  1. I think it's obvious Ron was getting burnt out. I think he was headwriter here longer than he was at OLTL, no?

Anyone with a sense of true self-preservation though would have known he had to get rid of Franco though.

I just meant, we won't be seeing Phantom of the Opera type crap for him. Maybe he'll pop up once in a while to be "funny", but that's it.

I want to say Ron began in 2007.  Asa's death, the 10,000th episode, was his first story as head writer, so he was with OLTL four years plus and GH only 3 and a half.

  2. Just found this on twitter, not sure how true it is

(Hope I did this right, I have trouble when posting from my phone...)

This may bee from the same source:

BREAKING NEWS!! Carlivati has been let go from GH. Announcement should be coming in the next few days.

We have been speculating on it for the last few days how quiet Ronnie's been, especially in light of the TG interview.  And seeing as to how bad the ratings got for that stretch there, it would not surprise me.

  3. Which reminds me - and I recognize that I'm the only one who cares about this any more - are Lorenzo Alcazar and Tomas Delgado THE SAME PERSON? WHAT WAS UP WITH THAT WHOLE THING.

Plus, Blair, Tea, and Skye on a global road-trip adventure to figure that shit out? I'd watch that show.

I don't know if they were the same person, but I get a feeling Ron was going to make it happen, just because it would have been the most convoluted story.  Also cause it would have made the whole thing a quad with Todd/Blair/Lorenzo(Tomas?)/Carly and we all know how much Ron loves his soap geometry.  (Even though, as it has been often said here, Todd/Carly made ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE!)

And, oh yes, sign me up for the bitchfest that would have been the Blair/Tea/Skye globe-trotting!  It would have been thousand times better then getting stuck in the place in THAT we were left.

  4. Wasn't there another reverend at St. James' in the end, the one that was supposed to marry Natalie and Brody and ended up marrying Tina and Cord?  Or was he just filling in because Andrew was away at the moment?

  5. I'm amazed she is still alive.

(One of the last times I said that they killed Ford on OLTL the following week with a chandelier, so you know, fingers crossed.)

Keep them crossed because there was a drop that said supposedly,

she would be killed off after catching Morgan and Ava in bed together...again.

  6. Actually it was Leo who could not stand Lord John. When Jed suggested him initially Leo fought it and said he could be found in the psychological ward.

  7. So, I'm just going to put this out here.  Speaking as a former, diehard Liason fan who actually loved the whole story of how Jake actually was conceived (yes, I was that bad #sorrynotsorry) and horrified that they killed the kid just so JaSam could have their miracle child (when a replay of the whole AJ/Jason dynamic could have played on for YEARS #fuckingGuza), the fact that they are even bringing the kid back to life and in such a shitty manner (not that I would expect any better from this shithead #YesGuzawasbetter) has me calling the moving company to bring my things to the Barge permanently.

I'm sorry, I can buy back from the dead when you are rolled off a pier.  But THE KID'S ORGANS WERE DONATED, FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!!

  8. Considering where they took the story on GH, I'm glad FrankenRon never got to touch the two Todd again. That said, I do remember thinking that Duke being hidden away at the clinic in Switzerland was going to be McBain thinking he saw Victor (or wig-on-a-stick Victor) instead and maybe having him re-assess his belief that Todd killed his brother.

  9. Shouldn't Frank Smith be about 100 yrs old?

Been ages since I've watched this show. Back when Molly's sister was being abused by her boyfriend. Oh, and I see Sonny and  Carly are a couple again. Nuts.

As someone pointed out, Ron was at least on staff when they brought back from the dead 500 year old Victor Lord Sr.  So once more, Ron's grabbing old scripts and crossing out the names of past characters.

  10. I just rewatched the first episode from the 70's production and they do succeed, at least, in making Elizabeth more sympathetic.  I was reminded of my immediate dislike of her from back then.  Now, it's more, she's the one looking for Ross to return to talk things through, whereas he went to her originally and begged and schemed to get her back as she continually rebuffed him.

  11. I just watched the first episode of the new Poldark series, and I'm getting such a Laurel vibe from Elizabeth.  Maybe not as much as I would have got from the original series where Elizabeth was much more of a cold fish, but there is that feeling.

A difference being is that Elizabeth was never intended to be endgame.

This Elizabeth is fairly noble, at least as far as I can tell from the first episode.  The Elizabeth from the original production in the seventies...yeah, the Laurel analogy works.  And, thinking about it, the Felicity/Demelza comparison can be seen.

