Regarding the culture shock thing:  so I’m no longer allowed to talk about a peeve I have with older (immigrant) family members who don’t respect my boundaries or how my idea of boundaries don’t fit someone whose family has been been here for generations because it’s not appropriate?  Or that I’m too “colonized” to want to set boundaries?  All of this gives me a headache.  Wait, am I even allowed to say that?

    Who says?

Quoting myself to say I found the same items on Amazon.  They might still be scammy, but I somehow feel better (-ish) about purchasing from Amazon.  I can at least use an Amazon gift card and not hand out my credit card information to some random website.

Speaking of Amazon, I've been looking there for slip ons. I take a 5W. I can't find any anywhere.

Wow, @Cloud9Shopper, this post seems to indicate you gained a lot of insight and growth from your (Lenten?) break from Reddit.

    Very inspiring!

Now I just need to decide which online addiction I'm going to tank for a while, LOL. NY Times crossword? Wordle? PrimeTimer? Jeopardy!? Google????

Or maybe TV instead of the Web?

    🤔

Not Prime Timer! We would be so sad. 😥

That’s my schedule also. I set the sleep timer on the TV when I’m watching Friends on Nick when I’m in bed reading since I know I’m going to fall asleep and don’t need to try to stay awake since I can practically recite the dialogue! I know what’s going to happen! 😆

    Me too! 😏

He wore that raincoat even though it almost never rained. The raincoat was so much a part of  his character that I never really thought about it til now.

From what I've read, it was just some manky old coat Falk happened to own and he thought it would work for the character.

I like the TBS episodes over the Nick episodes since TBS doesn’t skip any episodes and they show the “kicker” scene over the end credits…

We can only watch it on TBS in the morning/early afternoon. At night we can watch in on Nick but they've replaced the first hour with the detestable Young Sheldon. Apologies if  you like that show but I do not.

Do you mean specific to this site?  They've changed something recently (as of a few weeks ago, maybe); my ad blocker is now blocking hundreds of elements on individual pages within threads (e.g. 430 on this page!!) when it used to be dozens at most, and ads are now occasionally slipping through, so I have to use the "Block Element" option to get rid of them.  The more I do that, the less frequently anything slips through, and - knock on wood - it has been a few days since I've had one.

I have Ad Bocker+ on my Chromebook and I'm not seeing any ads. I am on my phone though.

Thanks, all 🤗.  If I keep it away from hot water, it's a bit better. So, tomorrow maybe a shower won't be so bad. No blisters, no blood. Just a mega oweeee. The air was purple/black/firey red in the kitchen after that mishap!!

If you're able to take Ibuprofin, I'd take a couple of those as well. Plus frozen peas make a good ice pack.

If you still have cable, COZI and Hallmark Mysteries and Movies show all of the seasons/episodes.  There are several episodes of the reboot that I really enjoy: the college one, the one with Tyne Daly, the Dabney Coleman one, etc.  Obviously I don't know the titles... There are also some reboots that are, quite frankly, terrible.

    It's also on ABC Family.

I’m finally leaving the house, and I think I’m going to switch back to watching funny things. I really need a mood-boost.  I also might finally start the Discworld series of books.

we have the eclipse happening in a couple of weeks.  We’re in the path of totality, and we’re getting warnings to get anything important in, before crowds arrive, and clog up traffic.  I had thought about going to the local state park, if dad was home, but it sounds like it’s going to be bad, so I’ll be in the back garden, if I can find some eclipse glasses.  A local ice cream place is giving them away with a specific ice cream.

My birthday is the following weekend, and dad’s is the weekend after that. I already have cream cheese to make a small cheesecake for mine, and a chocolate cake mix for dad’s, but I might try another one from scratch. I’m terrible at decorating them, even though I used to be an artist.  I didn’t get that particular talent that several aunts and my sister had/have.

there’s a Monty python sketch that pops into my head, whenever I say “and nothin else” or when it comes out of someone else’s mouth. I can’t post links anymore, for some reason (it isn’t the site, it’s happening almost everywhere in the past week).

I love the idea of having a back garden. It sounds so private and enchanting.

I also voted for separate.  As others have noted, both are more or less the most active threads on the board!

I voted to keep them separate as well. I'd also like to see a separate topic for Gizmos, Gadgets and Devices. I've see a few good discussions derailed by problems with electronic beasties. YMMV.

