Teenager? Try kindergarten student. Maybe even preschooler. My son (Grade 1) knows better!

I totally forgot that my son had gym today and put him in his regular uniform instead of his gym uniform. Not nearly as bad as tour situation but to a mom, it’s a grave mistake! Good thing it’s frozen dumplings and vegetables for dinner tonight!

Looks like a 30 day delay on our side too. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-trump-speak-trade-war-1.7448805

It’s rebellion. I wonder if he feels like his mom is abandoning him by going away. It all depends on how he behaves at his mom’s. He’s probably upset his parents split in the first place.

Food wrappers in the bedroom? That could attract pests! Ew! Ask him if he wants to sleep with bugs and insects.

43 lb. That's how much my son weighs. He's 6.

There's a list, but supply chain means you can't avoid things 100% as I'm saying over and over.

In addition to no US booze in Ontario, the province is halting business contracts from with the US until tariffs are reversed. Considering supply chain and the complications of reworking temporary deals, it's probably going to affect ALL industries. ETA: And now they're delaying the tariffs on Mexico until March. Nothing for us though.

Lots of people are afraid of speaking up because they think they’ll lose their jobs.

If you just want one or two items from Costco, you can get them online without a membership. At least you can on Instacart.

A local roaster does sell beans from Kenya so yes. I like single origin beans and tend to look for certain tasting notes (anything chocolaty is a plus).

I went to Costco as my mom’s guest once and found it creepy. Maybe it was the location…but I’ll never go back again.

Even Alberta would be blue (and I don't mean it in a Canadian way), I think. Our view of the world and society would basically mean the US would be blue for an entire generation. A lot of my clothes come from Miik or Daub and Design (more the latter lately since I pretty much live in athleisure. ETA: Just came back from grocery shopping and bought salad greens by Paradise Fields (based in Binbrook, ON) rather than Organic Girl (California, I believe). Kefir is also local.

I'm writing an entire piece on how I'm doing at 45 and it includes me feeling unappreciated/under appreciated by the guys (namely my husband and son) in my family when it comes to family meals. It could very well go viral (doubt it) but I wonder whether I'll be heavily criticized by family...my dad LOVES to tell me I should just get help with cooking or be okay with them coming back to have dinner with us most weeknights (NO WAY...)...Ugh, he just doesn't get it.

It'll be a challenge to ONLY buy Canadian due to supply chain. And you'll definitely need to give up coffee, period, since we don't grow our own beans domestically. I do buy coffee from companies that roast here though. Like Pilot (I went to middle and high school with one of the founders).

Here's the full list of retaliation tariffs. Also, my husband is in automotive and he says it could take THREE YEARS for the US to realign the industry so that EVERYTHING, including parts for cars would be made domestically in the US. It's going to get pretty messy.

You mean something like poutine? Not that I know of. I don’t like sweet popcorn though. Just plain salt is fine for me. Several provinces are removing US alcohol from stores. BC is only doing red states for some reason but Ontario is removing everything.
-
I’m still unsure whether to turn this into a drinking game (Canadian booze only) or not. Or maybe stay sobre and just do popcorn.

Watched Justin Trudeau’s response to the tariffs last night and he said he tried to reach You Know Who and hasn’t heard back. As of this morning, there’s been nothing from the US side on the retaliation tariffs we’re doing. https://www.cp24.com/politics/2025/02/02/canada-retaliating-for-trumps-tariffs-with-25-per-cent-tariffs-on-billions-of-us-goods-justin-trudeau/

Good thing I have a bag of frozen chicken and tons of frozen produce. I might not have to do much grocery shopping.

Let’s hope. My little guy is only 6 so I guess I shouldn’t be too worried about his education fund…

How long do you think this trade war will last? It’s not just going to affect the consumer but the stock market as well. Not looking forward to Monday. My portfolio, my husband’s and my son’s university fund.

…and we STILL don’t know what things are being tariffed and whether there are any exemptions. He’s golfing in Florida and doing zero work from what I understand https://www.cp24.com/politics/2025/02/01/live-updates-canada-braces-for-trumps-tariffs/

@Dimity Regarding stereotypes of people of my ethnic background, I think you forgot "raging shopaholic." :D
