that's a small overstatement. she's one of a large number of executive producers. she's not the person primarily in charge of the show, but she does have a big voice. so she could probably veto anything she really didn't like and they can't really make the show without her, but it's not all about her either.

They'd be happy to have Johnny back and would find some way to work David into the show if he wanted to be there, but they "can't drag him out of the woods of Tennessee" where he's busy with his wife and kids.

Even back in the 80s parents sometimes freaked out about children singing songs that have potential adult implications (even though the kids usually don't get it and aren't bothered by it). There was a TV show that had little kids dressing up like popstars and crooning the tunes, to the kids it was just playing dressup and they were having a great time, but adults had meltdowns. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minipops It's not quite the same as it is today but people often get upset about things when it comes to kids.

Plenty of vegans have nothing against pets, the anti-pet crusaders are a weird minority afaik. Keeping chickens and taking decent care of them isn't necessarily a problem. Obviously you can't eat the eggs yourself and call yourself vegan but many vegetarians would consider those ethical eggs.

Considering she destroyed a funeral home in favor of modern white, the Darlene that would have liked a weird job is long forgotten.
