  1. Did they get away with the sexual harassment skit because women were playing the male roles?  I really was surprised a Benny Hill-like skit was approved for 2023.

I'm glad Quinta got the chance to show everyone that she has more to offer than her Abbott Elementary character.

I hope that they don't change Thor too much though.  I like his accent and enjoy hearing him talk about "landships" and such!

Oh, no, I don't think they'll have Thor change.  I've seen a lot of people wonder on the forums (and Facebook), why there's such a difference between Sass and Thor's language acquisition.   I think Pete's comments in last night's episode are the writers winking at us.

  3. The change to all Beyond Salem all the time isn’t enjoyable in my household. So many things are just pointless.  Where were Marlena, Kate, and Kayla when they were chatting with Nick in faux heaven/purgatory?  How did they have a mutual hallucination?  Was it explained, and I just wasn’t paying attention?  How did Kayla project herself to her living room for a chat with Steve?  Yikes.  How is Kate communicating with Roman through an urn that doesn’t even contain her ashes?

One of the oddest things today was the sudden stormy weather in Salem.  Since when has the weather or season ever played a role in this show?  Did they suddenly get access to a wind machine or was an intern under the shrubbery shaking them?

It’s like we’re suddenly watching a completely different show that doesn’t make sense and isn’t very interesting.

  4. DEL90 , in the episode thread, mentioned how a suicidal Nate would break Ted.  Would it, though?  Could that be the conclusion to Ted and Nate’s character arcs?  We know Ted is haunted by his dad’s death.  What if he is able to help Nate?  Maybe that’s why Dr. Sharon is still a phone call away.

I think that would be a sad way to redeem Nate, but who knows what the writers are thinking?

While I 100% believe Nate will crash and burn, I really hope he doesn’t become suicidal because that would cause Ted to truly break down.

DEL901, could you have just stumbled on a story arc that would bring Ted and Nate’s stories full circle?  I was starting to speculate, but maybe i shouldn’t in an episode thread.

I think my perfect job would be to be a "Continuity Expert" on films and TV shows.  Even in the best scenes (which this was not) I am incapable of focusing if continuity is off.  Phoebe's headband was on her forehead in the straight on shots and up where it belongs in the side angles.  It was driving me nuts and my darling husband KNEW it...he sat beside me giggling as I sighed/cringed at each and every flip of the camera angle.  That was eye twitchingly bad. 😖

That was such a strange, annoying choice.  Was it continuity or some subtle hint from the director telling us the Roy/Keely break-up is messed up?

Nate already has a potential rival in Coach Disco.  What could that name symbolize, I wonder?

  7. The last 15 minutes were the strongest, I thought.  It seemed like there was a lot of extra talk...not really exposition...more like the writers were trying to reintroduce everyone in case we haven't been re-watching seasons 1 and 2 in impatient anticipation.

Phoebe and Henry have really grown up during the long off season.

I wonder what happened to Rebecca to make her back track a bit with Rupert.

Speaking of Rupert, could the evil empire references be more obvious?

I loved Ted's response to Nate's meanness.  It's the Lasso way after all.

  8. On a completely different note, I like that Nigel and Nancy seem to be friends.  Nigel does have a certain Frasier/Niles-like fussiness, but he invited Nancy to his tea, and seemingly spends time with her.  I think that's an interesting layer to his character.  Hetty calls her a creature and barely acknowledges her; Nigel's accent and military position suggest he's from an upper class background, yet he spends time with a basement ghost.  Maybe spending centuries in the shed gave Nigel some humility.

I also realize the writers had to reveal the Hetty/Trevor liaison to character(s) who were easier to manipulate than the core ghosts and that may have been why Nancy and Nigel were together.

I think Amber loving the purse Janine hated was a sign that Maurice and Amber would be endgame.  Interesting to see it referenced here again (Erica hinting she'd like it for her birthday, since Janine hates it)

I think Janine was just clueless about how "on trend" those Teflar bags are right now.  I don't think she hated the bag, but she didn't get its hype because she values things like Lego bouquets.  I mean, even I knew Teflar bags are hot stuff, and I'm a retired English teacher.

Jacob's kids were awesome.  I liked how they teased him about the socks without making fun of him.  I think it shows the students respect him, even though he disappointed them for a bit.

  10. The way Marlena was shrugging off the possibility of going to hell made it seem like she was moving into an unpleasant rental rather than going to everlasting damnation.

DaphneCat, you're absolutely right.  There's no tension.  It's almost as if actors are signaling their disdain for the storyline through their "acting" choices.  The only one who committed to his character was Bill Hayes.

Everything is just so silly, including the purgatory and hell sets, which are just embarrassing.

  11. I wonder if the writers (or maybe the directors) are not all on the same page regarding Ava's character growth.   It would have been in character for Ava to nervously hurry the kids out of the building and then spend the rest of the day taking a spa day once the kids were safe.

Maybe Janelle James wasn't available for some reason during filming of this episode, and they had to write Ava out of most of the show.

I think the inconsistency is the thing that doesn't work (for me at least).

  12. Yah, Patti, using Jane Austen as the weapon to defeat the champion!

I will say Jake seemed to be really nice to his fellow competitors at commercial breaks.  He turned towards Patti with a big smile and started chatting with her.  Of course, that could have been his plan to dominate the competition.  ;)
