  1. Yet another episode that resonated with me.I work at a Charter school and it’s not lost on me  that we have some advantages over the public school system in terms of funding and as someone on the episode said, different qualifications for teachers.

seeing the difference is jarring as I’ve never worked in a public school system but my oldest has attended. At my current school each elementary classroom has 10 iPads per 22 students. I couldn’t imagine fighting for one computer for a few hundred students to share!

I did enjoy the full circle story arc of the ice water guy though! That made me smile :)

Well, I'm just an average joe blow and remember the days when you could buy a pretty nice four bed, two and half bath colonial in a good school district for less that $200,000. Guess those days are pretty much over.

Yes those days are over. It’s such a frustrating market. We are getting ready to list our 4/3 house in order to live in a better school district. We would list for 400,000 which is great considering what we bought our house for but to find anything comparable we are looking at $700,000. It makes the most sense to sell and wait for the market to be a buyers market but rent is so outrageous here as well- double what my current mortgage payment is. It’s frustrating.

  3. So happy to have this show back!

I come from a world of teaching preschool for half days for 10 years and finally made the jump to full time Kindergarten this year. The Development week and lesson plannings/expectations really resonated with me. I went from a world of 10 kids to 22 and public school is such a different environment than a private small preschool. I look forward to the new found humor I will inevitably find this season now that I am fully immersed in the culture.

I too found myself tearing up at the end. My class has several different kids with learning differences and it can be hard to connect with them at times so it was nice to see the teachers here be able to get a good footing right from the start.

I wasn't here then, could someone explain the NFL picks game?  I'm intrigued.  And it reminded me to play Survivor on NFL,COM...

...which I can't seem to find...

Yea. You pretty much just pick what team you thought would win each game. At the end of the regular season if you got enough picks right you could participate in the playoff bracket. Pretty easy in regards to Fantasy Football in that you don’t have to worry about picking players, etc. only what teams you thought would win for that week.

Speaking of which, I'd love for there to be the return of the NFL picks contest.  It's been sometime since we've done that here.  I guess I'd have to run it if I want it so much (if a mod can't do it).  Those were a ton of fun; put a ton of interest in the game more than actual betting sometimes.

Yes- I use to love doing that here! I’d offer to run it but I’m too busy to head that up. I’d participate though :)

  6. My mom just had her gallbladder removed a month ago at 62.  Drs were surprised she hadn’t noticed any symptoms leading up to the attack because it was so bad off. But, women like my mom and myself tend to work through any aches and pains they may have and chop the symptoms up to something else (something I ate, lack of sleep, etc) so I can appreciate the advice and I am trying to be more in tune with my body knowing that it could happen to me too.

Yeah, I've heard that they won't even treat pre-existing conditions. But high BP can be controlled. I don't get charging more for a minor issue.

I honestly have no clue what type of insurance they have but from experience…. Our insurance is through Market Place. I took our 10 year old son for his routine yearly dr visit and his blood pressure was high. After months of blood work, echos, Ct scans, specialists, etc. we discovered he was born with a congenital heart defect that was only just now detected. So I can see how high blood pressure can be a tricky issue when it comes to health insurance.

I know next year our rates will be through the roof because of my son’s preexisting condition and the multiple surgeries he has to undergo.

  8. Ashleigh lost me when she said people don’t come to Asheville to eat. I live here and we have such a great restaurant scene! Amazing food here! In fact she used to work at one of the top restaurants in the area under a James Beard nominated head chef. I have no clue why she left but she only does little pop ups out of a food truck now and it seems to be only once a few months that she does them.

How can you be "allergic to shellfish but only the shell"?  Where do they find these people?

I actually found that rather interesting. I’ve never been to an allergist but I have a self diagnosed peanut allergy. Only to the shells. I can eat peanuts and peanut butter all day long but if I touch the shell I break out into hives and get a major rash all over and have uncontrollable sneezing. Oddly enough Screwball (peanut butter whiskey)does the same thing to me so they must process that differently than regular peanut butter.

Well, Panthers are out now on Watson. Leaves Saints and Falcons- will root against whatever team gets him. Cole Beasley is out in Buffalo. I am sure the moron will picked up somewhere else though.

Thank good for that. As a Panthers fan I’d rather lose with Sam Donald than have to completely sit out the next season. No way I’d support them if Watson was QB.

  11. We remodeled our kitchen a few years ago and installed a pot filler. I love it! I rarely use it for filling pots though. Just habit I guess. I love it to fill up my coffee pot reservoir, filling up a measuring cup or adding a bit more water to the pot if I didn't fill it enough the first time. When I cook with my cast iron skillet it's nice to be able to add a splash of water to the pan if it's getting too hot.

  12. Being the sorry Panthers fan that I am I usually pull for Tennessee when it comes to these playoff games (I’m an hour from the border). I also have a soft spot for Burrow so the game could have gone either way for me. But yea, no chance I can see the Bengals going any farther with an o line reminiscent of the Panthers.

The flag is magic I tell you.   Last time I flew it, the Cowboys scored fifty.   Flew it tonight, and 50 again.

Wish my flag worked the same way. I’m at the point where I take down the flag and don’t wear anything related to the Panthers on game day in hopes they will win :(

    Still doesn’t work!

  14. Just finished this. As a huge Lucille Ball fan (named my five year old after her) I thought it was ok. I didn’t actually mind Kidman or Bardem’s portrayal here. I think they both are such icons that it’s close to impossible to find actors that will do them justice.

I agree that the structure of the movie left a lot to be desired. The time jumps were confusing.

TCM has a podcast out now called The Plot Thickens and this past season focused on Lucille Ball. Highly recommend giving it a listen! It’s basically this movie in podcast form.

