Thanks! The wind right now is a bitch. Just let the cat in and the temp is 24 but the wind makes it feel like fucking 0 for my old bones. Made a big pot of soup for hubs...clean out the pantry/fridge soup...to warm him up. He's parking at the end of the driveway (300') so he doesn't get stuck and has to walk to the house. Feels like the tundra out there..... My man's a trooper.....think I'll keep him.

At this moment (8 am EST) we are getting snow, freezing rain and it's windy. In other words it's a lovely winter's day in Ohio. Got 3" last night and more coming. We've been lucky so far this winter...lots of days in the 30-40's....but we're getting it now. 😟

Ever tasted one? It's been a long time but they're kinda like a mushy mango. They don't stay ripe for long after they're picked so you gotta eat 'em quick.... I took Home Ec, too. We learned cooking, sewing etc...even had guys in our class! Took secretarial courses HS....hated shorthand and adequate in typing (never got beyond 70-75 wpm). Boychild took it (begrudgingly) and as he is a computer tech he types circles around me. But I'm glad I know the keyboard since these newfangled computer things came along.

Love, love, love horses! Papaw had a farm in KY and us kids used to spend the summers down there and we all had chores. I've cleaned chicken coops, mucked stalls, picked tobacco worms off the 'backy' plants, picked pawpaws/wild blackberries, shucked corn, tended the garden etc. Loved it and I wouldn't trade trade that experience for the world.

Oh, you gotta see the mini-series! Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper, Anjelica Houston, Ricky Schroder...so many good actors. It's well worth it. We've got the DVD and watched it last month for the 4/6th time. Post that recipe for lemon/blueberry cake , please peaches. I'm in the mood to bake something. Boychild and I both have sweet teeth (?...plural you know)...hubby not so much. He likes salty treats. I had a post that was deleted...don't know what I said...but I would miss that Japanese Maple, too. One of my favorite trees. I worked at a nursery for a couple of years between shops and we sold a lot of them. Not cheap but I wish I would have bought one 'cause I got a discount. Gorgeous foliage.

Amen Great news MollyB! YAY!!!! Still not feeling up to snuff yet....thanks for asking, snap. Getting ready to close the shop for good and retire. Just don't have the oomph any more. Plus after last week I don't feel business will ever be the same anyway. I'm hardly essential.....vintage clothing, records and collectibles are pretty much luxury items. My theatre trade has dried up, too. No high school/college plays or costume parties. Hubby still has his job (auto parts...they supply parts for farm and first responder vehicles) but their walk-in 'shade tree mechanic' business has slowed and a lot of small garages are closing, too. This insurrection has disrupted all our lives. Add Covid on top of that.....???? I'm very afraid of what will happen next. Cupid posted a link about 2 new variants in OH. It just gets better and better *said with the utmost sarcasm* I wrote the big paragraph yesterday morning but lost my interweb connection (satellite) all day. I was jonesin' man....... Stay safe wherever you are.

I've read things about that. Makes sense.....he had many of Holly's traits in real life. Wouldn't you have loved to run in those circles back then? Fascinating people and places. Much love and prayers to boes and peaches. These are tough times. Not being with family in a crisis is....I'm trying to find the right word. It just plain sucks. I was too ill to fly to FL when my Mom passed 4 yrs ago and it still hurts and I'm sure it always will. 😟

Damn you, Cupid.....you just compelled me to order The Essential Julie London. Got the albums and I'm replacing my fave LPs to CDs. Huge fan....used to sing some of her songs in the jazz/blues trio I was in. Tasty stuff.

Too sad.....we're losing too many great artists this year. I'm digging out my TR CD's for tonite. 😟 Counting the hours to 2021.....are we there yet?

My BIL makes scalloped oysters with a recipe like that. Crackers (Ritz are best but you can use saltines), cream, butter, oysters....it's to die for. I love onions and I can see a casserole like that with caramelized onions. Everybody on a food hangover this morning? 🙂

Oh, yeah.....I meant to mention I made The Dip yesterday. I swear the longer it sits the better it gets. Veggies are cut. It's become a fave at Casa Songbird. I use it on baked potatoes and other dishes. bannana....I wish I could teleport myself to your house! Beef Wellington (I've never attempted) and prawns.....I'm droolin' here. Let me know how the lemon/blueberry comes out, peaches....I love that combination.

What y'all cookin' this weekend? Even if you're alone you gotta treat yourself! Boychild is coming down and he requested turkey, etc since we missed Thanksgiving. I'm apprehensive but he wants to and we really miss him. So we'll do the usual games and movies...not to mention the feeding frenzy. I always have enough food for 6-8 people but we do love our leftovers. Once the dinner is done I ain't cooking nothin' but brunch and he'll be here Thurs-Sun. Plus kid always leaves with a huge care package. 😊 Everyone have as good a time as you can, stay positive, do something nice for someone or something, and don't forget to treat yourself, too. We all need a little TLC. A wonderful holiday to all from beautiful Ohio....

I should rephrase that 'clean-out' part. 😉 I'm not 'cleaning' anything......just grabbing anything that needs to be used up before it goes bad. Today it's potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, snow peas and broth from the freezer (I freeze any broth from cooking veggies for use later) . I hate to see food go to waste......plus I can chop up the veggies from the comfort of my couch while I watch my shows. Lately it's been a Law & Order marathon....I loves me some Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) & Green (Jesse L. Martin). Plus anything with Sam Waterston is fine with me. Check out the old (1980) PBS series Oppenheimer (about Los Alamos and the atomic bomb). Great show.

I hope he comes home soon. 🙏 I got out of the hospital Nov 10th and I'm getting better everyday (in small increments....just started getting into the shower by myself a couple of days ago). Still waaaaay low on stamina.....the fatigue thing is no joke. I am cooking...today is clean-out-the-fridge/pantry/freezer-soup day. Same here on the Christmas gathering. Boychild is still planning on coming for the weekend but I'm having my doubts. Hubby and I have both been exposed...even tho they said he tested negative we don't believe it. He was sick for several days (and quarantined) and he's usually healthy as a horse as is our son. I hear so many conflicting stories about whether I can still infect boychild or he can give it back to us even tho he is healthy at this point, just may be asymptomatic. I just don't want anybody to get this....well, I can think of a few folks in Washington D.C. 🙄 Everyone have as good a holiday season as you can. We Preverts are a resilient bunch after all. Soldier on everyone..... MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HANUKKAH & KWANZAA to all!!
