Holiday Baking Championship - General Discussion
Catfi9ht replied to a topic in Holiday Baking Championship
I didn't understand why Aishia's pavlova won. The judges gushed over how it looked. Three different colors of baby poop brown? It did not look appealing to me at all. The crazy lady from Utah went home so it doesn't matter in the end. Not a fan of the hyper girl or the British lady who acts like she's auditioning for Food Network. Everyone else seemed fine. I missed the naughty/nice lists from last year. I thought that was cute. I liked the cake vs pie idea and the fact they started with fall. I'm not mentally prepared for Christmas yet. I love Carla. Everything she does is adorable to me. Good start to the season. -
I hadn't seen these posted yet. Twitter is in love with Tyler James Williams. 😍

Agreed. Also we know Janine had an absentee mom that didn't really pay attention to her at all. Tariq was probably the first person to show her positive attention and filled the void she never had from her family. Now that Janine is being exposed to other types of positive attention and healthy relationships in her life and viewing others', she's realizing what a positive relationship looks like and is seeking that for herself. Shout out to Janine's friend (I forgot her name) to advise Janine to meet Tariq in a neutral location. She also tried a show Janine recommended, didn't like it, and was really nice about explaining how it wasn't for her. Janine really needs a good friend outside of work right now and I'm so happy she has one. I'm pulling for Janine. I'm so glad we didn't have yet another episode where she oversteps boundaries. Instead, she establishes her own in a healthy way. Great setup for a recurring plot line. I'm more of a serial viewer than episodic and am looking forward to what they do with the charter schools plot line. This show is so great. This season started out strange for me compared to last season, but with this episode, I feel like we're on an upward trend.

Holiday Baking Championship - General Discussion
Catfi9ht replied to a topic in Holiday Baking Championship
After watching the great judging rapport for this year's Halloween baking championship, I'm not looking forward to suffering through Nancy's inane banter. I would love to see Carla, Duff, and Lorraine work together. Looking forward to seeing how this season goes. -
Agree with everyone's comments about the cakes. Blayre was a surprise win, but I'm happy for her and she did have the best looking cake. I loved Stephanie's comment about her eyebrows fighting with her Botox when tasting Lauren's mini cheesecake. I always suspected she had Botox and lip fillers after watching some previous years recently, but I love the fact that she's honest and has a sense of humor about it. The more I get to see her personality, the more I love her sense of humor. Overall, I thought the judging this year was positive and supportive (even when some of the results looked terrible) instead of catty and mean. The vibe this year for the judges and the contestants was overwhelmingly positive, supportive, and most importantly, FUN! I loved the theme this year. What a fun season!

This wasn't the first time the show had the contestants make entremets so... 🤷 She's the culinary instructor so she should have been the most prepared for this show IMO. I didn't really care for her on the show and her products seemed fine for an instructor when usually the instructors on the show are top notch. I will say I went to her Facebook post and expected it to be as bitter as the quoted sentence but it was very positive and lovely. https://m.facebook.com/people/Kristi-Pak-Descher/1358761195/#_=_ I'm surprised Kristi went home and agree it should have been Blayre but I would have been fine with either. Came here to post the same thing. I've noticed some strange judging choices and comments this season like how the judges gushed over the "potion bottle" eclairs when they looked like a purple tipped mess with a note on it. Also, her story had nothing to do with what John introduced. I've also noticed the show has completely dropped using fall flavors as a requirement for each round. The show is now a baking competition with scary decorations. I'm completely fine with it because most of the time the requirement was only enforced selectively and subjectively as what has happened on the spring version. Not sure I can forgive Jill for hating sloths, but it was silly and memorable which helped her win so maybe I can look past it just once. My favorite decoration was Zac's with the rubber ducky. It seemed to tell a scarier story than Kristi's. Everyone in the finale seems nice and supportive of each other. I'm fine with any of them winning. This season has been fun. The theme was great. The sets and costumes were phenomenal as always.

This is a show with an excellent setup but couldn't pull off the ending. It wasn't bad; it was...fine. Not a lot of new information and the episode dragged out what it did show. I'm glad both Violet and Sam are okay and Emma seems like she's finally healing. Nick Offerman was amazing in everything he was in, but Balthazar was the star for me. The guy that played Alex was pretty excellent too. What DID get me was Offerman's cry when he saw Violet was alive. It was gutteral and pure, and I felt it in my bones. Hell, I'm tearing up now just thinking about it. By far, the best part of the episode.

