  1. If Tyler makes to the end by sitting back and watching the Red team get voted off, and then facilitating the Blue team eat each other alive, I'm all for it.  Maneuvering through the seams to the end is a fine strategy.

Its boring and safe but it is strategy. So technically I get what you are saying.  Although if everyone did it the game would come to a grinding halt so....I still disagree.  And especially sandbagging challenges.  I think that violates Survivor somehow.

It makes me wonder if this is why the editing is so bad...nothing to show because no one is playing.  Carolyn just sitting there with her one II, quiet.  Tyler, quiet, Dan being obnoxious but laying low in challenges etc.  Everyone just staying safe, not playing.  Its also probably why Jenn is so frustrated.

  2. Something about that pic of her and Joe said Ponderosa to me.  Bare walls, high ceilings.  Pure speculation on my part, how could I possibly tell that room corner from a any other room corner?  IDK.  Just a feeling.

    Forgot to add,

I think its total BS that Max gets screen time for a jellyfish sting.  Dan gets scree time for a jellyfish sting.  But all Jenn gets for a scorpion sting is a secret scene.

  3. I read some of his post interviews and....I thought they were very fuzzy.  Either he is a really bad communicator, was worried about giving out spoilers (easily edited) or he really is terrible at strategy and the game and so didn't have anything to say, other than to repeat "no one wanted to work with me"  "I was all alone".

Based on what was shown I think he made some bad calls and got himself booted.  I recognize that he was in a tough situation and may have gone home anyway, but he def sealed his own fate.

  4. Honestly with the seemingly extra heavy editing this season I feel less sure of rooting for anyone, or hating on anyone.  Though I hate beards and Dan's is exceptionally nasty so I can hate on him just for that.  As edited I'm still ok with Mike.  His edit shows him trying his ass off and I've got to respect that.

Quitting does not bother me too much as long as its honest. Sure I don't like it,  it takes away a spot from someone who really wants to be there. But not everyone is going to know how they are going to deal with the situation so I'll cut them some slack.  No money or jury though.    Colton's BS was beyond the pale.

I don't see why wanting to enjoy the game is such a crime.  Jenn loves Survivor and wants to play but when your on an island with people who do nothing but annoy the crap out of you and you can't even play because you ended up on the wrong side of the numbers.....hopefully she turns its around.  If not I hope she gets in some good snark on Dan and Rodney.

Not playing though I have a problem with.  People who excessively do the under the radar thing, no.  ESPECIALLY those who throw challenges to keep a tgt off their back.

    TYLER I'M POINTING AT YOU!

I think Tyler has been sandbagging and is just now getting ready to play.  I read in one of Dan's interviews where he mentioned sandbagging on RC challenges.  Why put a tgt on your back for reward?  I get that and understand it can be a good strategy.  But I don't like it and don't think it should be rewarded.

Imagine if everyone showed up and just stood there or purposefully buffooned there way through every pre individual immunity challenge.

I think Tyler is going to make it far and if gets there doing what I think he's been doing I'm not happy about it.

  5. Wait - so has the twist already happened? This is from an interview pre-premier

Gordon Holmes: What can we expect twist-wise for this season?
Jeff Probst: Twists this season…I think are going to surprise the players because of how simple it is. We don’t have a lot of twists planned. Our big twist out of the gate hinges on one change in the game. We’ve often done something where we say, “Pick one person to make a decision on behalf of your tribe.” That’s worked well. The nice thing about having one person is that no one knows your lie. So, what we’re saying is you have to share your lie. Two people have to decide whether or not to deceive the tribe. And now you’re linked with them. If you lie, they know your lie and you know theirs. What do you do? Do you get rid of them because they know or are you linked with them to the end? And part of the lie is a clue to an idol. Who gets it?
Holmes: In “Survivor: Cagayan” the chosen players had to decide between a bag of rice and a clue. To differentiate this twist; if you take the clue, you still get a smaller bag of rice to throw the rest of the tribe off of your scent.

(EDIT: To clarify, the way the twist works is two people from each tribe will have to make a choice between a big bag of BEANS and no immunity idol clue or a small bag of beans and an immunity idol clue.)

