  1. Abi might be high maintenance but she's controllable. Just feed into her delusions and let her think she's in charge.

I'm not sure that's true.  Or at least not as easy as it sounds.  She was ready to toss Varner out this week. If PG had played her differently, Jeff would have secret-messaged himself right out of the game.

And in PG's defense, there's no way to know how to play her correctly except in hindsight. Even if Abi's still with you, she will blow up your game and expose your plans just so she can feel superior to whomever she's talking to.

Anyone who tries to bring Abi along the whole way is going to get burned. This isn't a Katie from Pulau.

Now you folks need to excuse me -- I need to go fetch a bag of bell peppers and whole bunch of rice.

  2. I'm fine with believing Abi is a kind and generous person in the real world. I'll likely never meet her, so I'll defer to those who have.

It's the cartoon villain Survivor Abi that I find boring and repugnant. I don't wish anyone any lasting harm, but I would find a humiliating blindside (sorry, #blindside) satisfying television.

Since almost none of us have any other experience with Abi, it's easy to think of her as That Person.  (Also: forgive me, cooks, but since you DO have experience with Abi Actual, your perception of Survivor Abi may be skewed from what the rest of us are working with.)

I hope Abi has a long and happy life, surrounded with friends and loved ones. I also hope she gets kicked out of Survivor in an embarrassing and humbling way and CBS loses her phone number.

  3. I don't find a Southern accent particularly attractive.  When I hear Jeff speak I don't hear 'southern' so much as I hear 'effeminate'.   Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Y'all can bite me.  It's sexy as hail.

  4. Am I remembering right that Jeff was criticizing Spencer and Shirin last week for playing too hard?  Not that they weren't, but he's probably not the best person to cast stones for that.

  5. Did we have a legit Ciera sighting?  She was sitting upright and talking!  I guess she feels better.

Good.  I liked her before, even though she overpraises herself for voting out her mom in BvW2: Pig in the City.

  6. Just to be an equal opportunity creeper, I think the best looking women are Brenda Lowe, Colleen Haskell, and Jenna Morasca. I find it a little harder to pick out attractive women, though, since so many of them look really similar to me. If you showed me a picture of Jesse from Africa, Monica from Samoa/this season, and Julie from Vanuatu, I don't think I could say with 100% certainty which was which. Same with Dolly from Vanuatu, Jefra from Cagayan, and Angie from the Philippines.

    !!!

You have besmirched Jefra, varlet!  Where is my gauntlet?

  7. Abi is a terrible person to have around and everyone hates her. This, along with her being really bad at challenges, makes her the perfect candidate to drag around to the finals (a'la Big Brother).

The problem is that Abi is a repeater station for every secret plan and alliance move. If she blows up her friends as well as her enemies (and everyone is eventually both), it's not worth the risk.  Cut Abi loose and make friends with Monica. IMHO

  8. That's cool if it really worked for him.  I wish we could have seen it, but it might have dampened some conversations if the others noticed a film crew pointing a camera behind a Surprisingly Dense Bush.

It seems like there was one scene that did show him doing it, overhearing Kass and Spencer or something.  I assume it was a long shot.  But since a lot of conversations happened out in the water, I figured they all knew and left Tony squatting alone behind his bush.

  9. I apologize if this has come up in the past.  I couldn't find it, but I'm still working on my coffee.

In Cagayan, was Tony's spy shack really as clandestine as he thought?  Or did everyone know it was there and were just playing along?  I've been meaning to rewatch, but I'm having my fill of Spencer and company right now.

  10. After my initial enthusiasm for Big Steve Fishbahhk's position after the coming swap, I'm now thinking he still goes soon.  I've caught up on his grumpiness after people were laughing at his first episode. I think he wouldn't be grumpy about that if he went deep and ended up playing a good game.

  11. Happily, it seems like there's a much more layered and nuanced game going on behind the bright lights of Abi's childishness.

Unhappily, it looks like we won't be seeing any of it as long as Abi's still on TV.

  12. This link to inside survivor shows the new tribe divisions.  First glance, looks like Jeremy could be in trouble.

I agree. I think Stephen and Spencer team up immediately. If Jeremy isn't holding some kind of grudge against Stephen wondering about him disappearing after The Savage Story Corner, he might join in. If not, then S&S can maybe activate Monica or Kimmi and Jeremy gets to hang with Vytas and Shirin.

