  1. I went back to watch some missed scenes from last night and noticed that when Rebecca is in the Chinese restaurant panicking about losing her phone, she says she needs to call "her son". This show uses a lot of subtle ambiguity to throw off the viewer. Since Randall had been calling her frequently during the Philly Thanksgiving day out, they want us to think she's looking to call Randall when she gets lost at the Chinese restaurant. Really, she's in the Poconos somewhere trying to get to the cabin where Kate & Kevin are celebrating. We find out that Kevin (maybe everyone?) isn't talking to Randall. I think that when Rebecca is saying she needs to call her son, she's actually talking about Kevin.
  2. The cabin is in the Poconos -which is in far NE Pennsylvania people and where Uncle Nicky lives is waaayyyyyy western PA, like bordering Ohio. Probably at least 5-6 hours away. Honestly, given that they are in the Poconos at Labor Day, the trench doesn't alarm me. What does is that there's supposedly a park and a walkable Chinese place somewhere close to a cabin in the Poconos. My family has one and trust me, you don't walk anywhere but to your neighbors' houses. At least where our cabin is, anyway, but the Poconos is pretty folksy. 3. But the 40th birthday get together is at the Poconos cottage, right? It's pretty chilly up in the Poconos by Labor Day weekend, which is when the B3's birthday is.
  4. I loved this episode. It touched on the past over several decades, explained a few things, included some present day stuff, and helped make a few characters more likable and understood. Does anyone else struggle with Teen/College Randall casting? He's the only character I can't see as older. I think for younger Randall they nailed it. For young Beth - perfection. For the younger and high/middle school Kevin and Kate - totally. But that actor for teen Randall...I just can't 'see it no matter how hard I squint.
  5. He's not a newborn in the scenes depicted here. He's around 6 months old. And for sure, there are developmental milestones over the first year of life that are overwhelming even for sighted and hearing children. Gaining awareness of self and the world during the first year of life is nothing less than mind blowing and shocking to a baby. To take away a major sense but still have these wild milestones - yeah, this baby is going to ry more than a typical baby with all senses. Bottom line, it's well within the chracter/scenario for this baby to react crying to things typical. babies might enjoy. Also, the Cassidy character is a natural looking, normal woman. Additionally, she's been in a war environment and is suffering ptsd. So, I think it's pretty in character that she's not made up. Not everything is commercial ready and that's what I love about this show. It's real
  6. Totally! Maybe even "Rebecca would never let me feed this to these guys - now's my chance to show them my 'specialty'"...bite...whoa that is not how I remember them. Haha. We saw Jack have the kids order pizza at this age in a past episode - when he snuck off to see Nicky - so obviously he resorts to that sometimes. I think it was just a silly way of pivoting him to realizing he missed Rebecca more than he was letting on.
  7. I think the second photo in that link is bogus. Holy yeah, that after photo is all kinds of doctored. The weight loss is definitely more subtle than this before/after but I follow Chrissy Metz on instagram and I've been noticing for several months her slimming down in her posts.
  8. I took this moment to mean that Beth finds what the owner says to be cruel and nasty and that she can serve her students better if she is the owner of her own studio. It also could have made it clear that she has the chops to own a studio for these hobby dancers even if she never went pro.
  9. I thought Nicky's make up was much more realistic to his age than Rebecca's, who I thought looked too young! If my logic holds up, if this is 10 years in the future, Nicky is 77 and if 15, 82. This is based on him being 18 in the 1969 draft lottery. Rebecca is around his age, maybe slightly younger according to other clues we've been given. Also, if she has been suffering from Alzheimer's or dementia long enough to be bed ridden, she will have aged more. Diseases of the brain can have a tremendous effect on the body over time.
  10. I found an interview where Fogelman implies that the flash-forward is 15 years in the future, so I think that's our best bet. I agree with the speculation that the only reason we haven't seen Kate is because they don't want to lock the character into Chrissy's current weight. It sounds to me like she and Toby aren't together anymore - but I wouldn't be surprised to see them get back together in the end. The only reason I have been assuming the flash forward is ten years ahead is because in the last few moments of the season 2 finale, Randall's speech at Kate's wedding is played over several future scenes, including some of the ones we are speculating about now. In the one where it shows Older Randall for the first time ever - the "it's time to go see her" line, Randall's speech says "or TEN years from now" at the precise moment that we see Randall's face. It could just be an instrument to let the viewer know that we're now in the future, but it sticks with me. I also think Kate is absent from these scenes because of weight/body. Toby's actor wears a larger body suit to make him bigger but Chrissy Metz is true to the size of Kate. You can't trim her so I assume we're going to see additional weight loss from Chrissy over the next year(s). She's already down quite a lot from season 1, to my untrained eye.