Probst: We’re hoping at least one tribe takes the bait. Cause when we have our switch, which we always do, people start comparing stories.  In a perfect world, the White Collar tribe lies. They live up to their name and they deceive.

Holmes: Are we going to see the return of the Tyler Perry idol?
Probst: The Tyler Perry idol is not coming back this season. But, you say that with a little bit of a…did I sense something there?
Holmes: I wasn’t a fan because it reminded me of “Cook Islands” where Yul had the super powered idol.
Probst: I still submit; look at history. Look at the live show. When I said, “Would you have liked it if Spencer had found it?” And it was a standing ovation. It just fell into the wrong guy’s hands.

But it can't be can it?  He says in the Entertainment interview

And we do a new twist that’s taking the game to another level. It is jumping the shark, as we’ve done so may times, and pushing the envelope. And it’s interesting how it plays out. It’s very Shakespearean in how it plays out and I imagine that we’ll do it again.

I wouldn't call the opening lie/tell the truth about the clue vs. bag of beans either.  Unless he thinks its Shakespearean that So got voted out based on the lie.  That'd be a let down.

Still hoping for a better twist.  Dalton or Cochran or someone needs to ask Probst if this is still happening.

  6. I think people complaining about the editing this year are more spot on that usual.  I keep getting the impression that there are many alliances, sub alliance and relationship that we absolutely have no idea about.  We have no idea about what's going on!

  7. Refresh my memory:  Wasn't it MIKE who SPECIFICALLY wanted to go after HALI?  Wasn't everyone else throwing out Jenn as the obvious choice and Mike was no no Hali?  If I have that right.....

So why in Hali's exit interviews was she saying that she was working with Mike since the merge and hoping he would save her again like he did the first time?  Of course she is trying to point out that she had more strategy and game than seems apparent in her interviews, but this just is another nail in her not knowing where anyone really stood coffin. According to her comment,  it seems like maybe Mike told her he would try to save her and then purposefully targeted her.  When other bootees get to Ponderosa won't they tell her that?  She's not mentioning that she knows in her interviews which is sort of weird.  But it would be a reason not to vote for Mike FTC, unless of course you are the forgiving type and vote for overall good game play.

Sierra - I am beginning to suspect that she is being incredibly disingenuous and sly (or very much protrayed so by editing so who knows what is really going on).  I don't think if she is  not getting along with her BC's other than the shown dustups.  They must blow over.   I think everything is mostly just fine and her flipping has never been a possibility.  I think she is just telling everyone that to find out stuff and further her game.  Basically using the fact that these guys are jerks to portray something that isn't happening and helping to pick them off.

Villian edits.  Haven't a lot of villain's been a little like ' hey that's not really me' afterward.  More to the point, when brought back for a second time don't we see a softer side?  I don't like Dan as shown.   The slapping comment is reprehensible. However  most of us say stupid shit like that in real life all the time.  Bad drivers, people who don't pick up after their dogs...whatever will often elicit a private curse and wish for something bad to happen to said jerks. I mean, how would the lambasting comments on these boards make the posters look?   That said,  before this last got aired there was a Probst interview comment about Dan where I got the impression that he wasn't, and wasn't going to be apologizing for Dan in anyway.  Guess he knew what was coming.

Shirin.  I like and respect her from her bio and think I would in real life.  However I also think she would drive me nuts if she really indeed never shuts up. In a thread somewhere someone reported that her coworkers basically said something similar - we respect her but she really does act that way, i.e. a bit crazy (was it So that called her psychotic?)  I doubt we would be close friends because a much as I could like her I couldn't deal with that energy and talking.  And I think in the pressure cooker of Survivor I'd be going out of my mind.  Its put you in a place of leaving camp for some peace and quiet - which is bad because then people talk about you and "loners" are booted first. So you have to stick around and go nuts, increasing your probability of doing something stupid.  The whole Shirin discussion brings up the whole question of personality disorders/mental health.  She has to know she's driving people crazy.  Hali even told her.  If, as it seems, she hasn't stopped (her editing has changed some so who knows really but it seems like maybe she slowed down a bit but not stopped totally, or has ramped back up)  then (1) she doesn't care to alter her behavior, or (2) she can't alter her behavior.  Like.....she's got a problem like OCD or ADHD or something.  If you think its the latter you can cope with it far better than if you assume its the first.  But it would be hard for me and a lot of people either way, and apparently has been for a good number of the contestants, not just Dan.  I'm not trying to apologize for Dan.  I'm just saying there is a lot of context and editing here.

