  1. Emmit never found out about Nikki had another accomplice. By that point he seemed to have completely left his guard down. Also, Emmit's wife doesn't strike me as the type to help have her husband whacked in the kitchen while her daughter and grand kid are in the next room.
  2. That's unlikely, because the text mad to have come from someone Varga knew. A text from Nikki's number or an unknown number wouldn't have triggered that reaction on Varga. This was a warning from a source he trusted. Varga really has no way of knowing how many people Nikki has with her. By that point he knows she's not working alone, but not that she only has one (formidable) guy working with her. As far as he knows, there's someone with a gun on every floor. And that's assuming that there is a second floor. It was a self-storage facility, I believe. It wouldn't be out of the ordinary for it to have only 2 floors.
  3. The writers seem to have mixed up the concepts of dowry and bride price, and are using the term bride price for both. Which is the right way to approach this conflict, as we have seen that there is nothing but resentment and petty squabbles at the heart of it. There is no great wrong done to start it, no great crime laying at its heart. It's just a mutual petty dislike that grew out of all proportion over generations.
  4. If that’s the case, then the Doge is either extremely reckless or extremely ruthless. Setting off a cart-full of gunpowder in the middle of a public event where his own brother will be in attendance? I think we can rule out him offing the ambassador on purpose as a false flag, as there is no way they could’ve intentionally directed that shard of wood to embed itself on his chest, and everyone else in the high place of honor made it more or less unscathed. That means one of two things. The Doge doesn’t care if his brother gets hurt during the explosion which would make him callously ruthless. Or the Doge didn’t think it through or consider the possibility that his own brother would be put in danger because of the stunt, which would make him dangerously reckless. And on the gripping hand, there's the chance that it is the Doge's agent provocateur who doesn't mind putting the Doge's own brother in danger in order to achieve his ends. That would be a dangerous game as the Doge would know who was really responsible for his brother's death.
  5. We have to remember that Nikki has had the better part of 3 months to plan her move. More than enough time to find out about Agent Dollard, Varga's routine, etc.
  6. The biggest hole in that theory is that Varga was clearly taken by surprise by Gloria and her investigation. He had no info on her, her town or anything. They had so little information on the case he had to have Yuri steal the case file. If Varga ha planned to kill Ennis, he would know every little detail about his life, including his relationship to Gloria and all there was to know about Gloria.
  7. Because as Paul said last episode, Mr. Wrench is "on a better path". Notice that they didn't kill anyone when they stole the truck either.
  8. He doesn't and it isn't. At least as far as Ray and the dentist are concerned. But from what little we saw of him the St. Cloud Chief of Police doesn't strike me as the type to look too closely at the orgy of evidence and the confession that Varga gift-wrapped for him and Dammik.
  9. I just realized that the Widow may have straight up lied to Gloria. We know she is the "Storage Queen of the Great Lakes Region", but she claimed to be from St. Louis.
  10. I may have had my doubts before, but now I am sure. The Widow is Up To Something.
  11. The first review I've seen is out and it is good. GLOW is unlike any show we've ever seen
  12. Then appoint an elected commissioner to oversee the department. But the person in charge of actually running things should be a qualified profesional who can be fired in the event of incompetence or malfeasance, without having to wait until the next election.
  13. Not necessarily. People arriving at the afterlife looking exactly as they did at the moment of death is a normal trope in movies and TV. And if Paul intended to send them back to the mortal world in short order, there really is no reason to do more than patch up their wounds and send them on their way.
  14. I will never understand that habit they have in the US of filling civil service offices with elected officials.
  15. I'm betting on an earthly one. No reason to give them a car otherwise. I'm partial to Cream myself.
  16. Another angle to consider (that I found out from reading some reviews online about the episode) is that the name Ray Wise's character used to introduce himself to Gloria, Paul Marrane, is apparently one of the many attributed to the Wandering Jew. That would explain a lot about his dialogue with Nikki.
  17. That still fits, since the appropriate response when meeting an Old Testament angel should be absolute, unswerving terror.
  18. I don't believe he is a minion of evil or The Devil himself. His interactions with Gloria run counter to this. He didn't tempt her or lead her astray. If anything, he offered comfort and a helping hand. It seems to me that he would fit better as an angel, in the Old Testament sense. Those guys were not the fluffy winged guys of pop culture. They were beings of terrible power who were not to be fucked with when carrying out the orders of the Lord. He sent Nikki and Mr. Wrench to punish the wicked and delivered unto Yuri his just deserts. The Hebrew words could play into this.
  19. Could be. The fact that he decided to forgo the interest may be a hint that the creditor was meant to be Antonio. Wasn't that his shtick in the play? Lending money without interest and thus bringing the rates down for everyone? "I hate him for he is a Christian; But more for that in low simplicity He lends out money gratis, and brings down The rate of usance here with us in Venice." All Paris can confirm is that they were wed. Who officiated the ceremony and bore witness is another matter.
  20. Venice is being name dropped an awful lot. So much so that I'm starting to think that the Doge has an agent provocateur in Verona pouring gasoline into the feud. Considering that Shakespeare has not one but two plays set there, I wouldn't be surprised if Iago or Shylock was acting as the Doge's agent. Lord Capulet has already made it clear that the only reason he did that was because he wouldn't stand up to his wife. The way he brought it up made it seem like a recurring argument he's had with his wife several times. Not both families. Lord Montague not only knows, but was behind everything. But the Friar has no less to fear from him. The Capulets would kill his ass as revenge for Juliet's death, but for Lord Montague the good Friar is a loose end that needs to be tied up. Then again, the fact that the Friar is still breathing might be an indication that Lord Montague isn't as ruthless as we have been assuming.
  21. But as we saw in this episode, until January 1st, 2011 Dammick has no legal authority to order the case closed or stop the investigation. Until that date comes along, it is Gloria's call as Chief to keep the case open, making it an active investigation from the Eden Valley PD, not Gloria's private investigation.
  22. You said she was wearing a uniform she had no authority to wear. That's proven not to be the case in this episode. The only thing I can come up with is a cavity search. A video recording of a prisoner being inspected down there, specially if it's a woman, could open up the department to all sorts of litigation.
  23. That's the one. According to Wikipedia it is mostly whisky or bourbon. It wouldn't take that many to get him hammered.
