  1. I saw Spotlight several months ago, and its impact still stays with me. I've also seen The Big Short, which was a good film, but I really hope Spotlight beats it for the Best Picture Oscar.

  2. I was pulling for Polina, just so that the Wagner/Gold stranglehold on the title could be broken. But Gracie came out and earned the gold medal. That's the best I've ever seen her skate.

  3. I thought there was an interesting contrast between Todd and Parker shown last night. When Todd's wash plant went down, Todd's reaction was to get in his mechanic's face, yell "Fix the friggin' thing NOW!" and storm off. When faced with a problem with his equipment, Parker ran up to his mechanic and said "What can I do to help?"

Now I'm no fan of Parker and his ego, but Todd's seeming laziness and refusal to do anything requiring physical exertion drives me friggin' nuts.

  4. I detested Michael V. after his season because he beat Bryan V. for the title, but after seeing him last night, I think I'm coming around to his side. He looked - and sounded - so mature and accomplished, just like, as the poster above said, Manbun would like to be.

  5. Surprised to hear that Venus lost in the 1st round, especially since she had a good season last year. I wasn't familiar with her opponent, who I think was seeded in the 30's.

  6. Season 5 is the gold standard for TAR, in my opinion. Great characters, great challenges, great locations. Remember the Sphinx at night? There are other seasons that I love - like 17 - but none have reached the pinnacle of 5 for me.

  7. As a non-Christian, I was taught the basic definition of a Christian is someone who accepts Jesus Christ as the Messiah and the son of God. Period.

I think the fundamentalists add another component to this: One must accept Jesus Christ as the Messiah and the Son of God, but also as one's personal savior. Without the latter, one is not truly a Christian. Thus, the Dillard's belief that Catholics must be taught how to be 'saved.'

  8. you know what, when the show first came on i was ok with the first couple episodes but now i am beginning to think HGTV is responsible for overexposure of some of their talent to the point where they become extremely annoying to watch..

    same thing with property brothers....

i just change the channel now...

Right there with you. I love Fixer Upper during its 1st season. Then when the 2nd season started, I couldn't believe how amped up Chip had become; he is totally annoying now. And every reno looked the same.

So now I don't watch it at all. Same with the over-exposed Property Brothers shows.

  9. I often wondered why it is called the Tyler Perry Idol. I mean the Idol rules for his Idol and the rules for the one that Yul won are the exact same. Why call it the Tyler Perry Idol when he did not really create it?

It is my understanding that Tyler Perry contacted Probst and suggested the show change the play of the idol to make it stronger. I don't know if he realized that the Cook Islands idol worked that way previously. In any event, Probst thought it was a great idea and introduced it to the show. It came to be known as the Tyler Perry idol.

  10. Mary Kay works at a law firm, as some type of assistant. I'm not sure if it was mentioned what Villi does, but he's got a very noticeable scar on his face.

I believe the show said that Villi worked as a DJ. I don't know how much money that would bring in, but I do know from personal experience that her job as a legal assistant wouldn't support a family of four. I wonder if they invested the $750,000 they received from the filming of their wedding and are drawing interest or dividends from that to supplement their incomes?

  11. Check out Tucci as Puck in "Midsummer Night's Dream" - he's amazing.

Is this the same Stanley Tucci who played Julia Child's husband in "Julia and Julie"?

  12. I'd just like to say that I'll be sorry to see this season end, no matter who wins. Not just because it's been the best season of Survivor in like forever, but because I won't get to come here and read all the insightful and fun posts from true Survivor fans.

  13. Give up chocolate? That sounds like a non- negotiable to me. I would certainly want a second opinion on that one. What would happen if you didn't give it up? Hopefully some of these answers you finally have will lead to solutions that make you feel better. Hugs to you.

Chocolate is always the first thing that has to be given up after an Acid Reflux diagnosis. My husband struggles with this ban every day.

  14. Yeah, the fireplace was curved. So, I guess a mantle would be hard to do but I agree that some tile work should have been done. I totally missed the little brother being mentioned. I don't even know if I knew if they had the baby or not. I think I was so into the Flip of the house that I didn't pay attention to anything else.

I was listening specifically for a mention of the baby and didn't hear anything. I also noticed that in their Christmas commercial for HGTV they have Taylor with them but again there is no mention of the baby.

It's kind of strange, but maybe they just want to keep him out of the public eye for a while.

  15. Can someone tell me what the (fv) is? Thanks.

(fv) stands for family visit. Spoilers had it happening at the Final 6, when actually occurred at Final 8.

  16.

The Amazing Race was originally the reality show for people who hated reality shows.  It was a cut above.  But with all these u-turns, double u-turns stuff if just brings the negative and pulls the show down to the same level of the other shows.  it used to be special.  Now it is a show that still entertains to an extent but is a shell of it's former self.

I sadly have to agree with this.  TAR was once my favorite show on all of television, with Survivor running a distant second.  That has changed in recent years.

For the first time ever, I didn't finish last season.  I didn't care who won and disliked the whole 'Phil at the mat asking about a love connection.'  I came here to find out the winner and remembered not being surprised, but also not caring one whit.

I haven't watched last week's episode yet.  I had to make myself watch the week before.  I don't think I'm going to watch any more, unless I read that Justin and Diana have been eliminated.  That team has made this season virtually unwatchable for me, and that makes me very sad.

On the other hand - as soon as Survivor's Wednesday night episode is completed, I start eagerly anticipating the next week's offering.  I am loving this season and even though I am spoiled, I still love watching how the whole thing unfolds.

As I think about it - the same thing happened to me with Dancing with the Stars.  I used to love it - now I haven't watched at all in 3 or 4 seasons.  It makes me think that Survivor is far and away the most durable of the reality shows, for whatever reason.  The old workhorse can still keep my attention, where others no longer do.

  17. Oh, and Ew at Jeff dating Jerri. I don't even know who I'm Ew-ing at. Ok, I'm Ew-ing at Jeff. He should know better after Season 2. I just remember hating, hating, hating her. I felt neutral or even positive towards her during HvV.

Jeff didn't date Jerri from Season 2 and HvV. He hooked up with Julie from Vanuatu. She was a remarkably beautiful woman who famously sunbathed on the beach with her bikini top untied.