I would love to see a BC/NC voted off this TC.  Just to keep it interesting.

  8. I loved the US QI, never got very far on the British one which is odd as its usually the other way around.

Will we ever just be able to pay to watch all the British tv they have?  Sigh

  9. Apparently either the Dan Sierra thing has been edited to be seem more hateful that it was or she gets over it.

She attended Dan's viewing party in Maine (with Mike and Tyler) and was sitting right next to him when they aired her saying "that was a terrible apology".  She also said that she snuggled next to Dan for warmth in the shelter.

At this point all I can hope for is for Carolyn to get her nose seriously out of joint with someone and go off her nut and do something stupid.

  10. So Dan, Tyler, Sierra and Mike are friendly.  Sierra said she snuggled up to Dan for warmth and the 3 of them attended his viewing party in Maine.  There were a bunch of pictures of him on some pretty craggy cliffs, apparently he hikes and is an avid disc golf player.  So he is heavy but fit.

In a strategy move, Foley sat out the challenge for rewards but performed well in the immunity challenge. Some Escameca tribal members plotted to throw the challenge won by Nagarote but Foley didn't go along with the plot.

"I refused to do it," Foley told the crowd at the viewing party.

The plot was to protect someone on the Nagarote Tribe. But it meant Escameca was sentenced to the tribal council. The move also protected Sierra, Foley's tribal member, and sent home another, who Foley wanted gone.

??????Anyone want elucidate on the above?

    auditioning

Although this is his first appearance on CBS's "Survivor", Dan Foley has been actively part of the process for about 15 years. After seeing the first season of the show in 2000, Foley was hooked. He started applying and auditioning and didn't stop until he was casted. After over 100 applications, 15 casting calls, and thousands of miles traveled, Dan Foley is now a cast member of "Survivor: Worlds Apart."

Host of TideSmart Talk with Stevoe, Steve Woods, recently welcomed current Survivor contestant Dan Foley (right).

Dan Foley, a Gorham resident, has done it all. He's a minister, an electrician, a landlord, a ski instructor, a car salesman, and a postal worker, among a plethora of other things. Before last summer the only thing Dan Foley hadn't been was a "Survivor" contestant and it had been his goal and passion since season one in 2000 to get on the show. He had sent in applications multiple times before he decided to step it up and start attending casting calls in 2008. His first trip took him from Maine to South Carolina to Maryland to Pennsylvania and eventually back home again. He became so popular in the "Survivor" casting call world, that when he missed a casting call in Las Vegas in early 2013 he had strangers who had heard about him calling to ask why he didn't attend.
When Foley was asked to described the experience of being on survivor he said it was similar to a hostage situation. There is a pre-game event that occurs a week before the show starts filming, and during this time all of the contestants are placed in a run-down resort that appears to have been hit by a hurricane and everyone lives in a tent. The contestants are not allowed to look or talk to one another, and even though they are living in close proximity to one another they are in complete isolation. Foley said that he listened to Harry Potter on tape and walked around with his walkman in his hand to help kill his boredom.

  11. They showed Tyler looking pretty hard.  Since he's had such a quiet edit I wonder if he finds it and does "this incredible" thing since the ony way we have any idea of what he thinks or who he likes is pretty much second hand through confessionals and interviews.

Then there is still the "new twist" thing to come.

  12. I hope that the uneven WC/BC alliance and Rodney sub alliance means there is lots more alliance flipping and changing.  I find that adds excitement and interest rather than, everyone is firm, we all know who is n the bottom and its all just down to any immunity idols and who wins individual immunity  to determine which of the two alliance bottoms go home.