Wigles appears to me to be an army of one. She does not seem to be catching on to how the game is played now, and doesn't look to be working to figure it out. If someone can secure her vote, they'll likely keep it because it's too much effort to switch alliances.

And I may be totally wrong. I can't wait. I love this show.

  13. Oh my, Abi and PG still on the same tribe, along with Jeff the shit stirrer and Tasha who has a pretty strong personality. This should be a fun tribe.  I can't wait to see how Savage interacts with these people.

Savage will be fine once he tells them he loves his supermodel wife.

  14. It took Abi about 4 seconds to show why she's a terrible alliance member.  When she was smugly telling Shirin that she or Spencer were totally going home and no one is on their side any more, I was expecting the plan to blow up.  We saw Shirin and Spencer scrambling (fortunately for Abi, to no avail), but if Abi had kept her trap shut, those two would have hung out all afternoon, completely assured they were in charge.

I understand getting rid of Vytas first. And I understand taking a goat with you to the end. But this isn't Phillip R Us. the longer you keep Abi close, the more damage you're going to absorb when she finally goes -- she'll expose your entire plan while trying to smugly tell someone that she's popular.

  15. I was speculating on here somewhere that maybe Shirin's story on S30 would make people reluctant to vote her off early.  Seems silly now.  Turns out her story from World's Apart blew up in her face, bit her on the ass, and made her look like a hypocrite.

    Oh well. Bye, Shirin.

  16. The only reason I'm hoping Abi makes it to the jury is so she can bust chops about her bracelet at FTC.

I've never had much opinion about Terry one way or the other.  His challenge run in Panama was amazing, but he did seem to be one fluffy pornstache away from channelling Magnum P.I.  I remember him being a little condescending to then-24-year-old Danielle.

I'm trying to forget what I know about everyone for S31, since people do change. Maybe mid-50s Terry will be different.  After one episode, I'm able to maintain that for everyone who isn't freaking out about the world's ugliest bracelet.

  17. Keith is a much more entertaining agent of chaos than effin' Kass. I wouldn't be surprised if he screws up a vote because Spencer tells him "Tasha" is spelled K-I-M-M-I

  18. Terry at least won a whole batch of individual immunities on his season and seemed capable of talking to other people. Smugness is obnoxious, but at least he does have some bona fide Survivor accomplishments.

What gets under my skin about HashtagKaosKass is that she seriously overestimates her mad skilz at affecting the game. Switching alliances isn't exactly a breathtaking development that leaves everyone gasping. Deliberately pissing people off isn't a brilliant new strategy.  We've seen it all before and it's going to get dull quickly.

Someone prod me when she does something other than give snotty interviews.

  19. Good opening episode.  I'm glad to have Survivor back.

My only complaint is that it could have been a regular one-hour episode without losing anything substantial.  Braceletgate could have been lifted right out, for example. After the marooning, it was an hour before we saw Probst again.

Or perhaps I'm just annoyed that much of that extra half-hour was spent listening to the bitter crap-fountain that is Abi.

Anyway, it was good to see everyone again. Mostly. Ready for next week!

  20. I was reminded of how much I disliked Andrew Savage in his season, he seems not to have changed a bit.

I thought Savage was a tool the first time through Pearl Islands. After rewatching, I softened towards him a bit.  In fact, I softened towards anyone who had to deal with Lil. She would have had be ripping huge strips of bark off trees with my teeth.

But that was like 12 years ago.  Seeing how he's mellowed (if he has) now that he's in his 50s is one of the reasons I'm so excited to get this underway.

  21. I agree with pretty much all that.  And that is a good point about Shirin interacting with the other Survivors between the filming and the broadcast.

But I think what the other cast members who were around her 24/7 (and around Will/Dan 24x7 for that matter) are irrelevant. While there are a few Fairplays out there who would and did relish the public outrage (if that's the right word), I think most people wouldn't want to be viewed as the thickheaded misogynists Will and Dan were depicted as. Whatever actually happened with the Dirty Thirty, you never know how the edit will turn out.

Maybe it manifests in different ways, if it manifests at all. But given the reunion and how that went down and season 31 beginning immediately, I would be surprised if it wasn't on anyone's mind.

Or maybe I need to drink more coffee before I turn my computer on in the mornings :)  At last it's almost upon us.
