I kind of don't find it believable for her to have paid that all off. It was around $10,000 no? That means about $1000/month. We didn't see them make any lifestyle changes to really finance that. They still go out every day for maybe multiple meals, buy food from multiple establishments for one meal at times.
But regardless, she got that check right after the inn burned down. You'd think she'd be wise enough to save some of that money due to her lack of job security at that point and also the fact that her daughter was going off to college.
Of course I also agree with people saying that getting out of that mildly toxic contract as quickly as possible makes sense.
Though, did we know for sure the entire check was spent on paying back the loan?

I think it slammed her like a train when Logan pointed it all out to her. That's why she moved back in with Paris and Doyle instead of staying at Logan's rent free. I don't think she was blind to it as she was back in S6, but obviously had room for improvement.
How might Emily react if she had made no effort to repay such a significant obligation as soon as she was able?Maybe she'd be thinking that Lorelai was paying back the loan she took from the bank to fix her house from termite damage.
Her sex life isn't their business, but if she doesn't want to follow their rules, there is a little thing called "full time work" and "getting an apartment."
I thought that was a stupid storyline. She really just non-chalantly told her grandparents' priest that she was having sex? At the beginning of what was going to be an awkward dinner? I'm not a fan of lying, but it's pretty similar to agreeing with a crying pregnant woman that she's fat. A horrible idea where a white lie is perfectly acceptable. She didn't even have to lie. Just say thank you for the advice and time and change the topic. Journalist? Please.

Rory had a whole rant at the end of season 3 on how she was going to go supply shopping for Yale before leaving for Europe because otherwise it'd bother her the entire trip. Season 4 comes along and she hasn't purchased anything? Also, when they were buying supplies, I know there's a charm in small town shopping, but clearly it was not the most economical/time saving method of buying her college supplies. We know there's a Wal-Mart somewhere nearby.
The fourth season opener particularly bothered me. It was her error in reading her Yale schedule that resulted in Lorelai having to run a number of errands for her. But rather that inform the senior Gilmores that she had made a mistake, she let them believe that her mother was blowing them off.I don't believe for one second that during the extra long dinner, the conversation never turned to her moving into Yale the next day. That means Rory had ample time say anything along the lines of "mom had to buy some more supplies so I could make it to dinner" or "I wrote the day down wrong so I have to rush the packing job, sorry I can't stay too late". The fact that she had to call her mom to beg her to "rescue" her is mind boggling. If she was unable to say those basic things to her freaken grandparents, a journalist she was not made to be.
Then there was that study tree business. Sheesh. Apparently problem-solving was pretty much something for other people.You mean you've never had a tree perfectly fit the curve of your back? /s Not even problem solving, just dealing with what life gives you. Loud roomates? Get some earplugs. Too quite? Put in headphones. Yale's libraries are too ___? Fucking deal with it instead of driving home and complaining about your mom having to use your room for her business. Libraries in colleges aren't just pretty buildings that hold books. And then there was that date with Trevor. Rory was never really a socially awkward person, suddenly she's Monk?
And while both Rory and Dean bear culpability for what they did, I find it difficult to believe that Dean would have come to her house that evening, had she not been treating him as "my Dean"(confiding in him, having him collect her from the bar) in the preceding weeks.
I'm always going to blame the married person more. But Rory was doing her best imitation of Lorelai, being possessive of a man she has no business being possessive of. And then doing her best imitation of a 4 year old, "I saw it first so it's mine".
Rory in seasons 4 (listed above), 5 (the Dean thing again, her inability to handle the Mitchum thing, the yacht situation), and 6 (pool house life and general spoiledness) had a lot of unlikeable qualities. She still had her good traits, but her "issues" sometimes made her a difficult character to root for.
I do think that season 7 Rory was better. She called out Lorelai for sleeping with Chris, she called out Logan about the deal he made and lost a ton of money on, she was a little more introspective, and was a fuller person.
I hated everything during that time. Lorelai was all: "Wahoo! I have money, my Friday nights are free again from my moron parents!" Which I didn't like, so hence I understood why Rory said those things, but Rory should have understood her mother's POV from that.I saw both sides of the issue as well. But at the end of the day, she had to pay off the loan and she did. She might have known how Emily would have reacted and probably should have paid it off in installments or something of the like so it wasn't an "abrupt" end to FND. Both ways pay off the loan, but one would have less of an over the top reaction from Emily. Which is what I think was Rory's ultimate (but poorly made) point.

