  1. As a Panther fan and Cam Newton fan (though I have to admit his time was up and he probably just needs to retire. The Teddy Bridgewater signing makes me scratch my head) I’m glad he got signed to another team. His social media was all but throwing pity parties practically begging any team to sign him (that is if you can manage to read through his asinine symbols he uses is replace of actual letters). However as a life long Patriot hater this still won’t make me root for them.

  2. I am beyond excited today! Our puppy was born! We lost our Jack Russell 2 years ago at the age of 15. A month prior we lost our kitty also aged 15. The following months I also lost my grandpa and my husbands grandma passed away. Shortly after we got a new kitty who ended up passing away a month or so later due to some rare disease. My sons hamster also died so we put the breaks on getting any animals for a while.

We’ve now been successful for over a year with owning a kitty cat and I still cry everyday over our dog that we had to put to sleep. Never thought I’d be able to love a dog again. Ive been following a reputable Jack Russell breeder online since we lost our first one and I think I’m ready to do it! I believe ours will be the one with the single black spot on his back. He was born today and we get to meet him in 8 weeks! We are so excited and I hope this is what finally helps heal my broken heart!

  3. Man- I was only half paying attention tonight but my kid is doing a virtual school project on someone famous from history and we just finished up all his research today. His famous person was Wayne Gretzky so I got that one right.
I stopped paying attention after that for a bit because I was busy looking up mid century modern fabrics to use for a duvet cover when final Jeopardy popped up. When I announced my second pregnancy in 2011 I used the phrase “enceinte” because I am a huge Lucy fan! Good night for me!

Through all of this bullshit, no one at Spectrum offered me any kind of credit on my bill. Virtually anyone else with whom I do business (except the power company, probably) would have duked me a little something if they had screwed up to even a degree of what Spectrum did. I'm not surprised they didn't, because it's par for the course.

To make a long story short, at the beginning of the year we parted ways with our business partner to go out on our own. We moved business operations into our home which meant we had to cease a lot of the services we were receiving at our office location in town. Part of that was cancelling our cable subscription with Spectrum but we wanted to keep internet and phone services at the office location for the other business owner. Spectrum told my husband that it would be cheaper to keep the cable than to cancel it. If we cancelled the cable but kept phone and internet the bill would go up by about $25. Makes no sense unless you look at it like they need to keep the cable customer numbers high because of all the competition with streaming. Which also makes one think they wouldn't want to piss off their cable customers and send them running elsewhere. So, the current owner of the business at our old office is paying for cable, internet, and phone but has no TV.

I applaud your willingness to play musical chairs every two years, but you succinctly outlined my pet peeve: "They'll do anything to get you in the door but nothing to keep you." I would commit to a lifetime contract with the phone/internet/cable service that would always guarantee me their best rate.

I'm actually really happy with Dish right now and might not switch providers when my contract is up. I've thought about cutting the cord completely and visited my Aunt and Uncle back in October who were using YouTube Tv and was quite impressed with what it offered. An antenna doesn't work where we live and I would miss getting to watch my local channels (news, Jeopardy, Sports) which is the main reason I keep cable. But with YouTube TV they were able to watch football games and current programming.

I dreamed about this mess all night. I've decided I'm just going to get the internet turned back on and forget about the TV channels. I'm going to see about getting new service with a different provider at my boyfriend's. He currently has service with that provider, but I can get a much better/cheaper deal with new service. I don't want to give Spectrum any more money.

Unfortunately for us we don't have any other option but Spectrum for internet but I routinely switch my cable provider every two years in order to get the best deals. They'll do anything to get you in the door but nothing to keep you. I'm currently with Dish for cable but in December my contract is up and I'll be back to shopping around for the best deal.

  6. We had a mini spring break trip planned for Gatlinburg at the beginning of the month but had to cancel it of course. We go once a year but usually just for the day since it’s an hour away from us. This time we were going to splurge and rent a cabin. Anyhow, one year my 6 year old was really into Titanic so we went to the Titanic museum and followed that up with Wonderworks where the Bates family went. I also had a 1 1/2 year old in a stroller at the time and we almost didn’t make it through the door because she freaked the hell out at that dizzy bridge thing they showed them all walking through at the beginning with all the lights. We managed to make it through it’s actually a pretty cool place 🙂

I'm hoping y'all can help me out: I'm looking for good true crime podcasts, either limited series going deep into one or a few subjects, or series where it's more one-offs on each topic.  The series I've tried so far are Crime Junkies, My Favorite Murder, and Last Podcast on the Left.  I like Crime Junkies the best, they actually seem to research their topics.  But, they don't delve super deep and some of the stories seem like a reach to make a whole episode.  And, I got a little turned off because they were drawing some goofy conclusions that didn't make sense to me.  But, I've listened to a bunch of episodes, I just am looking for a bit of a deeper dive. My Favorite Murder, I really wanted to like it.  But the vocal fry on one of the women was too much, and didn't seem like they really researched their topics.  Like one story, they weren't sure if it happened in Toronto or Quebec.  Finally, holy shit, Last Podcast on the Left.  I didn't even make it through a single episode.  It seemed like there might be well researched stories in there, but damn, it was WAY too manic.

