As for what he supposedly told Leslie in private, why believe her? We don't know her. Besides, in that latest interview, she phrased it as, "He kind of said," and similar weasel words on her part. 🤔

If Leslie is so bitter and is accusing Gerry of all these big lies he supposedly told her in the FS, why is she being so loyal to him?  The "in private" doesn't hold much weight if it was all lies.  In this case, I believe it means I want the Golden Bachelorette gig and will use your curiosity to prolong my 15 min. of fame.

                                                               OR

I'm pretty sure I spotted her several times at the DWTS finale last night.  It looked like she was with another contestant, Peggy, standing right behind the hosts.  Maybe she traded all her secrets for an audition.

It's hard to be attention-seeking if you hide your identity.  And if she wanted to lie to make money, I think picking The Hollywood Reporter is a strange place to go.  For one, are they known for paying people for interviews like the rags do?  And why would she choose an outlet that did journalistic diligence to try and verify as much of what she said that they possibly could that wasn't simply he said/she said?

It may be that the only attention this woman wanted was from Gerry, in the form of revenge.  Or it was a way to try to explain away her own shame at having been involved with a very recent widower.  That's also up there in the ick department.

I don't know how reliable the reputation of the HR is, but I found no solid proof of anything in that article and many contradictions.  It even stated that the producers may have chosen to ignore inconsistencies in Gerry's past.

I'm not a big Gerry fan, but this was all "she said" by a participating partner in this relationship who has at least one icky skeleton in her own closet.

  3. This franchise counts on controversy to promote ratings.  They claim to have a thorough vetting process but somehow always "miss" obvious transgressions such as racial faux pas.  These keep them in the news from the end of one show to the beginning of the next.

If nothing egregious emerges, there's always an ex to fall back on.  Whether they're hunted down by magazines, TV shows, podcasts, revealed in chat rooms or come forward on their own, they keep the conversation going.  Then these exes will be used again and again by the franchise. Charity Lawson just has to go to Paradise to "warn" another contestant interested in her ex that his ex "DM'd her" with dirt; yet we just saw Charity on DWTS sniffling and weeping over her ex while she's engaged to someone else.  Then they regurgitate Katie Thurston to run a nasty roast of the BIP cast and create drama for Blake Moynes.

It's all cruel and predictable and part of the formula which unfortunately works every time.  Why any imperfect mere mortal would want to be the Bachelor or Bachelorette is beyond me.

How does it not "make sense"? Does that mean he didn't make "comments" about his wife's weight?  His daughters'?  To them or about them?  I was 118 when I got married; after two kids and a hysterectomy, I weighed 130 at 5'5".  I heard about my weight way too often from my 6'0" 140 "hunk."

If he prefers larger women, surely he had the opportunity to give that information to Production.  I think his preference was obvious...

It's not a matter of it making sense.  This was an accusation from an embittered ex and, unless we hear such words from Gerry himself or someone has proof in writing, this is only pure gossip.

Good Lord, because an attention seeking ex girlfriend decides to make some cash from interviews, this man has been accused of being a fat shamer and possibly a wife killer, based on absolutely no solid proof.  That's not OK.

Manipulation, dishonesty and heartbreak for an already broken woman who will spend her days in therapy.

The format of this show is clear.  If Leslie was truly broken before participating, that's not anyone else's fault.  She's a big  girl.  I wonder how thorough the psych evaluation is for applicants.  If it's decent and they thought Leslie was OK mentally, maybe some of her sob story was an attempt at manipulation.

  6. There were some contradictions in the HR article that initially struck me, so I went back and read it again. The first is this "Carolyn" wanting to remain anonymous and not have her relationship with Gerry to become "national news fodder."  But "Carolyn" then decided to come forward when The Golden Bachelor "became a ratings bonanza."  Right, great way to stay out of the spotlight.  Excuse me if I smell $$$.

Then "Carolyn" admits to being mortified having been involved with a recent widower.  Her self defense:  “I just really didn’t see it. Until I went back and looked at my text messages, I never realized Gerry’s texts had turned hot and heavy so relatively soon.”  Hmmm . . . So what, you didn't understand them the first time around?