I just started season 7, which I've seen bits and pieces of in the past but this will be my first complete watch. So far I don't think the tone is too far off, despite the change of showrunners/writers. The general spirit is there. I did get bothered though, at a remark Sookie makes when Lorelai is telling her she and Luke broke up. Sookie says, "Well I know he's been kind of a jerk lately, ..." After just finishing season 6 and having it fresh in my mind, I don't really see how Luke was being a jerk. He made the wrong call waiting to tell Lorelai about April, but then apologized profusely for it. He requested some time to develop a relationship with April, but I don't recall him ever demanding that Lorelai keep her distance. Well, he does before April's party but he admits it's because he's scared April will like Lorelai better. Yes, he wants to slow down the wedding plans, but that was after Lorelai suggested it. He asked several times if she's ok with it and she says yes. Maybe he's a little blind to the fact that Lorelai is actually bothered by it, but she is not offering up any info to suggest otherwise. He tries calling her repeatedly and visiting the house and she HIDES and doesn't return his calls. Instead she stuffs it in until she's so upset that she springs the ultimatum on him. He hesitates and she instantly sleeps with Christopher. Luke does not seem to be the jerk here! I know it was just a casual remark from Sookie but it bothered me that they seem to be setting up Lorelai as the victim.
Amen.
How dare Luke not read Lorelai's mind? How dare he not construe her "everything's ok" as "holy shit I'm not ok with this"? Luke may have handled things poorly at times, but Lorelai not communicating her issues until her ultimatum was what ended their engagement. As my husband says to me, use your words, it's going to save us from a lot of problems.

I was put off by the "cheerleaders decorate lockers" story and wish that it had ended with Carly getting the other cheerleaders to take down their decorations and dump them in Cam's office. The whole thing has sexual harassment and discrimination writ large. UGH.
That ending would have been a lot better than the cheerleader actually going to do it. But I did like that we found out that Cam was doing most the lockers already. I also don't see the sexual harassment or discrimination, but the tradition is gross and sexist, just like Manny's cheerleader said.

I don't begrudge them just forgetting about Rory's grand theft issue for season 7. ASP seemed to be dropping grenades all over the place by mid S6 and they managed to try to salvage what little they could for S7. If that ridiculous plot line was collateral damage, so be it. I mean, we basically had a rehash of Rory freaking out about how she might not be good enough when she was taking finals at the end of S7 (and walked away with one of her blue books). So either she learned nothing from that freakout over Mitchum telling her she wasn't good enough, or the S7 writers just said "fuck it, it never happened".

My husbands reactions to Louis realizing the flowers Jessica got were real "oh my god, is this show about your mother?" She has fake flowers all over the house because real flowers die. And then the extreme car bargaining. I just remember the broken look on the faces of the car salesmen (plural) when she was helping me negotiate for my car. Except since it's modern day, she had print outs from all over the place, random math scribbled everywhere, "yelling" at my dad on the phone, different examples of discounts, etc etc.

What kind of craziness is this, girls "assigned" to football players? And what guy would want his locker covered in that frilly crap? What kind of madness goes on in American football-obsessed schools?
Yes. I don't think it'd be a big deal in the school that Luke and Manny goes to since I don't see football being as big there, but definitely yes in "football country". Friday Night Lights covered it pretty well throughout the show.
I thought Phil and Claire and decided to meddle more in the Andy-Haley situation after episode 1 this season. It's weird that Phil would ok Dylan living there if that's the case. While I thought this storyline was funny, Phil needs to own up to his parenting rather than being the good guy.
The Manny/Luke storyline was awful. Desperate girls in college will consent to "anything" to desperate high school guys? No. I know high school guys have hormones, but the entire thing was awful. I did like that Luke stayed with Alex in the end.
The Gloria helicoptering is awkward, but my mom called my brother and sent a ton of text messages after she couldn't reach me at 10PM last night. I'm married and haven't lived at home for years. So yeah I can see it.
The Jay and Mitchell storyline was good, but does getting that Roladex back really change anything? Who still uses those things? Wouldn't those clients just have Closets closet closets closets in their phone or something?