It's been like this almost every week for me. I'll stop the recording before it gets to the previews then the following week, the episode starts with a recap AND a preview for the upcoming episode that's starting in 30 seconds! Why?! One week, the preview even showed Alexei and Lola in the bottom two. WTF. I'm not a fan of the instructor, Kristy. She's got that instructor voice that sounds like she's talking down to you instead of as a person. Now that Alexei's gone, my remaining favorites are Zac and Loren then Jill who has grown on me recently. I really love how the judges embrace their costumes each week. It's probably my favorite part of the show. The Halloween make-up on this show is fantastic every week. This show is definitely the best of the Halloween shows. It's so much fun.

Agree with everyone on the quality of the maze decorations. I liked Margarita's and her partner's maze the best, but I agree with the critique on the individual treats. I like how all the contestants support each other. There's usually one drama queen contestant which doesn't seem to be the case this season, and it's really nice to be without contestant drama. I was a little distracted during judging because I couldn't get over the fact that Zach had to stand in his costume while tasting and judging. Why would the costume department pick a costume he has to stand in the entire time?! It seems like a pretty basic oversight. I also loved the creativity of the different treats for the hedge mazes. I was worried everyone was going to use cereal treats, but there were some pretty cool ideas!

Kelly also used the "excuse", "I was raped" to try to get out of being in trouble when she got caught falsifying Dwight's and Jim's customer service results because they didn't come to her "America's Got Talent" party. She's pretty much every abhorrent female stereotype in a single character. I never watched the show when it was live either. It's too close to how Corporate America operates. When I was in the middle of sometimes identical situations, it hit too close to home and was only a painful reminder of terrible jobs and terrible bosses. Now that I'm no longer in those situations, I can laugh and find them funny instead of horrifying reminders of my current situation.

Seconded. The contestants in this season are okay to just bad. Even the culinary teacher (I forget her name) is good but okay for an instructor. Comparing this to previous seasons and the differences are fairly large. I really wish John would stop with the "Alexi is Russian" jokes. They're never funny, and it's starting to feel xenophobic at this point.

Guy's Ultimate Game Night - General Discussion
Catfi9ht replied to FormerMod-a1's topic in Guy's Ultimate Game Night
I watched the episode that aired last night with Vivica Fox and the Fox NFL people. My test of whether or not I like a game show is if you can play along at home so this is a 50/50 mix for me. I'm glad I gave it a shot, but this isn't a must watch for me. Guy's mix of friends is so interesting. I can't stand about half and love the other half. I noticed Sophistifunk was the house band. Guy is definitely loyal to his friends which is probably my favorite trait of his. I don't think I've seen another person so into Bro culture but it never seems to translate into toxic masculinity. A first glance, Guy would definitely be the type of person I would work very hard to avoid in real life, but his actual traits and values seem to be antithetical to his outward appearance, and I am here for it. I wish more people into Bro culture were like him. -
I always love the sets on this show (all variations not just Halloween), but this one is really good. The theme is fun and I like the oil paintings of all the contestants. I like this new tradition of having the contestants as part of the set. It seems like they got a big budget increase because the costuming seems more expensive too. I'm glad. I love how into them the judges are. Sometimes, the bits go too long for me. It seemed like it took way too long to explain the suitcase gag. The weird shocked and grossed out reactions the contestants are really forced and expose the worst aspects of reality shows. I wish reality shows would stop that nonsense. Everyone knows it's fake and forced. I didn't agree with the top two at the end, but the right contestant went home so it doesn't really matter. I missed Carla. She's got such a joyful way about her and her critiques are thoughtful without being a snob about food. I noticed a slight personality shift in Stephanie (she was more relaxed and familiar) when it was just the two ladies judging. I wonder what that was about. I'm so glad this show is back. Everyone is so enjoyable to watch.

For season 3, I was looking forward to seeing Regan's communal living idea. We never see anything like that on TV, and they could have brought a bunch of cooky characters together in one place. I also blame Peacock's lack of advertising. I had a mini rant about this in The Resort's board.

Her art show was adult night classes. It wasn't until she got accepted to Pratt that it was a professional art school. It was explained in the episode that her choice and style of art reflected her timid personality. Water color is a pretty finicky technique. It's an additive process, is tricky to mix the colors sometimes, and is prone to bleed through. Her amateur level experience matches the end result. Pam had good work attendance and Jan's recommendation which is all most company education programs would need. If they looked at her past performances too, she probably would have gotten good reviews from Michael because of how he looked at all of his employees family. Mistakes happen. Unforseen events happen. Emergencies happen for every business. Who wouldn't want responsive customer service when you're in a bind? I know I would.

