  1. What a stupid decision by CBS. The ratings were good - from the Deadline article:

    Quote

In most current linear Nielsen viewership (2/12 to date), CSI: Vegas, which improved its time period, is at #21 among all non-sports broadcast programs with 6.234M viewers and So Help Me Todd at #22 with 6.224M. That is more than a slew of series on other broadcast networks that have been safely renewed for next season, including ABC’s Will Trent, The Rookie and Grey’s Anatomy and NBC’s Law & Order, The Voice and The Irrational.

They cancelled this show to make room for dumb new shows including yet another NCIS show.

    Fuck CBS.

Dear God this is hands down the worst season of Survivor I've ever seen.  What is going on???   I hate all of these players, and I'm simultaneously annoyed/bored to tears.

The season has really focused on the most odious players. It was all Bhanu all the time while he was still there, and now it's all Q all the time.

Meanwhile, despite his obvious challenge prowess, I feel like we hear next to nothing from Hunter. Same with Ben. They're like background characters on The Q Show.

I think the family is being too hard on Allison. Her personal life is a total mess, but she does have her professional life under control. She is great at the hospital and what is happening in her personal life seems to have minimal or no impact on her medical career. I wish her family would give her more credit for that.

I think it's pretty obvious the family is somewhat dysfunctional. Margaret is hyper critical of all three of her children. Even golden boy Lawrence isn't immune to her criticism, as we learned in this episode. (What did she say he dresses like? A mortician?) And the three siblings squabble and snipe like any other siblings. At the end of the day they do support each other though, like how Todd gave Lawrence the balloon, or the nice talk he and Allison had last week.

E.T.A. OMG I just read the show's been cancelled!!! BOOOO!

I loved that line. But I wonder if it would have really taken two months to get from New York to Michigan even back in the horse and buggy days. They must have made an awful lot of stops along the way.

Nitpicky things that detracted from an otherwise perfect episode...  how does one strangle oneself?

Also, how did killing herself save  Hetty's son from financial ruin?

I'm not clear on her manner of death either. I initially assumed she hanged herself and that maybe the cord snapped, otherwise (according to what we know of ghost rules and people staying the way there were when they died) you'd think the extended part would be hanging from her neckline. But maybe she's able to wind it around herself to hide it.

As for Hetty's son, the lawyer said the authorities could confiscate their money and property if she was convicted. Since Thomas himself could not be charged with any crime, there was no danger of that. I assume once Thomas inherited the business he had to comply with the law and fire the children.

I usually root against the teams that run an dominant game, constantly leaving others in the dust, because that tends to be boring. But this time, I would be fine with a victory by the ex-Cops or the Dating Twins. At least they're running a RACE. And I hope Sunny and Bizzy can join them in the finals, because they are ALSO RACING.

? The only ex-cops were Derek and Shelisa and the just got eliminated. Do you mean Juan and Shane? They are air force pilots. And dating twins? The only twins were Anthony and Bailey. Or do you mean Ricky and Cesar, because they look very similar? I finally figured out which is which, Ricky is the shorter one. Or do you mean Yvonne and Melissa who are also dating? I haven't figured out which one is which on that team yet. I suspect it won't matter much longer.

How big is this school Mark is attending, and do they only have 1 cafeteria?  Darlene mentioned having 12 employees/coworkers.  Harris only had to make 250(?) hamburgers, which wouldn’t go far in a college cafeteria.

I guess I was under the impression the cafeteria was in a specific dorm, not a cafeteria for an entire college. That's how it worked at my college. Or, at least, it's one of a few cafeterias where the dorms are located.

When did Margaret’s sister Patty first show up? I’m not sure I remember her in previous episodes

Yeah I didn't really remember her either, although I recognize the actress from other things. The brief "previously" clip at the beginning wasn't much help either.

It was nice to see Lawrence again, and to see another side of him. I liked the ending where he just let the balloon go instead of popping it since he decided it didn't matter. I kind of had a feeling that's where it was going to go, but there was a deliberate misdirect with them playing "Over the Rainbow" during that scene.

