I'm not a long time watcher of the show. When a white subject has "deep Southern roots" and a DNA test, but no mention is made of black relations, does that just mean they couldn't find any?

It might mean that they didn't look for any, or that they couldn't find any, or that there aren't any, or that they DID find someone, but for whatever reason didn't include it on the show. I don't think we can draw any conclusions from the absence of any reference.

as for the 'false science' of bite marks, aren't sometimes bodies identified by dental records?  Does this mean that such identification isn't always valid too?

The dental records would show where there were fillings, etc., which is way more specific than a bite impression on a bologna sandwich.

  3. And they didn't even go into the arson "evidence" issue. Texas executed a man based upon already discredited "evidence" of arson (the fire was almost certainly accidental) for a fire that killed his children:

Trump probably heard on FOX News that a senator was in the hospital. Not that it would have mattered, they didn't have 50 votes even WITH the "missing" senator. Math is not the Trump family's strong suit:

They may have come up with a plausible medical reason, except.....to be a ghost don't you have to be dead first?  So how can he appear as a ghost if he is actually alive?

But he's not a ghost, he's a hallucination! In Lucas' conversation with "Will," it's clear that he's in Lucas' mind, not a ghost.

  5. I'll try to avoid spoilers, but I've finished the season. I'm not sure where they'll be going with next season (if there is one).

I WOULD fast forward through the torture scenes, but TNT On Demand won't let me. :(

The anachronistic glam-rock vibe is okay with me, but I liked REIGN as well. This really feels like a CW show. Perhaps they passed and that's why it's on TNT?

  6. Since there's only a topic for the pilot, and none for any of the other episodes, I thought it would make more sense to have a catch-all topic vs. individual episode topics. They're all available on TNT On Demand and I've been working my way through them. I think I'm up to episode #9.

I have no idea what Marlowe was really like, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't what we're being shown here. Nonetheless, he's entertaining.

I like the plot about the fate of the theater, but really don't like the "inquisitor" plot or the cousin. Too much torture, and sanctimonious hypocrisy. Will's interaction with his wife and kids was pretty good, but his relationship with Alice is not very believable.

Tripp is officially shitty.  Upping someone's dosage so they'll die and Kayla can be blamed?  Yeah, I'm more than sure he'll bear the brunt of things when shit hits the fan.

He's shitty, but didn't kill anyone. He changed the chart of the already dead patient to make it look like Kayla's medication order killed him. (This completely ignores the fact that there would be a nurse's note in the chart showing the actual dose that was administered.)

OK, but the actress doesn't want to come back.  So if the actress isn't coming back, how is any of that going to happen?

I'm sorry that JL doesn't want to come back, but there's nothing stopping them from recasting the role and bring (Jeannie) Theresa Donovan back to the show. There are a lot of unresolved plot threads for her.

Damn, Taystee... Yeah, she made a big mistake. Fig was right for once: MCC can't send Bayley's to prison.  Otoh, I don't understand why Poussey's dad wouldn't want to sue everyone.

The relationship between Fig and Caputo is absolutely horrid and I can't get enough of it. What's wrong with me?

Loved that Nicky called Lorna's husband. I didn't quite understand his reaction when Lorna told him she was pregnant and tbh, I never considered the possibility that he might be thinking she was lying or delusional. I'm glad to see he's willing to do the right thing. At the same time, Nicky's take on Lorna was a bit, well, idealized.

Fig is representing the governor and the state dept. of corrections, not MCC. But even the governor doesn't control the court system.

Before starting to watch this season, if I had been told that Aubry, Cirie, and Sarah would be the final three, I would not expect Sarah to get even one vote at FTC.  I would be basing my assumption on her gameplay in her previous season, just as I would for Aubry and Cirie.

I feel that many viewers this season want to reward Aubry for Kaôh Rōng and/or Cirie for Micronesia.  The problem for Aubry is that early on she had often been left out of the voting loop and currently she has had little input on who should be voted out next.  She is frustrated almost to the point of tears in some of her THs.

Cirie is having quite a bit of influence, as usual.  Her big blunder was at this last TC but had it worked, she would have had quite a story at the end, along with pointing out where she had manipulated others in the game.  Her only problem is the same one she had in Micronesia.  She absolutely must win the final 4 immunity challenge because no-one is going to take her to the end.

Now, if Aubry, Cirie, and Sarah are in the final three, I believe that the jury could vote for Cirie out of respect for her current gameplay but would value Sarah’s game over Aubry’s in this season.  IMO Sarah’s gameplay has clearly improved over her last time out while Aubry’s has not.

In a fascinating twist, Cirie's "blunder" in the last episode may actually save her. She'll look a lot less threatening now. So if she doesn't win immunity at final four, they might target someone else who seems a bigger threat (like Sarah or Brad). Tai and Troy are clearly goats, and Aubrey looks like one, too. But I think Sarah will target Aubrey, who she doesn't trust, rather than Cirie, but who knows what Sarah's next "big move" will be? So depending upon who is in the final four and who uses idols, she could make to the final.

  11. On this week's episode of IMAGINARY MARY, there was a STRANGER THINGS reference. The title character is banished to a dark place with water on the ground and she calls out for Alice and then "Barb" (there is no Barb in the show).

  12. I didn't like the blank verse. It was as if the playwright was screaming "Shakespeare" at the top of his lungs! Not only shades of MacBeth, but also King Lear. The acting was great, and the basic premise seemed sound, but the way it played out seemed totally unrealistic to me.

And where was Prince Andrew in all of this?

I still remember TPS from THE JEWEL IN THE CROWN. A great actor who will be sorely missed. This was a good way to go out if there aren't any other unreleased performances.

Trump isn't going to get "his fingers on the nukes". You don't just push a button unilaterally. If anything, the argument is that the secretary of defense won't let it happen. He's the actual sane adult and Trump will back right down.

But if Trump keeps goading Kim, N. Korea might strike first, and THEN Trump could easily launch a retaliatory nuclear strike and start WW III. Sleep well...

Yep, my mother smoked all the way through 3 pregnancies in the early 60s.  People didn't really know back then.

Actually, they did know. In an earlier season we saw Patrick give up smoking after reading a journal article (and losing a patient to smoking-related illness).

I was shocked Isaac was killed. Is Luis gone for good, I wonder? The past 2 seasons, there seemed to be a centralized theme the rest of the season revolved around (the murder of the young service man, then the possible rape of Connor Jessup's character). I cannot quite figure out what this season's main storyline is.

I think the main storyline is slavery. The farm workers are essentially slaves to the owners. The teen prostitutes are slaves to their pimps. The Haitian nanny is a slave to her employers, etc. (And murder.)

OK, this is bugging me, would Emma really have had sex with her boyfriend (the Dentist, I forget his name) a good southern girl, even in a time of war, wouldn't have pre-marital sex would she? I am still staying with the show despite some of the glaring anachronisms.

A "good" girl wouldn't, but there was plenty of extramarital sex going on, particularly in wartime.

That said, everything non Greene family was much better.  (I really do enjoy the show despite any snark.)  Against my better judgment I am starting to like Hale.  I knew he was winging it a lot, but I had no idea he was not a real doctor.  Seems he and Foster have found common purpose in wanting to practice without the interference of McBurney.  I did like the silliness of the electric quack.

Next week's cliche will be the increasingly insane administrator terrorizing the good hearted staff of the hospital.  I betcha right now he ends up killing himself.

I think Hale is a "real" doctor, but just hasn't taken a test required by the US Army to be a doctor in the army.