There's some dispute about her age and it keeps getting changed on her Wikipedia page and on IMDb. In this interview from last February in Glamour magazine, they talked about her being 26 at the time (so 27 now if her birthday is actually in March) and being 14 years younger than Randall Park and she didn't dispute that. I think she probably is in her twenties, but she or her agents or whoever is claiming she's older to stop all the questions about the age difference with Park and playing a mom to tween boys.
Sorry for the off topic-ness. Constance Wu graduated from college in 2005. Unless she's a genius it's safe to say they were downplaying her age initially because Asians look young (a lady at BJ's wouldn't let me have a sample unless I got permission from my parents...) and women have to be young in Hollywood, and now they're going to her actual age because of the "age controversy" from Fresh Off the Boat.

My own dad is pretty aloof, so I can see how Luke could be construed as a father figure for Rory. The scene that sold it for me was during her 21st birthday party when she's introducing Luke to Tweeny Halpern as her "step-father to be". Luke seemed genuinely proud? happy? And so did Rory. You don't need to be demonstrative to show affection and that seemed like their relationship to me. Luke's rant about how Rory was Pippi and needed to see the world and deserving better. Him almost beating Dean up after the first break up, warning Jess away from her, his first blush dislike of Logan, etc etc. These weren't motivated by his relationship with Lorelai or Jess, just his fondness for Rory. On the flip side, Rory seemed genuinely furious at Emily meddling with the Luke/Lorelai relationship and then Lorelai sleeping with Christopher right after her ridiculous ultimatum.
Though Rory's real father figure in the show, to me, was always Richard. Ed Herrman's affection for Alexis came across on screen and added something to the Rory and Richard relationship. It's probably my favorite relationship of the whole show.
amensisterfriend, is it really a popular opinion that Rory was a bad friend to Paris? Paris was such an insane handful, I can't imagine anyone saying that about Rory being as patient with her as Rory was. Because seriously, that girl had extreme issues.

I mean unlike other late night hosts that took over recently, set aside everything for Trevor stayed the same. MoZ, crop of correspondents, writers, etc etc. it's going to be hard to not compare Trevor with Jon.

I definitely think Constance changed her accent a bit, and Randall doesn't have one at all.
I feel like Jessica is being Janeway'd. Half the writers wanted Janeway to be a badass bitchy captain and the other half wanted her to be a motherly captain. I see that happening here.
Constance's expression during the singing part was hilarious though.

Kristen Schaal is still part of the show, but considering I've been surprised by her appearance in a bunch of things I've seen recently it's probably a scheduling thing. Similar to how Aasif is still part of the show but never there.

Logan wasn't making any special effort to talk to her either. In fact, Rory didn't even know they were broken up until Logan's sister told her that Logan said they broke up.
Maybe ASP was just a big fan of Friends. "We were on a break!" Ugh shut up Ross.
Plus Logan was basically operating the same way Lorelai would. Unilateral relationship decisions. How she ended her engagement to Max, moving from Jason to Luke, moving from Luke to Christopher.

I'd say that Lorelai was like that with both Luke and Chris. When Nicole was back in Luke's life, she went on a rant to Rory about how Luke needed to get thru his thick skull that whoever is in his life is in her life. When Sherry told her that they didn't have to get to know each other, she flipped out at Chris and said that if Sherry is part of Chris' life, she's part of Lorelai's life. That is an insane amount of possessiveness over both these guys.

I think Sookie was the best friend. As she had said, Lorelai was busy raising a 9 year old during the Rachel time plus she was just moving in to her house. Also the rate at which gossip traveled was quick. The gossip crew of Babette and Miss Patty and East Side Tilley could wear that out in a day.