As for the high school reunion, are we to believe that Gerry invited her but waited until she was actually packing to fat shame her?  OK.  The HR did not mention any texts from Gerry with such comments and family and friends backing "Carolyn" are not proof.  Sorry, but his wife, daughters and granddaughters are not stick figures.  If he felt that way about weight, I'd be more inclined to believe him cheating on his wife.

Finally, after "Carolyn's" stress-induced fall, she struggled to get to her car with "Gerry at her side."  After which Gerry said, "Call me when you get to your hotel, so I know you made it safe.”  Well isn't that nasty of him!

What???  Yes, maybe Gerry is cheap, maybe he dated too soon for some after his wife's death, yes he has his dating lines down like most men, maybe he padded his resume like many others, and maybe out of fear of judgement he wanted to keep moving on with "Carolyn" secret.

Like most of what we're fed from the Bachelor franchise, some things don't add up.  But neither does much of "Carolyn's" story.  Hope she was well paid.

But the thing where we know she's telling the truth and Gerry is lying is with the timeline.  Gerry's attempt to clean up the story in People said he waited one year while THR was able to verify with texts and communication that he started dating his ex shortly after his wife's death.

It seems to be the default now for the rag sheets to seek out an ex of the current lead.  Of course these stories would be juicy with gossip by virtue of the source being an ex.  I wonder how much these exes get paid.

Thanks, @Armchair Critic, for posting the link (yahoo.com/entertainment/golden-bachelor-gerry-turner-reacts-212518234.html) to Gerry's reaction to the HR et al. articles about his real life history.

But my reaction, OTOH, was that I am less inclined to think he's a con artist or a toxic partner.
The earlier reveal articles had me thinking he was horrible.
Maybe even a serial killer, heh.
And he undoubtedly does have his familiar lines he says when his libido is up.
But, given his long marriage to his first wife, and with Hollywood Reporter having not unearthed any Domestic Violence history or anything, I think he and his post-death-of-wife-gf just had a nasty breakup.
Words about weight gain were tossed out in a hurtful manner. Maybe she said some unkind crap too.🤷🏻‍♀️
And, yes, this could happen again with Theresa.

Your interpretation is extremely fair.  This show manipulates the truth all the time and we need to remember there are contracts involved.  This HR article is nothing more than a he said, she said.  Somewhere in the mix, there is the truth.  And I correct myself, the article is actually just a "she said."

I've seen many cases of widowers dating relatively soon after losing their wives, so I don't think Gerry is so unusual.  As for the girlfriend's angle, I agree with your view.   Lots of hurt is always part of a breakup, on both sides.  We have no proof this woman's account is accurate and I can't fault Gerry for not wanting to get into a petty back and forth when asked about it.  Kind of mature for that, no?

Also, if my memory is correct, I don't remember Theresa dangling wealth before anyone.  Wasn't it Gerry who realized he needed to know more about her and at dinner asked her about her career?  I can't remember her even hinting that she was wealthy.

If anyone used slick tactics in the fantasy suite, my bet would be on Leslie after that creepy dance she did around him at the talent show.  I also question Leslie's claim that Prince wrote a song about her.  In a documentary after Prince's death, there was quite a focus on a woman named Denise who was known to be his muse.  That story is the only thing I can remember about her beyond all the woe is me drama.  The poor woman looked washed up and worn out from the get go.  I think a few extra hours alone with her finally allowed Gerry to see beyond any lusty attraction.

I guess i never “got” leslie. She always to me looked sad and. Miserable. I agree that mopiness and  neediness was a huge issue. Even though theresa  seemed to desparate,I loved her for him

I found Leslie exhausting and feel that she was the desperate one.  I wouldn't want to be around her for long.  I think Theresa seems like a fun person and that she and Gerry truly connected early on.  The way this show is so totally removed from reality, I can see someone getting caught up in moments and ending up very confused about their feelings.  My guess is that, after spending so much time in the fantasy suite with Leslie's negativity, Theresa felt like a breath of fresh air.

Two things got my attention at the ATFR:  Gerry seemed a lot less "golly gee" and whenever they showed the ladies, my eyes always went to Faith's and Joan's lower lips.  Faith always seems to be pouting and, sorry Joan, but you really need an update and a good haircut.