  13. So tribe names in other countries would be like

    Rance
    Outh frican
    Razzilian

Is there a Survivor Spain?  Tribe name "Pain"!

I will say this, it's the first tribe name I've ever remembered for more than like...2 seconds

Kelly's interviews say she didn't KNOW, but felt sure that Carolyn was going to go with BC.  Oddly no one mentions Tyler, at
Least not more than in passing.  This guy is getting a ghost edit.  The mentions all do seem to revolve around "he is smart".
His jumping off the pole first leads me to think that he felt he wasn't going to win so why expend himself needlessly,
he felt pretty safe, and I think he had already picked sides.

Unless there is a good reason; potential future allies, goats etc. I think you always vote the biggest threat first.  I don't see Kelly as a goat or a big threat.  I think BC would do fine without her despite her being a social smoother.  Don't understand that vote despite all the discussion here and think it was a misfire on Jenn's part.  Kelly said she didn't like the NC's but even when Rob C asked her why I'm not sure I really understood the answer.

So the alliance of Kelly, Carolyn, Will and Rodney will now substitute Tyler for Kelly maybe?

  14. From Joaquins interview wih Cochran.  She really irritated him.

Cochran: Beyond your bromance with Rodney and your earlier bond with So, it wasn’t clear what sort of relationships you had with the other players.  How did you connect with everyone else?

Joaquin: Carolyn and Tyler and I were very, very, very close.  When we got to the mix-up and I saw Tyler was on my team — who at the time was my closest ally — I was ecstatic.  I got along with Max; I thought him and his funny delusional thinking was hilarious.  I thought he was a good guy.   Sierra, like you saw, I got along great with her.  We vibed out and laughed a lot.  Even with Mike and Dan… I’m a very easygoing person; it’s hard for someone not to like me.  At the end of the day, I’m a likable person; I’m very social.  I can talk to anybody.  Like I said at the beginning, my job doesn’t define me.  I’ll go out with any of these people and have a drink and — before you know it — it’s 3 in the morning and we’ve spent the entire night talking and laughing our faces off.  And that’s basically how it was with every single person there.  Except for Shirin.

    • Love 1
  15. From his interview with Cochran - the Bromance lives on!

Cochran: Let’s talk more about your relationship with Rodney.  Watching at home, it was clear how intense the bromantic passion he had for you really was.  You, on the other hand, seemed slightly less bromantically attached.  Was this a true bromance, or was it kind of one-sided?

Joaquin: Listen, like I said, you go out there and you’re with these people you can’t vibe out with, and then Rodney probably saw me and was like, “Finally, another bro — somebody I can talk to about girls and going out and partying.”  He’s my very good friend even to this day.  We talk almost every single day.  He’s come down to visit — we’ve gone out for New Year’s Eve. We cause a lot of trouble together.  So it’s definitely mutual — that’s my boy right there.

Same interview answering the why not Joe question:

Joaquin: The thing is, I got there and I don’t know what went on the prior twelve or thirteen days before I arrived.  So I finally see somebody I could vibe out with and talk about real things and laugh with.  Rodney’s a clown — he’ll make anybody laugh.  He’ll also make you want to kill him, but that wasn’t the case with me.  Of course, looking back, I probably should’ve taken Joe — the thing is, I was worried about bringing Joe into the merge and having four No-Collars on the other side and then him linking up, making it five, and then that would’ve been a disaster.  Honestly, I thought everyone was thinking the same way as me.  Unfortunately, they were not.

He ends the internvew with "I hope to be able to do it again sometime"

  16. You mean this is cast has gotten all so close and that includes Rodney and Dan?  Really?  Ok I can see Joaquin and Rodney and Dan, but the rest, really?

If Rodney and Dan make the jury I will have lost faith in Survivor being more than a game of chance forever.

  17. So they are at 12 now.  Am I counting right?  And people seem to think that the merge might be with 12 so next episode - merge before immunity challenge? Or after?  I've seen people say it both ways.

So how will the alliances shape up?  I'd love to see some switching up so Dan and Rodney get left in the dust.

    Will Carolyn pull in Tyler?