Season 3 is probably my favorite because of the Stamford branch and Pam's independence. Season 2 is second but has some of my favorite individual episodes. The season 4 finale, Goodbye Toby, is their best finale IMO. I thought Holly was terrible at her job but she and Michael were a good match. The actors brought that same dorky energy which made the chemistry believable to me. I never watched The Wire so I wasn't familiar with Amy Ryan before she was on the show. I used to not like season 5, but it's grown on me because of the Michael Scott Paper Company storyline. Pam and Michael both grow as characters and I'm rooting for them to succeed which helps make season 5 watchable for me. Where it goes downhill is the season 6 episode, Mafia, the episode after Jim and Pam's wedding. Not only is it one of the worst episodes, it makes the show unwatchable for me until season 9. I can still tolerate 6 and 7 sometimes, but season 8 is always a no for me. I didn't mind the graphic design thing. I think Jan showed she was desperate to have a good outcome of the meeting so learning that Pam had a talent was her shot at taking a result back to corporate. It's a paper company so they could have a design/printing business too. They already get paper at cost so they could charge a similar cost for the printed item as competitors but still have a wider profit margin. I thought Pam's art they showed during her art school show was fine. The animation she did for Michael's Dunder Mifflin commercial was much improved. Although, I will say Pam's mural at the end of season 9 was not good. I still kind of chuckle during the reveal.

Peacock has some pretty good originals and they're not really advertised much. I just stumbled upon this show browsing and started it because of William Jackson Harper. Other than The Resort, here are my favorites. The Amber Ruffin Show Rutherford Falls We are Lady Parts Killing It Psych 2 and 3 (If you watched Psych the tv show. If not, watch that first.)

Noah and Emma's relationship is so heartbreaking. They had such a tragedy and Noah wants to move on with Emma, but Emma can't move on with Noah. I've seen this happen. One partner wants to use the relationship to repair the grief and trauma, but the other partner is only reminded of the grief and trauma because of the relationship. Lots of good exposition in this episode. It didn't feel long or slow to me. On a superficial note, I don't think I can ever get used to Nick Offerman without a mustache. I thought his jungle explorer look was pretty convincing though. I'd watch a Romancing the Stone remake with him as Michael Douglas's role. I think that would be fun, and he'd be really good at it. Looking forward to how they wrap this up.

I have annual conferences for my industry (IT), and I would never want to hook up with any of the men. No thank you. It's so rare to have an all female interaction in a movie or TV show where they're supporting each other and choosing their own paths. It's such a common thing to want someone else's life because you're viewing it from the outside. You see all the polish but none of the grit. I loved that Teenie and Rita talked it out. Again, a rarity on movies or TV. The "misunderstanding" trope is so outdated. I'm glad we've got entertainment now that's finally moving past some of the terrible tropes. I loved this episode. I loved Jana Schmieding in both this show and Rutherford Falls, and both of her characters are amazing, but Bev is so cool. I would totally want to be her friend.

I don't get this show anymore. The show used to be about vampires who lived in a museum of a mansion, couldn't relate to the modern world, and found humans inanely mundane. This episode turned both the house and the vampires into the very thing they despised at the beginning of the show. The set decoration for that house was stunning and they turned it into some "live laugh love" bullshit. They've dumbed down Nadja to the point where she's unrecognizable. Her big plot line was being excited about having a golden toilet, something she can't use? They might as well add laugh tracks and bring on Chuck Lorre as a showrunner at this point.

I had never heard of this show. It wasn't recommended to me by anything I was watching. I started it on a whim because of William Jackson Harper. Wow. This show is really good. It's funny, weird, and intriguing all at once. Peacock has some really great original shows that they're not publicizing at all. What's up with that? I'm trying not to overanalyze anything. I'm enjoying the ride and want to be surprised for the ending. I am loving the discussion and theories about this show. What a hidden gem of a show.

So Danny's father gets a redemption story last episode and this turn it's Elora's grandmother. I really hate it when entertainment depicts abuse should be forgiven because of a death. Yes, it does happen in real life, but that doesn't make it okay. What it does is dismiss the abuse the victim endured. I absolutely count what Elora's grandmother did to her as abuse because neglect is a form of abuse. I realize this isn't a popular opinion on this forum, but as someone who has experienced abuse I feel I should speak up about how dismissal of these types of actions does not help the victims. It only causes them to feel even more isolated especially if they can't forgive their abusers and they're being pressured to forgive. This happens alot. I'm glad Elora got some type of closure being visited by the spirit of her grandmother, and I hope Bear steps up and becomes a true friend to her. She's really going to need it. Willie Jack and Cheese already do this and are excellent friends, but Elora seems to view them as their own unit and is drawn more to Bear for some reason. The writing for this episode was excellent and felt very true to life and effortless.

I absolutely did not like Daniel's dad getting the fatherly treatment this episode. He abused his family and was probably one of the main factors why Daniel committed suicide. As someone who grew up in an abusive household, it feels pretty dismissive of what he did. I have such a crush on Dallas Goldtooth. He's a scene stealer as the spirit in this show and is a great addition to Rutherford Falls season 2. The characters are very different but just as funny. His comedic timing is excellent.