My hubby's contribution to the "amazing and unbelievable announcement that was going to change the Bachelor franchise forever" (or however they chose to phrase it) was . . . She's pregnant!!!  Made my night.

  10. Did anyone see the other interesting article recently by Allure magazine, if I remember correctly?  It was something to the effect of "Gerry's women reveal their beauty secrets."  I had a good laugh because I'd say 90% of them admitted getting Botox and other fillers occasionally.  Except for Joan!  😂  Between this and the Hollywood Reporter article, I'd say yes, they think we're stupid!

From 2010 to 2019, my husband and I travelled a lot. Like 2 international trips a year. COVID hit and that took its toll, plus an aging mother really didn't want 'us' to leave so long. I really have no interest in traveling because of craziness at airports and flights.

Mom has passed away, COVID is less a factor. But I still am not anxious to travel like we used to. We are ~65 in age now.

I've been wondering if my husband and I were the only ones who felt this way.  We so looked forward to retirement and traveling at our leisure.  We did some before Covid hit and a domestic trip in May, but it's so different now and the excitement and pleasure are gone.  And maybe I'm super neurotic, but the bedbug outbreaks did it for me!  Tearing a hotel room apart before settling in is no fun.  I'm happy we took 5 years to travel before we started a family; that helps to ease this current disappointment.

Theresa has been busted hitting "like" on bad comments about Kathy and other women there. If Gerry is too stupid to see through her and ends up choosing her, then he deserves what he gets. I do think this fame has gone to his head so good luck to the woman he picks.

Kathy really did remind me of a mean middle school girl in her comments.  When she tried to include some of the other women into a little clique, that solidified it for me.  How old is too old for that crap?  Perhaps Theresa could have "zipped it," but so could Kathy.  I have no horse in this race, but I'll give Theresa the benefit of the doubt.

  13. I just don't get the compatibility with Leslie at all.  Gerry is so midwestern milquetoast and Leslie is so edgy.  I also don't see how her relationship fails and two marriage past meshes with his solid decades long marriage to his high school sweetheart.  Would Leslie even want the lifestyle Gerry brings?

Theresa seems to be a good match, but I really don't see any of this working out in the end.  There are too many factors to work out at this stage with families, homes, etc.  I thinks it's entirely possible to find love at the later stage of one's life, but only if practical factors are in play, like meeting someone local or reuniting with someone you already know.

A slim figure and long blonde hair goes a long way with some men. ;)

When I see her modeling clothes in her videos I am a bit envious of her slender figure and long legs and how she looks in clothes. But no to the frozen face.

What I'm finding totally refreshing is the change in the American standard of beauty which, for generations, has been the blonde and blue eyed Scandinavian stereotype.  Not only has Gerry preferred the brunettes, but the clear preferences on Bachelor in Paradise this year have been the Latinas and women of mixed race.  The two contestants with the long blonde hair extensions and traditional franchise look were immediately sent home!

Not judging anyone here, as beauty is beauty regardless of hair color, etc.  It's just nice to see that the opinion of beauty is evolving and more inclusive.  What's also been interesting on BIP is that most of the women appear to be much more natural.  Yes, there are some boob jobs and hair extensions, but that does not seem to be the norm this season.  Let's hope this continues!

I was looking at Kathy last night and she looks like she's had some work done.🤷🏼‍♀️ Can you tell me if someone is going to have their hair long, why don't some of them brush it, especially the back. That drives me crazy.

Kathy looked stunning last night.  My impression was a professional makeup job, not work, as her face seemed to have some natural movement.  But it's hard to tell with only the quick glimpses we got of her.  Based on her appearance during the show, I have to say that I thought several times that she had some good bone structure going on.  Can't say I was a fan of her personality, though!  Theresa could use a filter but I got mean girl middle school vibes from Kathy.

I think the hair thing with all the women of the bachelor franchise is the tendency to pull all their hair to the front to make it look thicker.  I imagine that when it ends up back behind their head it could use a brushing!  And let's be honest, many of all ages could use a good haircut.

Not speaking on anyone or any platform in particular but as a woman of a certain age reading some of the comments on their faces etc. YIKES. I can certainly relate to being older and single and thinking your odds get slimmer and slimmer every passing year. Then you come on television hoping for your fairytale and not only do you not get it but you get to read all the things wrong with you and a magnifying glass on your imperfections. I know that is what they signed up for, I get it but DAMN. My skin is not thick enough.