So, I was wondering if y'all had some favorites you might recommend?

I agree with your assessment on most of these. Crime Junkie still seems to be my favorite despite the negatives you mention. One I listen to that is "fun" in a morbid way is called Unsolved Murders: True Crime Stories. The downside for me is that they are of course unsolved and I like to have closure on these types of things. What makes it "fun" is that they have a cast that acts out the plot so it's a bit different then your typical Crime Podcast.

  8. We own a small business. Labor intensive. My husband does all the work so no employees and we don’t pay ourselves.  Our business has been in operation for 10 years but due to a toxic relationship between my husband and his mother we had to split the company at the end of last year. We let her keep the existing company name and we took on a new name. She got $3,000 from the loan program and naturally we got nothing. Thankfully (or not) we took out a HELOC on our home in order to float us financially when we split the company so we have money to get by but because our line of work requires home visits and installs people are pushing off work until the crisis is over.

    Hmmm...

Also, why the hell is Cam typing like this?

He always types like that. It’s annoying AF!

I just hope with this news that Tom Brady stays far away from the Panthers! I’d hate to not be able to support them next season!

  10. Not sure where best to post at this point but I just finished this episode.

I found this show on Netflix last summer and it took me a while to get through season 1. I finally did and was hooked. Lucky for me my cable provider is offering a free preview of Starz this weekend so I was able to download all of season 4 for free!

I am of Scottish decent. Even know what clan I’m from so this is a really interesting watch for me. On top of that, I live in Asheville, NC (used to live in Wilmington, NC) about 30 minutes from Grandfather mountain and 45 minutes from Cherokee, NC which is the nearest Cherokee native reservation. They do a wonderful outdoor drama called Unto These Hills about this very subject in the summertime. I have not been as an adult (my youngest child is 3 and I want to wait until she is a bit older to go). It’s very moving.

The CGI in this season is killing me. You can tell they try to portray the Appalachian mountains in the scenic shots. More specifically in the shot of Jamie and Claire from the credits it looks like they are trying to make it look like a view of Lake Lure which is not near Grandfather Mountain. In the woodsy shots it’s very clearly not our mountains because our trees just don’t look like that.

They did get the wildlife references correct though. Bears are a regular occurrence here and I’ve accidentally come face to face with one too many in my lifetime. Our winters are cold but we aren’t all that snowy. We’ve been in a snow drought as a matter of fact only just receiving our first snowfall of the winter two days ago.

Asheville just hosted its first indoor Highland games last weekend which I attended with my family. It was a lot of fun! The massive Highland games are this summer at Grandfather Mountain which we will be attending as well.

Last season was kind of a miss for me but it makes sense now seeing the trajectory season 4 is taking.

I find it kind of odd that there hasn’t been much discussion on the many Aaron Hernandez stories that have aired in the past month. Did I miss a forum topic? Anyway, I’ve sat through the Oxygen Channel one from two years ago, the ID 2-parter, and a random one on a little channel (Reelz? HLN?) called How It Really Happened. I feel like if they were all mashed together it would be an excellent complete story. Some focused on the police investigation & the surveillance footage, some looked at the gay angle, some at the CTE situation. I felt like a learned just a bit more with each special.

I’m thinking I should finish off with the Netflix series and rest comfortably knowing everything there is to know about this man and be done with it.

I watched the Netflix one which sent me down a rabbit hole. I found a podcast it was based on  Gladiator and listened to that as well. I wasn’t completely aware of what all happened with him as this occurred during my true crime sabbatical (I was having babies and couldn’t deal with it). It’s my opinion that homeboy was definitely unhinged but probably would have been CTE or not.

Im a pro football fan (don’t follow college) so I got a kick upon finding out he, Tebow and Cam Newton were all on the Florida Gators at the same time. I’m a Panther fan.

I think so, too.  I still don't know who I'm rooting for - there are players and coaches on each time I like and dislike, and fundamental things about each team I like and dislike - but I'm still excited for the game, because I think it's going to consist of some really good football.

Same. The rest of my family is pulling for KC because of the 50 year drought thing. I want to pull for the Niners because of Garoppolo always being in Tom Brady’s shadow and I despise Tom Brady but part of me feels like pulling for them is almost the same as pulling for the Patriots so I don’t know. I’m conflicted.

Man.... just read the news that my favorite player for the Panthers since Smitty is retiring. Luke Kuechly. Ugh! He was a beast and only 28 but suffered quite a few concussions so I get it. But damn! I suspect Greg Olsen is next. With all new coaching staff there’s not likely to be any recognizable names on the team next season.

And I called it. Olsen’s out. Not officially retired but “parted ways”. Ugh. So sad about my team right now.

  14. I don’t care about the ponytail. I still rock one when my hair is long enough. Usually I keep it too short for a pony.