So glad Todd decided to ask Judy out (although she answered a little too quickly, LOL). She's cute and they make a nice pair. Although having her dressed like Dorothy at the costume party was perhaps one gay stereotype too far.

  8. OMG this episode was everything. I'll be honest, I thought the season started off a little shaky but these last three episodes really hit it out of the park.

First off, the flashbacks to 1895 were hysterical - especially finding out that Hetty's phone number was 4. "Let me read that back to you." And then she actually got a wrong number. "I believe you want 2. This is 4." I'm still cracking up.

And yet . . . one of the most dramatic moments this series has ever done. I gasped out loud when Hetty pulled down her collar and we saw the cord and the rope burns around her neck. I wasn't expecting that at all, even as she was pulling the phone cord out of the wall I kept thinking it must have something to do with the well. My God this show deserves an Emmy. Fuck the Emmys.

I still feel a little cheated by the Ralph/Flower switcheroo, but I love this show so much I'm willing to give it a pass. And Nancy's explanation was classic Nancy anyway. (And Ralph never thought her would be as happy as when he got to try an orange.)

Interesting that Sam can't see the ghosts on the phone. They did something similar on the UK show but in that variation, Allison was able to hear them over the phone.

An uncapped well is definitely a hazard!

It really wouldn't be, except for maybe little kids. But a ghost would fall right through the rock formation around it. Otherwise, having an old timey wishing well on the property might be considered quaint for a B&B. (LOL at Flower heading right back for it after a butterfly after finally being rescued.

I can't wait for next week!

    Spoiler

    Pete can leave the property??!!

I do think this is partly producer driven since we have seen time and time again the crew helping the chef when needed.  I don't think I have seen anyone help him at all this season.

I don't see how this could be "producer driven." I can't see the production folks telling everyone "Don't help Anthony! Let him suffer, it's funnier that way!" In the first place it affects everyone's tip if the guests don't like their food so I can't see everyone going along with it. In the second place it doesn't serve Anthony or his future career to be made the fool and not ask for help if he needs it. Finally, you've got Captain Kerry going around checking toilet paper corners and sink stoppers, and he's smart enough to shut down Fraser's hard-on to fire Barbie, so I don't see him just letting this business with the chef go on if there were any earthly thing he could do to fix it.

I honestly don't understand why anyone finds it so hard to believe Anthony simply isn't cut out for this line of work and is in over his head. By his own admission he is dyslexic and that might be why he has so much trouble regarding the preference sheets. Getting crew members to wash dishes or chop vegetables isn't going to fix that (and just because we haven't seen them doing that doesn't mean they aren't.)

RE: Fraser and whether he should be more help, he could certainly step in and insist he plan every meal with the chef, I suppose, but even I would hesitate to do that in his position because it's basically saying "you can't do your job so I need to take over." It's not going to make Anthony look any better if he needs Fraser to double check everything he does to make sure he gets it right.

You think the soccer players get fined for trying to kill Angie?

I kind of wondered if the other players went easy on her because of her obviously advanced age. I mean, I don't know how she could have nearly passed out just sitting in a hot car but had no trouble running around in a plastic bubble.

don't mind alliances on The Amazing Race that much. I was less against the Mine Five than a lot of people. At least on this season, I can see how it benefits these particular teams to work together.

This is particularly true because they keep starting the leg in groups. If you are in a group of three and you know there is another group of three starting behind you, then it makes sense to keep your own group together so the trailing group stays behind you. It's the natural (and perhaps unfortunate) side effect of grouping teams like this.

How did Bizzy and Dizzy manage to get themselves into 3rd place at one point then fall back to finishing second to last again?

Mostly because they got shut out of the meat Detour. I know this really pissed a lot of people off (not the least of which were Sunny and Bizzy) but I have to give kudos to Danny for seeing the loophole and taking advantage of it. Hey, if it's not against the rules it's not against the rules. Blame the game not the player. (To this day there are people who thought it was hilarious when Boston Rob hid all the other clues.)

