I got a gift card from Dunkin' Donuts from someone for Christmas.  So every now and then I go to the Dunkin Donuts the next town over to use it for coffee.

It never fails whenever I go there there is a group of the same older guys there always hanging out, crowding around, and talking loudly.  I mean there is inherently nothing wrong with that at all.  But I mean eavesdropping on their conversations the stuff they go on about is really more appropriate for a bar not the neighborhood Dunkin Donuts.  They go on and on about sports and the local scoop if you will.

They are off putting and annoying enough to me I think I will avoid that place for a while.

You'd think that if the franchisee had any business sense, they would sternly discourage any kind of behavior that could make customers feel uncomfortable or hassled. I know I would kick their asses out. No loss of their measly one donut and coffee.

As long as they’re making money through social media, I don’t think they’re living that traditional lifestyle. And I’m right there with you, with your question.

My peeve: I’m trying to fix my sleep schedule, and it isn’t working.  I’ve barely slept, and I’m getting nothing done.

I hope they're making money of some kind because when hubby decides she's reached her expiration date, usually some time before hitting 30 and kicks her to the curb to marry someone younger and more subservient, she better have something to fall back on.

I have to turn away from Denny's commercials and flip over any diner placemats with images of omelets. Breakfast burritos are particularly upsetting.

I like eggs but the Arby's commercials with globs of meat turn my stomach.

If they want to make sure their faces aren’t displayed, it’s fine. It’s not like they’re making them wear Halloween masks and veils every time they’re out in public.

They could always jam a pillow case down on their heads.

Saying "I want to be a wife" instead of "I want to be married." I don't mind saying you want to be a wife now and then, but when it's always said rather than wanting to be married, it sounds like you're more interested in a title than the actual marriage to me.

I never could get the whole "My wedding is the pinnacle of my life and has to be perfect in every tiny detail" deal. Shit, it's ONE day out of the thousands of days you will live. When we got married, I was much more interested in the marriage rather than the wedding.

@partofme, that earthquake was wide ranging! We felt it very strongly here on Long Island. My son, 120 miles north of me, felt it too. Some say it was felt as far north as Boston. According to the news, the magnitude ranged from 4.7 to 5.5. I hope there were no fatalities.

I have friends in Conn. and they are saying it was pretty strong there too.

Maybe you need to buy (or make) them a birdhouse!

I have a magnolia tree and after it blooms it has these little brown cup shaped end bits left. The hummingbirds like to nest in these tiny cups and they use moss and spider webs to plush it up. I love the idea of using delicate spider webs as construction material. It makes the tiny things seem like fairies.

So did I .. many of those things.  Since my two spine surgeries, my mobility issues stop me from doing many things I enjoy, unfortunately.  Just getting out of bed in the morning is painful.

Yes, I have trouble getting up. It Hurts!

This cat has been hanging around our house for the past month. It's been under the porch, and we've been feeding her. I'm pretty sure it's a girl. She's been coming around to us more and looks pretty fat lol. So we may get kittens at some point. We'll see how that goes.

She was rubbing up on our chihuahua Otis when I let him out earlier. So she's coming around. I keep telling her to let me love her! Lol

    Snapchat-2013186644~2.jpg

99% sure she's a girl. She's a dilute tortie and torties are almost always female. She's a beauty!

If you are still reasonably mobile and in decent health, this is your time to "give back"! And it will be more fulfilling than you can imagine! Go volunteer at a local food bank/pantry (either to stock the shelves or fill bags), go volunteer to tutor local kids that can't afford private tutoring (contact your local elementary for more info), go to your local library and sign up to read to kids or help kids read or do homework after school, go to your local animal shelter and walk the dogs or hang out with the cats to keep them socialized, and definitely not least, go to your local care home and adopt someone who never gets any visitors and show up regularly to just hold their hand and listen...or read to them if they prefer...the opportunities are endless.

That's what I did after I retired but before my mobility issues got so bad.

Perry Mason apparently is becoming real popular, especially with my cable service and three networks that will carry this show. We all know that MeTV carries it twice, once in the morning and once at night, and the JUSTICE channel shows 4 consecutive episodes than repeats them late night. Now the GFAM channel will carry Perry Mason starting April 1st at around 2 pm

We have it starting at noon on GFAM. I'm really happy about it. I'd much rather watch Perry, even it I've seen it a million times than MSW. Something about dragging eighties fashions into the nineties bugs the crap out of me.

I'm not on Reddit and don't plan to join, but I have discovered two new youtubers who frequently do videos about posts in some subreddit called "am I the asshole?". My God, it is so addictive. I generally don't like getting into other people's business, but since these people ask for opinions on their situations, I don't feel bad to analyse it. I have already learned I have some strong opinions I was not aware of on some topics 😄. It's pretty time-consuming to watch and then read all of the comments though, so I can't make a habit of this.

Reddit has just had another format change. My lord, it's a mess. Anyway, I'm not seeing AITA anymore.

My go-to side dish year-round, but so good this time of year - asparagus with a little olive oil sprayed on it and sprinkled with Florida Seasoned Pepper, then roasted in the oven. Yum!

I love asparagus in the spring! Yesterday I made an asparagus and gouda quiche. So fresh and comforting.

I don't eat eggs (well, egg whites for me, as I hate yolks) all that often, since my first meal of the day is early afternoon so I usually go for leftovers or a lunch food (salad, soup, or wrap), but when I do make an egg white scramble or fried egg whites, I always have them with bacon or some sort of sausage, so I just use some of the fat from that.  I even keep a little thing of bacon fat in the refrigerator for when I'm using a chicken sausage that doesn't give me any/enough fat to use to fry an egg.  I don't dislike eggs made with butter or oil, but, especially for just a plain ol' friend egg white, I want it with sausage fat instead.