And then comes the part that confuses me to no end when it comes to Luke. She told the shrink she realized how much she loved Luke because of how much he cared for Rory.
The worst thing is, she played that against Luke several times. After the car accident with Jess, she goes on a rant about how Luke has an obligation to her and Rory and to hell with Jess and how dare he try to help his nephew out. Or when Rory's moving to Yale and Lorelai takes Luke's truck for basically 2 days instead of a few hours. When Luke says he needs his truck for something, Lorelai plays the whole "don't you care about Rory" card even though she's legitimately walking distance from home and her own car at this point. This is all before dating Luke.
After dating Luke it became, "I don't want to set a date for the wedding because things aren't right with Rory, but I myself will do nothing to fix this so maybe we'll never get married" (paraphrased and implications). And then after she sets a date and Luke finds out he has a 13 year old daughter and wants to make up for lost time, it becomes "how dare you put your daughter first, I'm sad that this wedding date that I set without talking to you got pushed back even though you're doing something about your daughter issue while I wasn't with mine earlier. I'll give you an immature ultimatum and then go sleep with the guy that I've been denying I had feelings for". Baffling.

In pretty much ALL respects. I remember getting incensed at her going "Yeah, well I'm not good at the money stuff" - you know what? LEARN.
To be fair, I don't think you need to be good at money stuff to figure out that: hiring 7 instead of 4 kitchen staff is one hell of a money drain; if lunch isn't turning a profit, cancel lunch and decrease staff for the time; or changing menus mid-cooking is a waste of resources, time, and money; getting a sink special ordered from France when you're tight on money is a shitty idea.
That's an easy excuse to throw out, but that's not being "bad at money stuff", that's not using common sense.
I don't know why they'd get their own horses for the inn. Why not set something up with a local stable instead? Horses are expensive to get and even more expensive to keep. Not to mention you now need to hire people to take care of the horses full time and would be able to take people out onto the trails.

Luke was right to be jealous in WBB; Lorelai hadn't done anything wrong in visiting Chris, but she had lied to him about it. Chris was right to be jealous in Season 7;
To be honest, both guys had reason to be jealous. Lorelai's first actions after leaving Luke (aside from driving and knocking on a door) was having sex with Christopher. Not long after her divorce with Christopher, she's singing "I Will Always Love You" to Luke. With 20/20 hindsight, reinforces the fears both guys had about Lorelai's relationship with the other.
I do think Luke's reaction to WBB was more about being hurt and basically being shit on by Emily (via actions) and Christopher (via words) and the drama being involved with Lorelai had(and kind of being lied to) he switched to his default mode which is anger. He was intentionally being hurt by people and he did the right thing in leaving before causing a scene. He never really blamed Lorelai for it, but did address the fact that this might be too much drama for him and he might not want to deal with it. Leaving her behind wasn't that great, but it's not like he abandoned her in the middle of the woods.
In Christopher's case, he perceived Luke as a threat even though he himself wasn't there for his in-laws while his father -in-law was in the hospital. And then he turns around and lashes out at Lorelai because Luke was being helpful (the man had to drive around Yale to get Richard's car back home, get back to his own car, and then went and got a bunch of food for everyone including fish which he heard Emily talking about - all while being treated snottily by Emily)? If my father was in the hospital and somebody, let alone my husband pulled that on me? No, GTFO and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.
I don't necessarily think either guy was abusive, but I do think one was a bigger douche.

I think candidates are very smart not to eat when they are interviewed over food. There's no upside to that, even if you're peckish. Wait till all the cameras are off! And Larry, I love you, but I don't love talking with your mouth full. The chicken looked delicious without your mastications.
Thinking about correcting the town-hall nitwits that claim Bam is Muslim. I wonder if McCain would have corrected a male questioner. I think maybe not, maybe he would have glided past the question like Trump did.
McCain handled it better than Trump. Though I don't know about implying that Arab's aren't decent family men, but still. He was not dealing with that crap. (female questioner)
He also did not stand for Obama bashing at times (male questioner). (same town hall)

It was built inside a pencil case. Not a briefcase. I though someone should have covered that this explains why STEM education in the US has fallen behind other countries. When the first reaction to a circuit board with wires is "oh maybe bomb", that's a problem. But if the claim was "maybe bomb" and bomb squad isn't called, that's another issue. But whatever.

To be fair, Stephen is not a comedian. He was not a stand up, long form improv and acting was more his thing. Though long form improv definitely trains listening, so don't know what that deal is. Probably a hard TCR habit to break.