I can’t get down with any one singing or knocking off any version of “My Favorite Things” except for Julie. I change the station every time that song comes on the radio.

side note: if it was up to me I’d only listen to true crime podcasts but they aren’t always appropriate in the car with my kids. My oldest is into music and we listen to top 40 together. It’s the only reason I’m here tonight.

    Eta: that and Lizzo.

I am not her demographic but honestly I am 59 and if there had been more body-positive girls like her when I was struggling as a teenager, things would have been different for me.

I don’t think I’m her demographic either. 35 with three kids. But I love my flute and old school rap which is what she reminds me of. Plus her voice is killer! I generally like people to be covered up. Fat, skinny, in between. But I appreciate her body positive image that she preaches. Everyone should feel comfortable in their own skin. And again..... FLUTE!!!!!

  16. Well damn! I didn’t have a dog in the fight but was hoping for a Titans win. I guess I’ll pull for the 49ers only because I feel like Garappolo has been sitting in Tom Brady’s shadow for so long he deserves a win.

Leading up to the Packers game my neighbors kept adding new Packers lawn ornaments to their yard every day. We don’t speak but I imagine if I opened the door right now I could hear them crying.

I was pulling for San Francisco but damn- I didn’t want the Packers to go out like that. Brutal!

I really like Matt Shively (RIP, The Real O'Neals) but Lonnie has to go. I know this is a sadly realistic portrayal of a social media star but he's just obnoxious.

I did get a kick out of all the spoiled rich kids calling the help line because their Porsche was the wrong color or whatever.

Thank you! Could not remember where I knew him from! Yea- certainly don't care for his character here.

I haven't been watching this just because I have so many things to watch. I've been recording them and watched 7 episodes over the weekend. There aren't many sitcoms I watch but this one is still watchable for me.

  20. I try to make it to one pro football game per year with my dad. We both pull for the Panthers since that’s our home team. My dad is a long time Redskins fan since childhood so ideally I try and get tickets for Panthers vs Skins. That didn’t work out this year so we went to the Titans game where the Panthers won. Since my most hated teams are out (Pats and Saints) I’m really pulling for the Titans to make it all the way! Tennessee is like 20 minutes from me so they are almost a “home” team. I couldn’t believe they pulled out the win last night!

We were under sever weather warnings all night and the local weather station was complete bullshit. Like, couldn’t even watch the game. They did do a split screen for part of the game but the announcers were muted so all you could hear was the weather report. They had their asses handed to them on Facebook for what it’s worth.

I totally thought the Texans had the win this afternoon. Can’t believe the turn of events in that game!

ETA: I’m looking forward to the Redskins next season with Rivera as coach. I don’t follow college ball so have no clue who Rhule is but I feel like the Skins got the better deal there. Now, what are the Panthers going to do about QB? I swear if it’s Brady- I quit!

  21. I just got back from taking my three kids (2 boys ages 10 & 7 and my daughter who is 3. She seemed bored about midway through and there were some frightening parts for her. The boys actually seemed to really enjoy it. My 10 year old was OBSESSED with Frozen when he was about 3 or 4 but somehow I managed to never watch the first one until yesterday in preparation for going today to see the sequel.

The first one definitely had better music but I did enjoy the opening number of this one. I also loved the look of the giants! I was glad to get some back story on the parents. Having just watched the original I wondered if I missed an explanation as to what happened to them because it seemed like they just disappeared off the face of the earth. My son later explained that there was a small explanation in the first movie but not much of one.

I loved Elsa’s horse and the cinematography was absolutely gorgeous. Santa was already planning on bringing my 3 year old some Frozen swag for Christmas (she loves the original and asks Alexa to play the soundtrack frequently so she can dance) so I wanted to make sure we made it to see this one before Christmas.

I will say that the last movie we saw in theaters was How to Train Your Dragon 3 and she was much more captivated by that one.

I'm glad you mentioned allergies.  I thought of peanut allergy also, as it seems so widespread today.  As a result, do kids still eat PB sandwiches?  Maybe most kids still have no allergy, but then they are restricted from taking the sandwiches to school.

My kids go to a Peanut free school. But on weekends they live off of PB&J sandwiches. Still-I have no desire to purchase the pump.

And who lets a kid have a lock on their bedroom door?  Maybe later, but ten is too young

We live in an old house where none of the doors have locks (we did install locks on the bathroom doors). My kid slammed his door too many times for my liking so I took the door of its hinges until he could get his shit together.

I don’t hit my children but I’m still stronger than them and my kids know I will physically pick them up and put them where I need them to be if they aren’t listening (I lift weights for the health benefits but also so my kids don’t think they can over power me)!

Also good idea about getting the kid involved in something that isn’t Brandi’s thing!

I also agree that Kari is on this show so she can get a divorce. Her husband is hot though! I don’t make money outside of the home but my husband never tries to control what I spend money on. The money he makes is for our family not just him and I’ve never got the impression that Karys husband feels any different. I think it’s just her insecurity and her meal tickets (kids) growing up and heading off to college that have her wanting her own money.
