I thought the same thing. Not usually a Giada supporter, but I felt like this was a pretty good-natured interaction -- she was saying it would be more interesting for her to say, "I found some leftover pork chops and decided to try to make soup out of them" than pretending that it's something she makes all the time.

Or he could have done a Moon over Miami thing, which I know is a phrase but I don't know why. I'm not a huge fan of Lenny, but might watch his show because a) he's the only one who might do something different than any other FN show, and b) my guess is he'd tone down the schtick a bit once he doesn't need it to stand out from the FNS pack.

Hope all goes well for you, harvester. That sounds incredibly stressful.

Like KPC, I kind of like unpacking in a new house. Finding new spots for everything is kind of satisfying. The prospect of going through and packing all my crap, though? That's what will keep me in this house forever. Well, that and the fact that I love my neighborhood. Mr. Voice and I are making a last minute trip to Arizona tomorrow. His father's been battling lung cancer for a few months and it's not going well. He's decided that he doesn't want to do chemo anymore, and he has pneumonia now so . . . well, we just don't know how long he will have. And of course being with family right now is the important thing and I'm glad we're able to do that, but why do sick parents have to be in northern Michigan in January (mine) or Arizona in June (his). It's just getting nice here in Minnesota and off we go to the desert. [/selfish whining]

Congratulations, @Harvester! @dusky, are you my niece? Because that sounds like something her ex would pull. Except their daughter isn't 17.

I think I get to pick out a gift from a catalog. If there's a sparkly umbrella, the choice will be much easier. Trudi-tru, not sure where you are, but there are shady ways to do this. Mr. Voice knows; I'll ask him and get back to you. Remind me if I don't because we're getting ready to head out of town and my brain will probably be elsewhere before I even finish this post. I've gotten slightly better at this recently. One thing I had to overcome was the belief that I'm so forgettable that people who I've been in meetings with in the past would have no idea who I was if I started talking to them. I'm sure some of them don't, but try not to let that stop me. Glad to hear your mom seems to be okay after her tumble, Endeavour. Scary thing to go through.

Hope things improve for you soon, Barphe. The work shindig was fun but we stayed way longer than we would have liked. I normally leave soon after dinner (if I go at all) but we had a good band and I wanted to hear at least some of it. Add to that the fact that it was waaaay across town, and we had to pick my sister up at the airport at 11, so it really wasn't worth going home. Then her flight got delayed, so we were there to the bitter end and beyond. I hope to never see the end of the shindig again. A party animal I ain't.

Well said. So sorry you're discovering more bottom, @AnnieF . (That sounds dirty.) I hear that. I run hot and cold on Pinterest. I used to browse it quite a bit, now I just use it to pin stuff -- mostly recipes -- I want to remember. Incredibly handy for that. So sorry for your loss, @buffyjunkie . Big work shindig tonight. And there was much rejoicing. I worked on the recognition Powerpoint presentation, which, despite the format being approved weeks ago, I had to change at the last minute because it was too . . . orange. (I tried explaining that it was the new black, to no avail.) So I was pissed about that. Then once that was done, my boss informed me that I'd also won an award and said, "I know you're sick of editing it, so I'll leave it up to you whether to put it in." Uh, hells yeah it's going in!

Congrats on the great ticket deal, KPC. Hope it was great! Sorry, Bleu and Bleu's cat, for saying good-bye to the last of the kittens. That's gotta be tough.

Like the time I went to see Julie and Julia a few days into starting the South Beach diet. Big mistake!

So sorry for your family's loss, trudi, and how awful for the daughter.

KatWay, I thought the Quicksilver stuff was really fun and didn't detract from the movie at all. I could watch that Pentagon kitchen scene all day. And is a Bobby/Kitty pairing canon? (Haven't read the comics.) Because maybe I missed it, but I didn't necessarily see them as a couple in the future. Seemed like everyone was too busy avoiding death to pair up at all.

I hear that. Between work stress and my mom getting sick last fall, my exercise routine was anything but routine, which is dumb because it's such a great stress reliever. And now I'm paying the price. Half my clothes from last summer don't fit anymore. Good luck on the house offer, AnnieF and on the job, harvester. Mice. Yuck.

That's what I'm here for, trudi-tru! Jim Dale is also British, with a similar accent to Stephen Fry, at least to my ear. I think I prefer him because he does such a distinctive voice for each character (with so many different accents!) that they really come alive in a fun way. At least in the excerpts I've listened to, Fry didn't do as good a job with this, IMO. ETA: I also got the audiobook of The Night Circus in part because Jim Dale is the reader, and while the book was only okay, he did not disappoint. He's a narrating superstar! This post was not paid for by Jim Dale.

Kavalier and Clay is tops of my list too! Adore that book and have been waiting for that adaptation. I hadn't heard the rumor of a TV series, but had heard about a possible film years ago. The Yiddish Policemen's Union is another Chabon that's been rumored for a film adaptation and I'd love to see that as well. Danny Franks, can you say what some of your issues were with Captain America: The Winter Soldier? (Properly spoiler-tagged of course.) I haven't read the comic books, but loved the movie so just curious.