Fried egg whites are the only thing to which I add salt at the table.  I may use salt while cooking things (but season more with pepper, other spices, and fresh herbs), but to sit down and sprinkle salt on top of what I've made, that only happens with fried eggs.  Oh, and popcorn, as mentioned upthread, unless I happen to have some salted butter to use instead of my usual unsalted.

So, thanks to this discussion, I just had bacon and fried egg whites for lunch.

I eat a late breakfast as well. I will have leftover pizza, spaghetti, tacos, what ever. I don't see where it's written that we have to have eggs, cereal or any of the other "breakfast" foods. I love pancakes for dinner.

I never change the salt in any recipe when I’m baking. It’s not about taste…it’s science! I know I should cut back on the processed foods. The salt is ridiculous!

I used to use Lawry's spaghetti sauce mix, my mom used it all my life, as did my husband's dad. Then I read the ingredients. Yikes! I found a great recipe online for a simple spaghetti sauce and never looked back. It has no salt or sugar in it at all. I had to tell my husband when he was on his second serving of lasagna that it was scratch sauce., not the Lawry's. He said it was great.

Great. I don't use a lot of sall as well. I fry eggs without adding it. Add a little when cook smth. I prefer undersalted meals, and I buy burgers cause  mea is too salty for me.

I never salt eggs. Unless we buy unsalted butter, there is plenty of salt in regular butter. I use a lot of herbs and yes, cheese. I get plenty of salt without adding any. One exception - popcorn. How are you gonna eat popcorn without salt? Fortunately, I don't eat it very often.

Season 4 is on Charge this week

Gone is an interesting episode, it’s complex but a good plot about the former chess grandmaster who had become paranoid and was trying to get money from his family - it was just coincidence that the woman had the travel brochure from the hotel he stayed at and that’s why he killed her, they had no connection and he had just descended into complete paranoia. Interesting plot and I liked how Goren/Eames got to the bottom of it and I liked their final confrontation with the killer.

Collective was next and I love the scene where Goren plays with the toy weapon in the toy shop, that was absolutely hilarious, one of my favorite Goren moments. The rest of the episode is strange, about the vampire club, the story about the con artist woman who caused the original killing by the cops was interesting, but then it became about her murder and the weird vampire obsessed people and it just didn’t click for me.

Tonight 4 good episodes will air on Charge - starts with Death Roe with monstrous chef Tommy - that’s a classic, and then Ex Stasis, Shibboleth and The Good Child - all strong episodes. Season 4 may be the best CI season.

Season 4 is a great season but I think it's also the darkest. I won't ever watch Magnificat again.

I'm not quite sure what kind of peeve this would fall under, but it's driving me absolutely nuts. Over the weekend, I was scrolling through Netflix and saw Beverly Hills Cop (March 31 was the last day to watch before it was dropped); still hilarious as ever. So I thought I'd watch the sequel, which is on Paramount+.

Here comes the peeve: for some technical glitchy reason, there is audio commentary that describes each scene and what the characters are doing before we hear them speak. For example, when the movie launches with the rocky mountains and stars? Automated voice is telling the audience this is the Paramount logo and stars.

After texting with them, I was informed it is an ongoing issue and they are "soooo sorry for the inconvenience" and that I will get an email once it's resolved.

    Yeesh.

I was tempted to say I would like a credit to my account charges until this issue is resolved since I am unable to watch and enjoy whatever movies/shows I wanted to watch.

We had that issue too. Not only did some channels have the weird ass descriptions but some channels were only in Spanish. They had to come out and fix it and the guy gave us this whole hard sell on all these upgrades that he said we simply could not live without. PPV being his pet hobby.

Bless you for trying to see a potentially positive motive in this.  Even if so I still think the woman should have taken her aside rather than blurting it out like that where others could hear.

I've had something similar happen, although discreetly.  When I was going through perimenopause and gained a little weight I went to my FIL's birthday party at a restaurant where the wife of one of my husband's cousins (who was a nurse) took me aside and told me she was concerned about the swelling in my lower legs and feet because it could mean heart disease, etc.  I know she had the best of intentions but it scared me so much I went to the doctor, who sent me for several tests for all kinds of things including venous issues or lymphedema, but turned up nothing.  When I subsequently went on Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig and lost 25 lbs. to get back to my normal weight the swelling disappeared.

Of course that was then.  I was able to keep my weight down for over a decade with diet and exercise but after menopause despite dieting and exercise the weight came back and so has the swelling.  Even my recent weight loss was not enough to get rid of that again and forget losing any more (thanks to medical issues I've discussed in the medical thread).  But over the years I have had many nurses, doctors, and concerned strangers tell me it's everything under the sun.  So as a result I never wear skirts or any pants that show my ankles anymore.  I'm tired of it, not to mention fearing that people will make fun of the woman with the "cankles"!

I've pretty much given up salt. It helps.

It’s chocolate egg day for me, because I’m not religious.  I grew up with it being like Christmas Day with Easter eggs.  Big chocolate ones, with more in the middle.

dad got me a chocolate egg that looks like it won’t taste very nice,  but I appreciate him getting it for me.  I also have chocolate orange buttons, and individual caramellos from the world market.

Ugh, I had a bf in high school whose mom was a major vegetarian. She got me a carob bunny. I thanked her profusely but truly, the thing was inedible.

Regarding the culture shock thing:  so I’m no longer allowed to talk about a peeve I have with older (immigrant) family members who don’t respect my boundaries or how my idea of boundaries don’t fit someone whose family has been been here for generations because it’s not appropriate?  Or that I’m too “colonized” to want to set boundaries?  All of this gives me a headache.  Wait, am I even allowed to say that?

    Who says?
