Okay, pure fancy here; How I want The Americans to end:

Philip and Elizabeth wake up in a huge overstuffed bed, somewhere in New England.  In rapid succession, perky but scatterbrained housecleaner Paige comes in to complain about something, followed by irascible but warmhearted handyman Stan.  In the background you can hear Oleg talking to his brothers Ivan and Ivan.  Philip looks at Elizabeth and says "I just had the worst dream of my life.  No fucking way."  Elizabeth replies with a sigh, "Way, dude.  Way."

And we're introduced to Philip's friends Леонид, his brother Дмитрий and his other brother Дмитрий.

My guess is Henry and Paige will be okay, regardless of the end for their parents. They're tough kids. They might wind up in the Soviet Union though. If P and E get caught or killed, they may get shipped there anyway. The American government may not want the kids of spies staying in their country. I seem to recall that happening to real life spies kids.

See, I had figured they'd be safe because they're American citizens.  But I suppose extraordinary circumstances call for extraordinary measures.

Maybe even glimpses of Martha making her way back to the US as USSR falls.

I would love to see poor Martha come home but I don't think she'd be welcome.  Maybe Elizabeth will meet an untimely end and Phillip/Clark will go back to Russia and they can pick up where they left off :)

  4. Here's what I would really love to see as the series wraps up.  Apologizing beforehand because I'm not certain at all that I can translate my "vision" from my head to the keyboard!

It's 1987 and Paige is a sophomore in college (I figure she's the same age as I am).  She lives in a dorm but is still close enough to take part in family spying hijinks.  In the last episode, we jump ahead to 1989 when she is graduating from college.  Somehow, I'm not sure how, we cut to E and P and Henry, heck maybe even Stan and his woman in the audience watching the ceremony. Then a montage of Paige clips starts up, showing her from the beginning of the series and you can see how much she has changed.  Over this montage, you can hear a group of people saying, "...I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter." and the camera cuts to Paige standing in a group of people and they're all wearing Service Dress Whites.  She has her right hand up and you can hear her voice plainly saying, "So help me God"

So basically Paige got an appointment to the Naval Academy (I had considered West Point but the Naval Academy is closer to where they live) and she is now a commissioned officer and the sky is the limit as far as the information she can get.

It doesn't look so hot on the page but, I swear, it was good in my head! lol

I don't know if you made this line up or if you've seen it somewhere else, but I love it.

Bitchy, undermining female doctor is such an archetype and I was disappointed when she showed up.  Surgery is still an old-boys club; why couldn't they have them being supportive of one another?  And it sounds like she wants a cardio-thoracic fellowship?  Is she competing with Claire for that?  I'd never heard Claire say she wants cardio-thoracic.

Am I the only person here who really likes Dr. Andrews?  I was actually watching some hour-long bio on Whitney Houston last week and Hill Harper was narrating it.  I was going nuts trying to remember where I knew him from!  Maybe a white coat is the medical equivalent of Clark Kent's glasses?

Also, I finally got to see the entire run of Bates Motel and, to tell you the truth, I'm a little afraid of Shaun at this point!

He'd make a good House - a diagnostician who doesn't really "treat" patients but hears all the info and test results and sees through to the real problem.

I think Shaun would be a brilliant radiologist or pathologist; both specialties where you can go without face to face contact with a patient!  But I guess an entire hour of Shaun interpreting ultrasounds and CAT scans would be a snoozefest. :)

  7. Ugh; only got through the first 15 minutes.  That Conrad dude; I COULD NOT TAKE him one second more.  He seems to be such a stereotypical a$$ that all he needs is a moustache to twirl.  A third year resident with the power to kick another doctor out of the residency program?

And this is nitpicky, but at the beginning when they zoomed in on the lead character's Harvard diploma it said he received a "Bachelor of Arts in Medicine".  What does that even mean?  Did they let him skip medical school and come to work with only a Bachelor's degree???????  Shouldn't it read "Doctor of Medicine"?

Last week I liked the twin storyline  This week all it did was hella confuse me.  I still have no idea which one lived.

I laughed so hard when I read this and then thought to myself, "Eh, that's not a laughing matter."  Then I read it again and laughed even harder :)

I think I am in the minority that I liked Lea but maybe I only liked her because I found out the actress is from near Pittsburgh and that's my hometown.  Come to think of it, before I knew that, she kind of annoyed me.

  9. 12 hours ago, DearEvette said:

I have to agree here.  I was rather bored by the road trip to be honest.  Leah's character felt like the show decided to their version of the manic pixie dream girl while dragging Shaun along for the ride.

That's so funny because I thought of this thread while I was on the elliptical machine this evening and considered asking the commentariat if it thought Lea was the show's version of the manic pixie dream girl!  I'm glad to see I wasn't far off.  I dunno, though, can someone be an engineer AND a MPDG?

  10. I forgot that this show was coming back tonight so it was a nice surprise to see it on my DVR.  I just started watching a few minutes ago but the only thing I'm really thinking is, who on the writing staff has a connection to Pittsburgh?  Nobody who has not spent time there would ever know what "nebby" is!

  11. I loved the episode as I've loved every episode in the re-boot!  Although, I didn't watch the series the first time around so I don't have that to compare them to.  I think part of the reason I love it is because it seems like the actors are having so much fun.