Will Joe pull in Sierra?  I think their conversation was about something and unless someone can guarentee Dan and Rodney are gone post haste or she just really has no other better option she is outta blue collar

So if Mike sticks with Dan and Rodney picks up Kelly and loses  Sierra BC = 4

No collar will have Joe, Jenn, Hali, Will, 4 plus Sierra = 5

That leaves Tyler, Shirin, Carolyn?  No one wants to be on an alliance of 3  I could see Tyler going with Blue collar, Shirin going with No collar leaving Carolyn as probably BC?

So BC = 6 without Sierra

NC = 4 plus 3 with Sierra, Tyler and Caroline = 7, with Shirin it would be 8

    Is that right?

    From Joaquins post snuff interview

Joaquin: I regretted it immediately after day three — it ruined my chances of keeping So alive in the game, which is very unfortunate.  But I don’t feel like it hurt my chances of moving forward with my tribe — because what you don’t see is, after day three, Tyler, Carolyn, and I basically became the power team on our tribe.  Max and Shirin were on the outs starting day four until the mix-up.  So, of course, I regret it because my girl went home and I wish I could’ve kept her around longer.  Just for the record, though, the “neutral” thing was not my lie; sorry, So.

Cochran: I was surprised that, even after the bungled “neutral” lie, you seemed to have pretty good relationships with your White Collar tribemates.  How did you manage to ingratiate yourself so well after that day one mistake?

Joaquin: It’s funny — the only thing I have to thank Shirin for is being so crazy that it drew me, Carolyn, and Tyler together and it built this extremely strong bond.  And Carolyn had this hatred for Max, which was great because —  I didn’t mind Max, but I couldn’t stand Shirin, and Max and Shirin were great friends.  So guess what: sorry Max, [expletive] you — you did it to yourself.  You take the crazy person on the tribe and you become best friends with her, then everybody else is gonna look at you like, “Uh, alright.”

Cochran: The preview for next week’s episode showed us that the merge has finally arrived.  Assuming last night’s tribal council had gone the way you wanted, what were your plans for the post-merge game?

Joaquin: In an ideal world, I thought I was going in there with me, Tyler, Rodney, and Sierra.  Then, on the other side, obviously I had Carolyn, who was my really close ally.  And then Rodney said that he was really close with Kelly and that we were going to head over there, and be us six against them.

    Where was Mike?

  18. Moved my speculations about next weeks alliances to Speculation thread.

But I have to say it:  I think there is a good chance that the BC's will need Shirin in a post merge alliance.  Rodney and Shirin in the same alliance!

    Could be good.

From Wok's interview with Cochrane.  Why didn't they just talk to Mike about it?

Cochran: Alright, so you brought up challenges.  What happened with last night’s thrown challenge?  Whose plan was it?  Who was in on it?  Were you not aware that thrown challenges almost always anger the Survivor gods?

Joaquin: I was not in on it.  Rodney brought it to my attention the day before the challenge.  Then I spoke to Tyler about it, then we spoke to Rodney again and tried to convince him that it probably wasn’t the smartest move.  I believe the people who were involved were Rodney and Mike and maybe Dan, but if you see, Dan won his round, so… It’s a really good question.  We’re going to have to wait for one of them to take a loss for us to find out exactly what the [expletive] they were thinking.

    • Love 2
  19. So Mike was so desparate to make sure that Kelly was there for him/alliance that he threw a challenge.  So that is an unbreaklable alliance of two.  What I'm trying to figure out is if he is still trying to hang on to the original BC alliance of all of them; Mike, Dan, Sherri(?), Rodney, Kelly?

Wouldn't this be a good time to go to Tyler and Joe and she what kind of deal he could put together with him, Kelly and Sierra?   Rodney is never going to get over Joaquin and is a loose cannon in all respects with this meglomania.  Sherri hates Dan and I suspect so will Carolyn, Jenn, Hali and Shirin

I think Sierra made a deal with Joe in any respect.

  20. On one hand I liked that Carolyn at least was honest with Shirin which is a help to Shirin.  On the other I think her demeanor lent more credence to my estimation of her as a very high maintenance friend with lots of rules who gets her nose out of joint easily and holds grudges (see Max).