This is the series I've been waiting for this sumnmer!  So happy it's finally here.

  12.

And I actually haven't seen any of Marland's stuff, but I just have this crazy feeling he was a better writer than Ron.

I've never personally seen anything of Marland's but from reading his Rules, he was 1000x the writer Ronnie Boy is or ever will be.

And they are (with my comment in the parentheses):

How Not To Wreck A Show

    * Watch the show. (I don't care if he swore on the Bible, Ron has never shown has ever watched General Hospital beyond the LnL glory days.)

    * Learn the history of the show. You would be surprised at the ideas that you can get from the back story of your characters.(Haaaa!  Yeah, GH history.  Ron doesn't care about it, even if HE wrote it!)

    * Read the fan mail. The very characters that are not thrilling to you may be the audience's favorites.(-Oh, who cares about Monica/Tracy/ Robin/Patrick et al when you have the likes of Franco/Nina/Nate/Dr. O?- XO Ron)

    * Be objective. When I came in to ATWT, the first thing I said was, what is pleasing the audience? You have to put your own personal likes and dislikes aside and develop the characters that the audience wants to see.(-But the audience's favorites are the SAME as my favorites! XOXO Ron)

    * Talk to everyone; writers and actors especially. There may be something in a character's history that will work beautifully for you, and who would know better than the actor who has been playing the role?(See the last few above.)

    * Don't change a core character. You can certainly give them edges they didn't have before, or give them a logical reason to change their behavior. But when the audience says, "He would never do that," then you have failed.(Oh, like turning Lulu into a baby mad woman?  Or having it be OK that Anna doesn't show concern that her daughter hasn't made contact with her for MONTHS?)

    * Build new characters slowly. Everyone knows that it takes six months to a year for an audience to care about a new character. Tie them in to existing characters. Don't shove them down the viewers' throats.(Like Nina?  Or Silas? Or Ava?  No, none of them were shoved down the throats of the GH viewers.)

    * If you feel staff changes are in order, look within the organization first. P&G [Procter & Gamble] does a lot of promoting from within. Almost all of our producers worked their way up from staff positions, and that means they know the show.(Like, say, firing the entire writing staff in favor of the crew from your last show?  Save for one writer.)

    * Don't fire anyone for six months. I feel very deeply that you should look at the show's canvas before you do anything.(And after six months, if something isn't working, yes, you are allowed allowed to cut the dead weight, no matter how much you want to show up another outfit.  Keeping said dead weight will become an albatross if you are egomaniac enough.)

    * Good soap opera is good storytelling. It's very simple.(With Ron, there is no good soap opera, because there is not good storytelling, mainly for the reason he keeps  NOTHING SIMPLE!)

    Man, I enjoyed this rant!

  13. I've always kind of seen Tony as the one to pop up in the show.  And how with him semi-retired from the Avengers, and the position he's going to be taking with the registration in "Captain America: Civil Wars", as well as, he seems to have been the one with the longest history with Coulson, (and RDJ career being somewhat salvaged with TV), my vote goes for him.

  14. I actually kind of saw Jaiying pulling this.  There were really one too many anvils about Gonzalez starting the war for me to think he'd actually be the one.  And she's been giving me bad vibes for a few weeks now.  But I did love her and Cal together.  Not sure they'll get their happily ever after with their daughter though.

As always, the brotherhood of Coulson, Hunter and Fitz is made of win!  And I really want to see Hunter take Ward apart for Bobbie.  And I was oh so not surprised that Kara turned on SHIELD.  Saw her as Ward's plant a mile away.

I did like the Theta Protocol explanation.  The Koenigs were the best.

  15.

Newhart always and forever has the best ending.

My dad never really liked Bob Newhart's style of comedy and in those days, we had one TV, which he pretty well controlled.  Well, my mom and I had to go out one night and we got home, he was joyfully telling us the brilliance of the end of NEWHART.  (Also, it could have had something to do with his mad crush he had nursed for Suzanne Pleshette for years.)

  16. Whoever runs Frank's twitter account tweeted this:

    @valentinifrank Franco gets a big surprise!! @GeneralHospital #RogerHowarth #GH

and it's taking all my self restraint to not tweet back:  Quit trying to make fetch happen!

Frank really needs to learn that Franco is the leader of the WE DON'T CARE contingent.  Good God, GIVE IT UP!!!!!!!!!!
