too. That was a beautiful and hilarious segment.
  7. Oh, I hope you're right! I haven't been to that theater before, as it's on the other side of Atlanta, but I'll try to call them. UPDATE: I owe @maculae my firstborn. Thank you! :D This should be fun: Jon had (is having?) an interview with Christiane Amanpour. Also: Gael García Bernal was on The Tonight Show, talking about Rosewater and Jon.
  8. Castro was the one going on about how nice Gohmert is. And how could Jon know the answer to what Castro wishes they had done differently? Maybe something to do with campaigning on success stories rather than joining the attack ad format that Republicans have perfected? Maybe something to do with issues like the Trans-Pacific Partnership or the use of drones? Not everything is about their relationship with Republicans. That the Republicans are dicks is the answer everyone already knows, so why bother with that topic when he has a Democrat on, aside from acknowledging it, as he did?
  9. The show last night was a grand slam for me. Al was excellent, the Koch ad was perfect, the interview was pleasant, and Danny Trejo(!!) was icing on the cake. Since coming to Austin, they've all been so full of energy and an elevated sense of mischief. It's been great fun.
  10. This hashtag has been both hilarious and disturbing. Maybe John will follow-up with a "How Is This Still A Thing?" segment. Stephen has a really nice voice. I can't wait for more of that on CBS.
  11. I'm SO excited for John Cleese! How self-aware is Priebus, and what troll convinced him that this would be relevant to his interests?
  12. He puts those pieces together pretty regularly and rather emphatically; in this interview, he said that Republicans are petulant, chickenshit assholes who are content to fuck over the country if they can't get their way. Asking also if there were something Castro wished the Democrats could have done better is pretty mild criticism, all things considered.
  13. That's good! And... weird? I wonder if they would be like Aasif and Al now, just popping in from time to time?
  14. Only one location in Georgia, and it's apparently already sold out. Why do you have to be a dick about everything, Georgia?
  15. Yeah, I love this conservative notion that Jon is unfair and edits interviews to make his guests look foolish. No, those are the field interviews. If you look foolish when Jon interviews you, then you've done that work all on your own. Instead, he's criticized by some on the left for being too nice, and I think they probably know that, but it's a comfortable, convenient story to keep using. Speaking of red states that are trying to swing blue, this is killing me. It looks like 2014 could be a record turnout, though. C'mon, Georgia!
  16. Ah! Now, it makes sense. Thank you, @purist! I wish TDS would do an entire show in the Twilight Zone mode. That was rather wonderful. (I had no idea Jon used to smoke. That explains his voice.) Here are the extended interviews with Davis and Castro, if anyone is interested.
  17. TBS orders comedy pilot from 'Daily Show' correspondents Jason Jones and Samantha Bee I don't know how to feel about this. They're not my favorites, but they're such veterans of the show, their presence would definitely be missed. It seems like Jason has filmed other pilots before that weren't picked up, but maybe this will finally be his and Sam's big break. I wish them well, but, damn, all of the talent is flying out of that nest. Something is surely in the works for Jessica, too.
  18. But... (Thanks, @Athena and @dcalley. I can't wait for their final episode! I'm sure they're planning something truly amazing.)
  19. @Athena, you have filled me with sadness for the ghosts. :( I will never hear a cross-the-road joke the same way again. Is this the last episode for the year, or is there going to be another one? (I can't recall now where I saw something about their last show being in early November.)
  20. TDS and TCR are having live midterm election coverage on November 4th. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they will be doing it together.
  21. I wish I knew the basic reference(s) for that opening because I feel it would have been even more hilarious. That said, it was pretty fantastic. Poor Jon looked better in that Hazmat suit than as a cowboy. How did they get all of those people? For the MOZ, I was almost expecting a brick joke involving Elijah Wood, Jon's eye, and a pen, but I'm glad that didn't happen. Aasif, welcome back! I'm so glad that he's still on the show(?). I hope we see him every night this week. It's been too long!
  22. I haven't forgotten his pizza indiscretion, but I'll temporarily ignore it for a nice picture with Maziar. Here are some more of Jon. This story was cute: Victor the Crab, that honestly looks really good, but do they make cheese-less deep dish? Or, how could I pick the cheese out? I'm doomed by my lactose intolerance, you see... It's a sad life.
  23. I just watched The Daily Show Rock, from 2002. I laughed, and I cried. And I'm damn glad I did get out to vote, even so.
  24. His interview with Goodall was very much like a Colbert interview, where the two are sort of trolling each other. I kind of wish it had been more insightful and about the content of her work because it's kind of an easy running joke that ape language involves grunting, but, on the other hand, a couple of million people now see how cool she is--and, by extension, how cool primatology and anthropology are. Everyone knows Indiana Jones, but everyone should know Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Birutė Galdikas.
  25. I wasn't feeling the segment on sugar. Oh, well. They can't hit a home run every week. The Jane Goodall interview was cute. For anyone who missed it:
