Hallmark also really wasn't known for paying its actors big money.  I remember reading an article that the benefit, especially with an EP credit, was the international distribution money that actors/producers got more of.

Some Hallmark actors may have gone with Abbott to GAC because of his "values" but I think most went for the money.  He offered something Hallmark didn't offer at the time--multi-picture deals and the ability to create or select their own content.  He probably thought having Hallmark's most popular actors would help launch GAC more than they have and offered them a salary to reflect that belief.

Sometimes more is spent in the beginning to try and get something off of the ground.

GAC's contract situation did change how Hallmark acted.  As soon as some people left for GAC, we started hearing about Hallmark signing actors to multi-picture deals.  Maybe that was always the case and they kept it quiet but I just recognized more announcements about actors signing exclusive deals.

I can't imagine that kind of contractual situation with actors is sustainable, if the network is losing money. And Hallmark does allow their actors to spread their wings as far as writing (Paul Campbell & Kimberly Sustad) and producing, like Lacey Chabert and possibly others. I did a drive by of a couple of their movies and the unknown leads were awful. Worse than Ryan Paevy levels of bad. But the worst was that no one had chemistry of any kind. Like they were explicitly told to generate anti chemistry. I don't think Hallmark has much to worry about. The actors that jumped ship? That's another story. I'm betting there's gonna be some serious conversations at GAC this month once final numbers come in for the holiday movie season. Because those Wagon Train reruns ain't keeping the lights on.

  2. Since some of their actors jumped ship to GAF, they've had to start looking for new faces. I don't miss CCB but I was disappointed about Jill Wagner and a couple others. GAF doesn't appear to be doing well ratings wise, they could be gone or rebranded by this time next year. Oh well.

Anyway, I couldn't like My Christmas Guide that much, the boyfriend was such a mustache twirling, mouth breathing fuckstick that I couldn't figure out why she didn't dump his ass when he booked the golf trip. From what I understood, they weren't dating all that long, why didn't she tell him to kick rocks right then? There were a myriad number of red flags, way too many to not make her seem like an idiot for ignoring them. Took me clean out of the story.

I liked more of the Xmas movies than disliked. If I liked the leads and was entertained, I'm good. For me, these movies provide a positivity boost, to counteract the negativity of a lot of the real world, and I need that for my own peace.

  3. My cold dead heart still unapologetically loves love, and I love HM movies and their Xmas movies in particular. The right lead combo and story can take me right to my happy place. I finally caught Round and Round and add me to the loved it list. I'm a closet nerd so I enjoyed the comic store stuff each time.

After re-watching Haul Out the Holly Lit Up, I realized the annoying asshole Johnsons weren't even needed for the story, the writers should've made the B story, the rivalry between Pamela and Ned, the centerpiece. Ned and his resentment of Pamela's continuous cookie contest win could've had the Lane and visitors choosing sides, which would have hampered Jared's proposal plans. Plenty of ways for Pamela and Ned to annoy each other and escalate the feud, culminating in Emily's speech about Xmas at the lane. The Johnsons were completely unnecessary and it annoys me so much time went to them when it could've gone to the original gang.

The Secret Gift of Xmas.....ugh. I could've liked it a lot more if Meghan Ory refused to wear the red lipstick. It was very distracting, and I'm not sure who told her that particular bright shade was her color. Second was the music teacher. Again, ugh. I hate it when they write in a smitten woman who clearly sees the guy is interested in someone else but then gets all territorial and lies about the relationship. And again, she lifted right out of the story, the main issue could've been Meghan's character having big feelings about her father remarrying while she's playing the role of the stepmother in her own romance.

I haven't completely decided if I liked Sealed With A List yet. That will require a rewatch.

So far this season, the most romantic scene for me has been in My Norwegian Holiday when Henrik ran to JJ in the forest despite his leg and scooped her up. 🥰

  4. I call foul on Jasmine and that chef winning. They tore into the wall Egypt & Mike were planning to use, then Jasmine asked for their extra flooring cuz their original choice sucked. And a paper backsplash? Really? Ugh, I'm annoyed now, and worried about who the chosen winner is.

Tonight is Jonathan Knight and Kristina from Farmhouse Fixer doing Barbie's bedroom/en suite vs Alison Victoria and Ty doing a new Ken's Den room. I have no dog in this fight. 🤷🏽‍♀️

  5. I held off watching until I knew if there would be a new season, and since it kicks off Wednesday, I figured I'd catch up today. And wow....

This was...not good. I'm one of the few who sees no sexual chemistry between Nancy and Ace - they give me strong sibling vibes - so the entire next season built around Nace is a big bummer for me. I had to fast forward their pretend sex scene, and then I got confused about it being an hallucination so had to go back and watch part of it. Ugh.

I'm very confused about the whole Temperance arc, how the Frozen Hearts killer got caught up so easily by Temperance, how she even knew it was a trap, blah blah blah. Again, ugh.

I hate that I'm losing interest. Fingers crossed they turn it around for S4.

  6. I knew it was the husband as soon as I saw the actor. I had just watched an early episode of Major Crimes where he played a truly asshole evil boyfriend who drugged his med school girlfriend who ended up in a car accident and killed 3 three people. He was acting kinda like the same character so I said, yep, it's him. 😁

Somebody went up that beam of light at very fast speeds. Nobody came down. So I think it's pretty clear that that beam sucked somebody off and sucked them off good.

    Lol dirty!

I'm going with, it was a trick of the light and somebody came down instead. Unless it was Nigel. He's the only one I could see actually getting sucked off since he still isn't technically part of the main cast. Also, that whole scene with Isaac and Thor and Sass felt kinda like a portent since they kept talking about being with someone forever as ghosts.  It would be awful for Isaac so I do hope someone came down instead.

  9. Janine and Gregory's little 'How was your day' check-in? Too sweet. I half expected Janine to slip and say 'How was your day, honey'  lol. My shipper heart would have really been filled. Still, super cute. 🥰

Vanetta was exactly as I expected her to be. Janine recognizing the sound of her mom's heels was both funny and sad. Taraji was great, it was really good casting. Quinta does kinda favor Taraji. It's the eyes and cheeks. I loved the little boy in Jacob's class doing the meme face at the camera, that was pretty smooth, Jacob. And I loved Ava's genuine glee.

Janine set her boundaries, is still going on her trip, and got to go shopping with Ms. Barbara at the Ross. I love that for our girl! 🥹

  10. They've all pretty much regressed to bored children. Which makes sense to me, they've been dead way longer than they were alive and until a couple years ago, had little interaction with the living. I've said before, I would definitely be fucking with the other ghosts for my own amusement. The only consequence would be having the other ghosts mad at you, but they're a pretty forgiving bunch as we've seen. Hetty had obviously thought about it, to give such a detailed description of what she would've done with Crash's head and Flower accepted that she actually had done it.

I don't hold our little ghost family to the same standards as the livings. After hundreds of years bound to this one place, I would definitely be looking for entertainment regularly. For sure.

    Bored children 😉

  11. This was fun. I'll take a Pony and Bangs spinoff please and thank you.

Jay. I just love him more all the time. And accidentally slapping Trevor instead of high-fiving Pete like he thought, and then telling him he had it coming for romancing his sister was hilarious. And yes, Sam really should update him more often because he is absolutely right about the silences - that's when the drama really starts happening! 😂

Poor Flower, about to take the wrap for Isaac. But I so agreed with her decision to shut Crash up, so it's a wash? 🤷🏽‍♀️🤭

I really want some flashbacks to our ghosts before Sam and Jay arrived.

  12. Man, I just love this show. Except...damn Angie, I'm getting tired of her mess. Honestly if she's going off the deep end, I wish she'd just fuckin jump already. If she's not, then get it together. I don't care enough about her yet to be heavily invested in her spiral so she's starting to annoy me. Plus she couldn't be there for Will, as much as he's been there for her, and he IS who I care about. I'm also fully invested in Faith and Amanda, so Angie wouldn't be a great loss, I can cut her loose real easy.

I think it's that it's a tattoo of Alicia's great aunt (I think that's the relationship?) who looks a lot like Alicia If I were Alicia I'd be worried that Todd's interest was less about 1me and more about whose blood is running through my veins, like is Alicia just another bit of Alberta memorabilia to him? That's what makes it/him not a great catch for her, IMO.

That said, I kinda sorta was rooting for them. I have no clue why.

Wasn't there some dialog about him wanting to clone Alberta? Yeah, that's a deal breaker 😬

  14. I'm convinced Thor talks that way on purpose. Like Sass loving drama, this is Thor's quirk after 1,000 years of being dead. I was completely sure when Pete said 'I've heard you say leather!' We might get a slip-up one day where he thinks he's alone, maybe listening to some hip-hop Jay has Alexa playing, and Thor gets caught dancing and singing the words exactly right. But then just goes back to his regular speech and acts like nothing happened. That would be fun. It could just be Sam that catches him and she doesn't tell the others.

