...which then Steve was assumed to have gone back and undone - resetting the time line again - once they stopped Thanos. But my thing was, if they needed that gizmo they used at the beginning of the ep when they 'reset' Loki's timeline, how was Steve able to do it without that gizmo? There is still a tone of handwavy stuff happening, and I'm not at all confident they care to nail it down. So I suspect it will still just be left as wibbly-wobbly, timey wimey stuff. Which... leaves a lot of possible head canons for a lot of things, both for this series and for prior movie. Eta: Oh, you mean why wasn't it here for Tony to take. Maybe they didn't clip that branch all the way back. Maybe there is still a nub? Like if they reset Loki back to just before he teleported maybe, and had someone stop him? I'm not convinced that the TVA aren't cultivating branches for their own purposes, but just ones that they are controlling so... it's an intriguing question.

I think it was meant to show that they've collected several duplicates from time lines that they've "reset". So like the Tesseract that Loki had, when they reset his time line, it went back to a point where it was still in that time line. But the one Loki had was a duplicate from the branch.

Oooh, I love that idea as a primary motivating factor. Particularly because it highlights how important technology/weapons are in the outcome of conflicts.

Did he, though? 😉 Even in this first ep here, based on the exposition and what they showed, I think the door is open for a lot of new possibilities. And like Kel Varnsen said, the events are already contradicting the exposition so it might be more complicated than what we currently know. It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out.

Exactly... the 'winning' side writing the history. And I'm wondering if Rogue Loki is a Loki from another 'approved' timeline (because I do think the multiverse already exists, but the TVA controls them and keeps that info as 'need to know').

... according to TPTB at the TVA. This feels like an important distinction at this point, that everything the TVA is saying is in support of their own actions. And we don't know yet who they are or what their motivations are. Even them saying they're trying to prevent the 'chaos' of the multiverse is just... something they've said.

My suspicion is that it's what Rogue Loki looks like that they are hiding. I also suspect that Rogue Loki knows something that the TVA wants to keep secret, but that even Mobius doesn't know/realize that yet.

Prime according to who, though? And with what agenda? That's a good point about the Earth logo, I had also noticed that while the All Knowing Timekeepers appeared to not be human, all the TVA minions that we've seen so far seem to be, so this particular facility might be Earth-specific. It also might actually be pretty low on the Corporate food chain.

Yes, though I suspect the decision about which timeline is "prime" will not always be as clear cut as they're showing it here with the (presumably) rogue Loki on the loose.

silverstream: Hopefully they'll be more explicit in their explanations, but it seem that once a branch occurs, the original timeline continues and the branch... branches off. So at the point of branching you now have two timelines with duplicates of everything. Then as both timeline continue, they will diverge from each other and become unique. So when they 'snip the branch', everyone in that branched timeline ceases to exist.

I love force-sensitive Finn! And that has been my headcanon since Kylo first seemed to sense him in that first stormtrooper battle, but they really dropped the ball on using/showing it. I was glad that they implied it as strongly as they did, but it was something that could have been used to amazing storytelling effect, but it just really wasn't. I understand why they went back to Tatooine for the ending, (though I agree with some comments I've seen that it was a weird choice given the planet's relationship, or lack thereof, to the various Skywalkers), but I would have loved to have seen Finn and Poe lounging near a ship in the distance, waiting for Rey to finish her goodbyes to Luke and Leia, and then seeing her walking back towards them... That would be awesome!!!

Saw it on Friday. LOOOOOVED it. Haven't laughed in a movie that much in awhile. Had a good crowd though, so maybe that helps. Everyone actually clapped when the credits started to roll.

Good idea!! This has the perfect vibe for a matinee!!! I also get the feeling Ransom is going to be plagued by dogs periodically through the entire movie. Which tickles me to no end.

OMG that's perfect. I love it. And I'd love for CE to get critical recognition for this too, and he's definitely been mentioned (along with Craig, De Armas, Collette, & Plummer) in a lot of the reaction posts that I've seen.

It definitely has!! The landscape for how fans interact with entertainment properties is much wider now, and they definitely have a multi-pronged approach for all things Star Wars. But one of the great things with the current technology, is that each fan now has the ability to curate their own experience. To get as little or as much immersion as they want. I love that!!

I don't recall either CE or HA ever confusing Sharon's character with EVC, though. And there were plenty of valid reasons to be squicked by how Sharon and Steve's relationship was portrayed on screen, but that's on the creators that chose that route for the characters. 'Shipping' isn't why fans are inappropriate or mean to an actor/actress, it's just the excuse. But because 'shipping' gets the easy blame, we never address the real issues, which often come down to misogyny, homophobia, hetero-normative bias... etc. eta: There's also a HUGE difference between explaining why you find something (popular or not) problematic, and specifically telling someone they're wrong for liking/disliking something, or dismissing/belittling their reasoning either way. And that fundamental misunderstanding of what helps foster effective discussion/communication is found everywhere, not just 'shipping wars'.

Eh, shipping wars are just part of the symptoms, they aren't a cause. And I guess I feel like the idea that the moral universe bends towards justice is a myth, I think it bend towards apathy and it's why we keep repeating the same patterns through the decades. No one seems to realize there is no finish line, you always have to stay vigilant and keep fighting injustice, because there will always be selfish assholes trying to cause someone pain (which is another reason the ending they chose for Steve's character, of all characters... burrrrnnnnns so fucking much). Fandom is the best of us and also the worst of us, and I think it always has been. The only thing that changes is the technology.

There was a lot of valid reason for dissing Sharon and Steve as a romantic couple, but Emily definitely did not (and does not) deserve to be treated like she was. I actually loved her character in WS, it was the PTB's story decisions in CW that were poorly done.