It's about time we women take a stand against what society expects of us to maintain a certain level of beauty/youth.  If extreme cosmetic procedures are constantly paraded as normal, that will make us feel even more invisible.  And do we want our daughters and granddaughters to have to live with the same unrealistic "beauty" expectations that are getting worse all the time?  If someone wants to do that to themselves, fine, but it's just my opinion that it's very unhealthy and I don't want to watch it.  And it sure doesn't take a magnifying glass to spot.  Nor is it fooling anyone.  Golden is golden, even with Botox and hair extensions.

For me, personally, it’s the way she used to mug for the camera any time it was nearer, more so than anyone else. I had also heard that in the beginning she was obsessed with Val and stalked him then they broke up but his family was pressuring him to marry soon and settle and have kids. But personally, that’s their private life, my issue is her constant mugging. Don’t get me wrong she’s an incredible dancer. I just find her off putting.

All professional dancers are trained to portray the essence of whatever character is required for a particular dance style.  Jenna's demeanor is always proper to whatever dance she is doing.  Camera angles also play a part, which she has no control over.  During a sexy group dance, they're all "mugging."  And she is no different than any other woman pursuing a love interest.  But "stalking"?  Did Val get a restraining order or something?

Some of them have the numb upper lip Botox thing going on

Joan's entire face is frozen except her lower lip and eyelids.  I've been restoring some vintage Barbies for my granddaughter and felt like I was looking at one when she spoke.  I just don't get all the fuss over her and I certainly wouldn't watch a Golden Bachelorette trying to look like one of the hundreds of already manufactured 20-somethings we've seen over the years.  Her date with Gerry was just on par with many others and her personality pales next to most of the women on that stage last night.   We've also had way too many lead picks based on sob stories like Joan having to leave for her daughter.  At this stage of the game, every woman has an abundance of drama and trauma in their history.

I want to see someone real, with vitality and life experience written all over her well maintained but genuine beautiful face.  And someone with resilience and humor.  Nancy, Natascha, Susan and Sandra get my vote.

When Gerry was doing the talk-show circuit just prior to this show debuting, he seemed nice and natural. He's coming across as kind of sappy to me now. Out of the whole bunch, Susan seems the most well-adjusted person there.

I agree about Gerry's sappiness; it's hard to take seriously.  I also couldn't agree more about Susan.  Not only does she seem like a truly genuine and lovely woman, it's so nice to see how she's accepted her age and natural beauty and created her best self.  If there is a Golden Bachelorette chosen from this group, I'd love to see Susan.  Many seem to promote Joan but, personally, I'm over the ridiculously long blonde hair extensions and desperate attempts to look young.  I want to see someone real, not an unrealistic stereotype.

As for the remaining 3, I have a hard time believing any of them could work with Gerry.  After a long marriage, I don't see Gerry relating to Leslie or Faith, both of whom seem to have bad track records with lasting relationships and constantly speak of their bad choices.  Why would any of that change in their senior years?  As for Theresa, I think she might be the best match but she comes off to me as very needy.  I'm not sure what to think of her at this point.

I just watched this week's episode and couldn't agree more.  We went from Ashley's farting and peeing on the beach last year to a poop baby.

While I'm here, I must say I too am really getting annoyed with delaying the rose ceremonies.  There should be some reward at the end for all the foolery over 2 hours.  And I was wondering when the real Rachel would show up; I never bought her serene classy act.  If I have to be subjected to her saying she was disrespected one more time, I'm going to scream.  I think she and Kate would make a wonderful couple where they could create drama for each other for eternity.  And spare the rest of us!

  23. Hi all, I'm not watching this season but had to come here and see what was going on.  It's pretty shocking to see only one page of comments every week!  We all predicted that viewership was going to suffer with the choice of Charity as Bachelorette, but wow!  I didn't expect to see it this bad.  Let's hope a lesson was learned here and that we can look forward to future picks that are based on compelling personalities--and maybe some amazing brains, like Ariel's!

For those of you watching, I do hope you're enjoying it.  See you in Paradise!