I'm still trying to figure out if Q wanted out or some sort of plan to try to change the vote off of Tevin and on someone else.

Given his previous request to be voted off Yanu instead of Bhanu, I just think he's a quitter and a sore loser. He said himself in this episode the only game he's interested in playing is one he controls. He has either controlled every prior vote or at least thought he did. This is the first time the vote wasn't under his control.

Interesting we are now dead even with three former Yanu, three Nami and three Siga. I wonder if it even matters anymore.

  12. There's been a lot of discussion about Dan's mortgage during the run of this show. At the time Dan and Roseanne bought that house, it couldn't have been much more than around 50K. I know they took out a second mortgage when they opened the bike shop, but who knows what's canon anymore. At any rate, even then it would have been far less than 100K. It's been well over 30 years since then and mortgages don't last longer than that.

The pension thing is confusing too. Dan only worked briefly fixing city vehicles before he quit that job to take a job drywalling a new prison, which made him self-employed again. But again, canon? Who knows.

The woman who played Darlene's boss was on "Jury Duty" (hilarious series on Amazon Prime). I'd never seen her before that show but lately she's been everywhere. Looks like she got a lot of work as a result of that show.

  13. I don't usually care for Chihuahuas but the one Frank was carrying around was awfully cute with his little tongue sticking out. Despite Frank's rather abrasive personality he does really seem to like dogs.

There's no way Frank or Shred could have caught up with that bunny on the ice the way they were slipping around.

I had a feeling that Victoria's secret admirer was going to turn out to be Templeton for some reason. I just had an inkling the "reveal" would have to be someone we already knew and since it wasn't Frank that really narrowed it down.

I'm surprised  the alliances are allowed  to literally help do the puzzles and chat with their  alliance, at one time that wouldn't  have been allowed.

It's always been permissible to help another team at a Roadblock. It's just counter-intuitive to do so. I can understand why a team would want to, though, under certain circumstances, because keeping a weaker team in the race improves your chances of not coming in last.

I'm not really feeling this season though, and it has nothing to do with all the collaborating. I just don't find the cast very compelling. There's no team I'm particularly rooting for, as opposed to last season where I had at least two teams I was really rooting for. This season? Meh. I don't really care.

Also, whether it's group starts or alliances, there just isn't much in the way of placement shake-ups from leg to leg. The top five from the last leg stayed the top five this leg: Juan and Shane from 2nd to 1st, Ricky and Cesar from 1st to 2nd, Rod and Leticia from 5th to 3rd, Amber and Vinny from 3rd to 4th, Angie and Danny from 4th to 5th. Meanwhile Yvonne and Melissa, Sunny and Bizzy and Derek and Shelisa remained 6th, 7th and 8th.

Q is the  star of his own show about a brilliant, self-sacrificing hero.

Unfortunately, Q is also the star of this show. I feel like I'm watching The Q Show every week, and I'm sick to death of it. I can't decide if he's getting this much screen time because the producers love what a "character" he is . . . or if he is going to win. And yes, I still think that's a possibility, even after this week. If he's in the final three with, say, Venus and Liz? He has a real shot at winning.

I get that some people might find Q amusing, which is undoubtably why we're seeing so much of him. But I am not amused. I find him insufferable and the incessant focus on him is ruining the season for me.

Some people - like me! - turn bright red and get drenched with sweat just stepping outside. I always looked dreadful, but it never had a thing to do with how fit I was.

  19. This Roadblock just seems like a puzzle test. I'm not even sure going around the track again and again helps. You just have to be good (and fast) at puzzles.

It's a wonder Angie's made it this far if she's this out of shape.

I don't dislike Danny, but man, his voice is like nails on a chalkboard.

I wondered that too.  Seems like they ought to be able to leave them in the cars.

Isn't there a rule they have to have their papers on them at all times? Probably easier keeping everything together.