I bet Sass knows though. But just lets it go too, since they've been together so long. I wouldn't mind seeing flashbacks of their time when it was just the 2 of them. In fact, they could have a whole separate thing happening from the other ghosts that came about from their time as a duo. I'm really interested in how our little family ended up together, out of the other ghosts on the property and those who might have been there for a time but got sucked off before Sam and Jay showed up. 😁

  15. Ngl, I cried a little when Alberta and Alicia were dueting. It was lovely, and the other ghosts' reactions as they sang together were just wonderful.

Trevor is truly a bro-tastic good guy. I loved both the way he stood up for himself (know your worth, baby!) and how he was trying to protect Hetty. And, my poor Sass! So disappointed in himself for missing the drama for the last few months. I'm looking forward to his very best petty measures now that he has to catch up lol! 😂

Sam was ruthless in exposing Creepy Todd, but she had to since she was the one who edited the podcasts and made him seem normal. Sorry Todd - I'm sure there's a lock out there somewhere for your particular brand of creepy key, but it ain't Alicia. Keep it moving, my guy 🤷🏽‍♀️

  16. I really like this show. I knew that chick was gonna turn out to be Ms Scammy. She was giving off TikTok influencer and was very low vibrational lol! 😉 IYKYK

So Fay and Anthony give in. I think they do have chemistry, it will be interesting to see if the news comes out quickly. If Sherm finds out first, it's a wrap. I like how they write Wyatt and Kristin's relationship so I hope the writers can avoid the on again/off again trope with Anthony and Fay.

  17. Ooh, I recognized both Haleh from ER and French Stewart right away so, yay me. 😁

French Stewart played a serial killer on NCIS Original Recipe a few years ago, and he looks the same. Fun fact -

    Spoiler

his character is the original owner of McGee's apartment and killed his victims there. He even hid a body under the floorboards they didn't find until after he was in prison. I think it was under McGee and Delilah's bed.

  18. I think the dirty cop was just using the escape to tie up loose ends. He knew his partner was investigating him and knew he had evidence, which he was trying to find. The escapee said the witness worked for him and could give him an alibi so I assumed tv logic rules that the bad cop also knew about the witness and chose then to kill him to pin it on the escapee and Faith. He may not have expected them there so soon but just used them both being there to frame them.

I did like Faith's chemistry with her hostage taker. And after the 'Are you there God, it's me, Faith' line, she then apologized for the bad joke. And that book is still in libraries today, because I think some stupid school just banned it. 😒

And agreed, this is my favorite drama, hands down. Ormewood is still an asshole though, and can get bent anytime. I would rather they bring back the Black dude from the first few episodes that was acting kind of as Angie's sponsor. And more Amanda, please and thank you.

  19. I don't think the charter school storyline is over. This is a setback for Draemond but he seems to be pretty determined so I'm not counting him out yet. I'm guessing his next move will be to the school board, since the parents shot him down.

Everyone was really on their A game, including all the recurring actors. And Erica. Gurl. She heard the pause, Gregory! Don't even play! 😂

  20. Aw I love messy Sass. His instigations have been the source of a lot of laughter for me. I know I'd like to think I'd be a better person in the afterlife, but let's be real. After 500 years of being a ghost, my petty level would be on exactly 500. You can only hear how awful Danes are so many times before you're looking for an outlet 🤷🏽‍♀️

I could totally see him in a Forrest Gump situation where he’s wealthy but does the janitor thing because he enjoys it and isn’t living off that income. He’s had like 18 other careers, maybe he’s got a lot socked away.

More of the teacher with the luscious lashes!

I wouldn't mind finding out he has secretly paid for college tuition for kids he took a shine to throughout his stay at Abbott. I could totally see him doing that. And agreed, I think he keeps working because he likes it. And he likes working at the school and imparting his various conspiracy theories onto the next generations! 😁

  22. I already know what Janine's mom is gonna be like from personal experience and I want to give Janine a hug and find her a replacement mom. I know she's goofy and needy but she has a really good heart and I want all the things for her, I don't care. 😭

I can't tell which one is supposed to be older, I think Ayesha? I was glad she came to visit Janine's classroom, you could tell it meant a lot to Janine.

I love Erica, she is exactly the friend Janine needs. Her being messy about the teacher conference was hilarious and I'm wondering if she will be the one to spill the beans to Jacob in her messiness. I cannot wait for his reaction, y'all know it's gonna be epic! 😂

  23. I liked how everyone kept referring to Parker's dad's great head of hair before we saw him and then, yep, sure enough. Great head of hair. 😁

I wouldn't mind throwaway lines in future episodes about them still visiting the retirement home. That's a nice thread to weave.