Question:  who was the short older man Will and Grace (or their 1912 alter-egos) ran into on the street?  I'm guessing he's normally part of the cast?

First of all, the cliffhanger doesn't work for me at all.  There is no suspense to "will Shaun come back?!"  The show is about him.  He's the main character.  Of course he isn't going to be written out after 10 episodes.

Second, the other "cliffhanger?"  I don't care about Melendez and Jessica at all.  I certainly don't care about whether or not they plan on having kids.  And while Melendez is one of my favorite characters on the show, I think he was a total jerk to her dad.

Claire keeps getting dumped on.  Jared will probably be back, but honestly, he deserved to be fired.

All that being said, I overall liked the episode - Shaun's slow burn to a breakdown, the athlete patient of the week, etc.

To me, the cliffhanger is that I think we're going to learn Dr. Glassman's backstory and more about Shaun's past when the season starts up again next month.  Shaun's fleeing back to Wyoming (Wyoming, right?  I remember it's one of those big, square states) is the perfect vehicle to bring all of that stuff the forefront and I for one am very excited about that!

I don't care about Melendez and Jessica either.  I figured trouble was ahead a few episodes ago when Jessica said something about places they could get married and Melendez mentioned marrying in a church.  If this show lasts long enough, I predict that Claire and Melendez will end up together.

Freddie acted the heck out of those "breakdown" scenes.  He has always been a really underrated performer; hopefully he'll be recognized when award season rolls around.

  13. I'm so sad that this is the last show before the winter hiatus!  I'm curious to see how the episode plays out vs. how the previews make it look.  It's hard to imagine Shaun just wailing on Dr. Glassman like we saw!

FACS doesn't mean you've passed your boards. You have to pass your boards to join the ACS, but ACS membership is not automatic. And you have to have practiced for a year after residency before you can apply, per the ACS website.

The ACS is an organization with different membership levels.  Membership is, I believe, open to med students and residents as well as attendings .  In order to be a Fellow (Fellow, American College of Surgeons), however, you need to already be certified in your surgical specialty.

I finally got to sit down and watch the second episode of "The Good Doctor".  Did anyone else notice that the young female's white coat had "FACS" after her name?  I thought she was a resident?  But FACS means she passed her boards so that wouldn't make sense.  I think I'll just continue to enjoy this show as mindless fun and try not to pick it apart or it'll drive me nuts!

Watching last night's episode I noticed that The Costuming Powers That Be took FACS off of EVERYONE'S lab coats.  Poor Dr. Melendez, got his board certification ripped out from under him :(

And they manage to do all this without constant musical beds! I like that this show is not at all focused on sexcapades. Grey's Anatomy take note! We had Claire and Jared banging in the pilot, but they've dropped that story completely and I really appreciate it.

Me too!  When I saw that first scene with Claire and Jared, my first thought was "Not THIS again?!?"

I meant to mention earlier that I liked seeing Pej Vahdat (Squintern Dr. Aristoo Vaziri from "Bones") as the cardiologist working with Melendez on the little boy's care.  I was bummed to see on IMDB that he's only in one episode though.

  17. Wow.  Is it me or have the writers really upped their game?  At the beginning of the series, the only person I was interested in was Shaun.  Now, I care about the whole gang.  Dr. Melendez was a bit of a jerk but now he's a three dimensional character and I like him!  Claire's character is funny and sweet and idealistic.  Dr. Andrews is more than a hospital president wannabe in the most well-tailored lab coat I've ever seen.  I'm interested in Aaron Glassman's past.  I've even warmed to Jared!

I tuned in for Freddie's adorableness and I'm staying for the great chemistry the cast members have with one another.

"Or it could be ringworm".  I wonder if there's a way I could incorporate that in my everyday vocabulary?

I think the writers did a good job with the way they drop little hints here and there about the past.  At this point, I am as curious about Dr. Glassman's backstory as I am about Shaun's.

I first saw Antonia Thomas back when she was boozy party girl juvenile delinquent Alicia on Misfits, so its still a little weird to me seeing her as a responsible doctor (and an American!) here. She is doing a great job with it though, so its not too hard.

I wonder if Antonia and Freddie sit around between takes speaking to each other in their English accents about soccer (er, I mean football!)?

I'm personally hoping that this show can save Max Theriot from his godawful show so he can stop playing an unlikable dickhead and come over onto this show instead. Mostly so I don't have to give SEAL Team another try just for a couple of the actors.

I love, love LOVE David Boreanaz but I couldn't sit through more than the first ten minutes of SEAL Team.  I didn't even know that poor Max was in it as well.

Anyone else notice in the credits before the show that Nestor Carbonell (the Sheriff on Bates Motel) directed this episode?

That opened up my Bates Motel to Good Doctor thought process!  Imagine an episode where a tourist from White Pine Bay, Oregon is admitted to the hospital because she's having trouble with her transplanted lungs!  The mind reels :)

Lauren has the best abs on the team! Were they trying to hide her six pack?

Do you remember in auditions when some of the judges made a comment about Alexandria (I think that was her; she wore a red dress for her solo) looking too muscular?  Kelli answered that the uniform would hide her arms.  I'm wondering if Kelli doesn't like a really "ripped" body and, since you can't hide your abdomen in that uniform, she chose a post of Lauren from the back.  Lauren's face looks really pretty in her cameo; she's one of my new favorites.