I've basically been procrastinating.  I really should be doing laundry but I'm watching YouTubes, puttering in the kitchen, making shopping lists, watching backed up episodes of cooking shows, setting the DVR to record movies on TCM, reading this board, adding stuff to my Amazon watch list, you name it.  The weather here is rainy and yucky too.  Tonight it's supposed to rain buckets.  Just what we need after the rainiest season ever up here.

It's raining today after a gorgeous week. I watched Bugs Bunny and Friends and had leftover Chinese food for breakfast. Now I'm doing a little laundry and I'll work on dinner later. I've been watching a lot of old timey westerns on METV.

Usually municipal water is much better controlled than bottled water. So, yes, just refill. It will be cheaper too. Although I remember Toronto water being not all that tasty. At least in the neighborhoods I lived. Still, it was better than the water in Ottawa. That was nasty.

He'll still get all the microplastics from the bottle if that's what he wants.

We just use a Britta pitcher.

My peeve today is that I went to the post office to mail something overnight. So I selected the correct envelope and form to fill it out. Then I went to the desk and she asked if I wanted to pay for overnight. Duh, that’s what stuff I selected. She then said I had a choice of delivery Saturday or Monday. (This was going to a government agency) I politely asked why it wasn’t able to get there tomorrow. Again she stated my choices and that if I chose Saturday the envelope would not fit in their PO Box. (She was unwilling to answer the question) So basically I had to pay for overnight to get it delivered on Monday. I was there well before noon and wish I had chosen Priority…which who knows if it would have arrived at the same time. 😡

Ah yes "business days" the rest of the days of the week do not count.

Yes, they eat other bugs.  I allow the spiders who hang out on my bathroom ceiling to continue hanging out on my bathroom ceiling.  Now if one is hanging out a bit lower in the shower/tub when I need to use it, then it's a different story.

I just grab the middle of the strand of web and move them to a more convenient spot. I like them.

Maybe the mom will get lucky and the baby girl will identify as a boy.

Let's go back to the days before people were able to find out the genitals of their babies before the babies are born.  Let the genders of all the babies be a surprise!

We never wanted to know our son's gender. When people would ask my DH what he wanted he always answered "A pony!"

Oh, I am not judging you at all, I promise! People do what they can with stray cats that just become part of a family even if they can't come indoors for any number of reasons -- and those people most definitely deserve credit for that. I have seen people do so many things from simply providing food to trapping and neutering, building hideouts of Rubbermaid containers, or clearing space in (or even buying!) a shed for the cats. The scenario I was mainly thinking of was adopting a cat and then consciously deciding to let it be an indoor/outdoor cat.

As for all the unlocked door stories, though, I am not especially afraid of people coming inside -- my Dateline comment was just because that's what they all say, haha! But regardless of how safe someone feels or I feel or what kind of neighborhood it is, my original issue was just that you should assume that you should fully shut someone's door when you walk into their home -- especially if it was shut before you walked through it!

I would never let any of my beloved cats out now and we only get them from no-kill shelters these days. But we would take in any cat that came to our door in those days, at one point we had seven. They came and went as they pleased and they didn't care much what we had to say about it. But as I say, we only take in cats that have been in foster homes now and they show no interest in going out, thank Bast.

I am just not a person who can have an outdoor cat, whether it's full time or part time. ANY time outside means that it is always exponentially more possible that you will never see your cat again. I want to cry even just thinking about it.

We both grew up that way. We haven't done that with several sets of cats now but in our defense, all of our cats back then were strays and I seriously doubt we could have kept them in.

I have, on more than one occasion, been the open-door offender in my own house! It had brought in groceries -- usually way too much to carry in one trip (I don't know why I do this) -- and I let the door close behind me, with the intention of untangling myself from the grocery bags and then giving the door the final nudge and locking it. But something distracted me -- phone, hairball, grocery mess, needing to pee -- and i didn't do it. What I did do, however, was go upstairs and take a shower.

We also have a door that, if left unlatched, will "pop open" if the main door downstairs opens. Luckily, my cats almost 100% of the time come hang out in the bathroom upstairs when I take a shower.  But even so, the "what if?" plagued me all night afterward.

When we were young and my husband was still in the band, we had people coming and going all the time. Not only was our front door wide open but so was our back door and all of our windows in the summer time. We were stupid enough back then to have indoor/outdoor cats and they came and went as they pleased. Times change.