I was also very happy that Hali also was honest with Shirin - if no one will tell you, you can't fix it.

I really liked Shirin's confessionals, she was taking it to heart and willing to try to change her behavior which is very hard.  Both the seeing/accepting what others say and the changing part.  So kudo's to her.

I sort of, no, totally, hate long nasty beards.  So I couldn't stand Dan right from the start.  And he is a total dick.  Not only was he clueless in his conversation in the watering hole but the way he was gesturing made it clearly apparent that they were strategizing not just bs'ing.   Isn't he gone yet?  Please?

I have a bad tendency to tunnel vision when I have to concentrate like on that memorization challenge.  Mike talking to me would be like a fly buzzing around.  It would totally ruin my game but I wouldn't even understand what he said the first time.  I absolutely get why his talking to her totally threw her and it took awile to split some focus from trying win the memorization game.

As a fallen Catholic, bible bumpers (too funny) who wear their religion on their backs are very foreign to me and I don't particularly care for that outspoken kind of religiousity.  However I like Mike, or his edit anyway.  I think throwing a challenge is a bit of a bum move.  But he had better reason than most and he said it killed him a little in his confessional so he knows what he did.  His game playing seems pretty good but a big mistep was letting Dan talk.  At all. But especially to whats her name.  He needs to freakin fix that.

I would love to see some fluidity in the alliances.  I don't think I've seen a better show where it could work really well.  When alliances do not break, they may win but its boring.

I didn't understand the Joaquin vote.  I mean - is Rodney really going to stick with his blue collar alliance that just shafted him?   He might for awhile but I'd never trust him to not muck something up on purpose in some grand scheme.

How about Mike, whats her name go with Tyler?  Then pull in Kelly and maybe Shirin.  Leave Dan and Rodney to figure it out on their own.

    And

When idiots like Rodney stay in the game this long it totally underscores how Survivor is just a big game of coincidence, luck and a little junior high turning on the nerds and loners first.  It just depends on your season, who your teamed with etc.  Doesn't matter if you can play, nada.

I mean how do Dan and Rodney's make the merge! The idea of themm making jury is just heartbreaking.  There is no game in Survivor!

Looking forward to seeing how Shirin pulls it together.  Seeing if Mike measures up and what is Tyler up to?

Last I was disappointed in the turtle reward.  First think I thought of is OMG they are going to hang on to a turtle and not let her lay till they get there and set up and blah blah blah.  Then it  looked like Kelly had a flashlight pointed right at the turtle.  I just think animals should be allowed to do their thing without people papparazzi  freaking them out and upping their stress level.  AND while for me it would be a religious experience they didn't even seem to get off on it.  "oh its big.  gee I didn't know they did that"  head smack.  total waste.

Not to mention  the scent of all those people around that nest site will draw predators that take the eggs:(

    Really irresponsible.

  21. I am a couple of episodes into S5.  Season 4 is my favorite so far.

I love this show no doubt.  I loved that there was a relationship btw Raylon and Boyd in S1 and after.  But at this point I see it as pretty frayed and bankrupt and that makes me really sad.  Raylan seems to be getting darker.  Boyd's behavior is worse but somehow it does not seem to diminish him as much?

There are so many themes and scenes that I could talk about.  I'll choose this one for now.

When Boyd breaks into the house that he and Ava looked at to buy.  Growing up always feeling like less.  Finally having someone that understands that, understands you, loves you and the two of you are....were.....

    Wow, that was amazing writing.

I kind of wondered why someone like Mags, or Limehouse or other drug runners all over, sometimes stay in their neighborhoods, their old houses even though they could afford to leave. I suppose part of it is where their market is.  But I think some of them sense it might not work emotionally.    Sometimes that move into the big house backfires on you and and you still feel like less, like you don't belong. Even worse now you don't belong where you're from.   I guess I sort of feel like Boyd was spared something.  Actually Ava's farm house looks extremely nice compared to what I've seen in West Virginia and even without the comparison it looks nice!