As a Panthers and a Cam fan I am thrilled with this news!

I was fine moving on from him but the Panthers did nothing good to replace him. They should have drafted a QB instead of relying on two broken QB’s (Bridgewater and Darnold). Cam has worked with a lot of this O line before. Now is his chance to go out a Panther and hopefully redeem himself from the disaster that was SB 50. I’m rooting for him!

Quoting myself here to say that I was one happy Panther fan today! Finally.
I always buy my dad a ticket to a Panthers game each year and we go together. We skipped last year because, Covid and I had every intention of skipping this year as well because of, Darnold. When they signed Cam I knew I had to be there for his first home game back. We have a group of 8 going next weekend. This will also be the first time my oldest kid gets to go to a game (12).

Mountainair family is pretty hyped and hoping it doesn’t implode!

  17. We made cheesesteaks and onion rings on Friday. We have a Blackstone flat top griddle that I really love using! Tonight will be ham and broccoli Stromboli.

My youngest of three just started Kindergarten a few weeks ago so I’ve taken on a part time job which starts tomorrow at the preschool my kids all attended. My life is about to be turned upside down in regards to family dinners.

I don’t like crockpot food (all mush IMO) so I spent this past week making a bunch of freezer to skillet type meals or freezer to oven meals. I did throw in one crockpot meal that I know my family likes.

My kids don’t have school busses or lunches provided at school so between working part time, trying to fit in my daily workout session, walking the dog, etc I’m nervous about how this will go. I feel at ease knowing I have dinners ready!

  18. On a whim I picked up two Hannah Swenson mysteries at the library the other week. IMO the books really suck. The author paints Hannah as someone who lacks any qualities that make you root for her. In the books she is constantly sleeping and her sister Michelle literally does everything for her. She pours her coffees, makes all her meals, bakes most of the cookies or pies. I don’t get how she is the same person as the Hannah in the movies. I like the movies much better and find the books a chore to get through. I will say that last weekend I made the Peanut Butter Chocolate Cheesecake recipe I found in one of the books and it was tasty :)

I wasn’t sure of the order but I’m obviously reading backwards. The first book I read was Banana Cream Pie murder where:

    Spoiler

Hannah has just married Ross (who I don’t think is ever mentioned in the movies) but Mike and Norman are still present and groveling for her daily and there is a weird 4 person marriage feeling going on between them all.

I’m just finishing Wedding Cake Murder where:

    Spoiler

Hannah is engaged to Ross and again Mike and Norman are ever present with the weird 4 person engagement feeling. In fact they are going to be in her wedding.
In both these books Mayor Bascomb has somewhat of a bigger part than the movies as a philanderer and is usually always a suspect in the murder.

  19. Doesn’t surprise me! Back in May a close friend of mines daughter went to Atlanta for a bachelorette party. We are all Bravo viewers and she told me her daughter was at a club there and Brielle showed up. Drinking and partying up a storm. When Brielle went to leave  her credit card was declined and she caused a massive scene. Not sure what the outcome was but my friends daughter took pictures that I saw so I have no reason to discount her story.

  20. Thought this episodes was better than the last episode with the Cocoa Mark (or whatever his name was) storyline. I really love the kid with the two moms and his retelling of the movie experience.. “remember when we were both reaching for popcorn and our hands touched...”   Our entire family was laughing the entire sleepover. Love that Koob is coming out of his shell now and the Duck girl gets to actually join the team.
I liked the moms challenge but was hoping to see the kids on the ice only because we have to wake up at an ungodly 7am tomorrow to start hockey games that will run from 9-1 (my kids are different ages/ teams).
I am just a sucker for nostalgia and am still really loving this as are my kids. My oldest commented at the end, “What is with Coach Bombay falling in love with a kids mom every time!”

  21. I guess I’ll go first 🙂

Watched this with my three kids tonight. I turned it on for them expecting to watch something else on my own tv but ended up getting sucked in. So for that I have to give it two thumbs up. We don’t watch pretty much anything as a family anymore because my kids would rather be on YouTube or playing video games.

I grew up watching the Mighty Ducks movies and loved them. Our kids started watching them about 4 years ago and loved them as well. All but my daughter who just turned 5 play in-line hockey locally. Our closest ice rink is an hour and a half away. She will start next year. Hockey is our jam. So this was really fun!

My main gripe with this was turning Bombay back into his old ways of hating hockey and kids. I mean, you own an ice skating rink dude. We needed to have him there in some way but the story telling there left me a little cold. Besides your Little Giants run of the mill underdog story which I expect I still am glad I tuned in with my kids and we will anticipate Friday evenings as a family viewing night so good on you Disney!

  22. Just have to say I loved Sophie the Giraffe making an appearance! All three of my kids had one and whenever someone I know is having a baby I gift them one as well. I actually had a Sophie randomly make an appearance at my front steps a few weeks ago joking with my husband that it was a sign to have another baby (my youngest and last baby is almost 5) but I think some baby must have dropped it on their stroller walk. I left it out on display in case they came back for it. Those things are seriously like gold!

  23. My husbands grandpa is a recovered alcoholic (40 plus years sober- he’s 93). When his wife died a few years ago we went to her funeral and were completely blindsided by it being held at his local AA chapter. We had to bow out at hour three because we had a five hour drive home. Listening to everyone’s stories was sobering but creepy as shit since we were supposed to be there for a funeral 🤷‍♀️

I think she’s as much an alcoholic as I am (maybe more since I don’t day drink). I think She’s looking for anything to excuse her shit ass parenting skills. Covid has made everyone take a second look at their lives and she’s trying to be a martyr. I think a lot of people would classify as alcoholic in these past 10 months where they didn’t before. Her motto is: Deflect, deflect, deflect.
