Yeah, realizing now that I shouldn't have said organic material.    I meant her powers don't work on people/animals.  So plants can be manipulated but she can't do anything to a person.

Heard Kirkman on a podcast stipulate that for the series, she can't manipulate LIVING organic material(you appear to be a comic reader,so you know why). Thus, she could turn a handful of leaves into coffee.

Rewatching the creation of the treehouse , she doesn't actually use or alter the tree to build it, she builds around it, basically turning air/oxygen molecules into pieces  of (dead)wood or whatever other materials she uses in its construction. But the living tree remains under it unchanged.

I just realized that aside from "Black Panther", which had a questionable finale, most of the MCU productions in the past six years have either been likable, yet mediocre; or just terrible.  And most of them - including this series - have been badly overrated.  Disney/Marvel has really managed to brainwash a lot of movie and television fans, using the media.  At least it seems that way to me.

Nothing egocentric about that at all....

Or, just maybe, other people have different taste and opinions than you do. They haven't been "brainwashed".😒

Also, the new costume really Disappointed me. Honestly. I really liked the idea of the Wakandan design being married to the while, red and blue, and then they did the cheesiest and ugliest costume possible instead. Big let down.

    +1

I'll give them credit for the fact that it is pretty comics accurate, but it didn't translate that well to live action for me.

Tbh, though, I only consider it a mediocre looking costume in the comics.

  4. Up until now, I have loved Amber and found her a big improvement over the comics.

    You just lost me here.

Seriously, you're 17 years old, most teen relationships don't go the distance. How long have they even been dating? How soon do you think that you are entitled to the MASSIVE and life altering secret that Mark is a superhero and an alien? That's a lifelong commitment to some extent, even if you break up he needs to be able to trust that you can handle it. It's also putting a huge burden on whoever he shares it w/.

While I find the trope of heroes hiding their identities for extended periods of time, in the name of protecting whoever the are withholding it from, tiresome; I also feel that person is being unreasonable when they act as if they are inherently entitled to immediately know that secret, especially if it goes to the point that they still angry when the hero does come to the point of telling them.

I guess they could have been waiting for him. Of course the whole idea of his buddy who's worried about going to prison for some reason calling the police and reporting that while he was working in an illegal drug manufacturing plant he saw his friend kill someone... umm?

Regardless, awfully prescient of the SWAT team or CIA death squad or whoever they are to show up with dirtbikes. You know, just in case their suspect shows up on a dirtbike and then manages to escape and flee on it.

This show really is just all over the place.😒

Omg. For just a split second I thought it was Harmony before we got a good look at her, something about her voice. But then Anya didn't even register to me, and I've always been a huge Anya fan.

I liked it too. Yeah it was rather contrived and a bit too much of a coincidence, but I didn't really mind because it fits into the greater themes of the show. When you do bad things you end up just hurting yourself in the long term, but when you do good things good things happen to you, even if it takes awhile. It has a very karmic sort of theme going on.

Loved it. Let's face it, Kumiko literally spelled out the karmic theme for us a couple of times, so it makes sense. Great that they could bring back the original actor. Interesting note, she went on to won a Miss Hawaii contest in the '90s.

One thing that gave me a chuckle(I'm paraphrasing)

Daniel- "I think maybe I should buy you a drink"

Girl- "I should think so, I am about to save your business"

I mean, he did save your life. If we're keeping score like that, you might wanna buy the first round or five.😁

I watched the second Kreese flashback and it still kind of bugs me. Because the first flashback was 1965 and the Vietnam one was 1968. So that's three years of Kreese having to fall in line with army chain of command and taking orders from people whether he likes them or not. And I just don't see him being able to do that.

Also was it just me because the Vietnam scenes looked super super low budget. I mean come on Netflix, can't you like spare some props or costumes or B-roll footage from Da 5 Bloods?

Season 3 was filmed before Netflix picked it up, so they were working on that YouTube Red budget.

It's not really that strange to me.  Amanda and Carmen aren't actually friends.  (Unless I'm missing something...?) They're in each others' orbit only because of her husband and Johnny. So unless Miguel told Sam what's going on with his mom & his sensei, and then in turn, Sam told her mom, why would Amanda be keeping tabs on Carmen?

But, I wouldn't mind a genuine friendship between the two since there are few female friendships on this show. Maybe with the alliance at the end of S3, Carmen and Amanda will bond if "their men" do in fact become friends in whatever fashion that entails.

That's exactly what i mean by strange. I would imagine Ali would have to have brought it up

     "So, is Johnny seeing anyone"

The response would have to be something along the lines of

""Honestly, I would have no idea. We bumped into him at dinner last May and he was on a date and we ate together, but I have no clue if they are still(or were ever, really) together"

It is a big reveal but not shocking to me.

Above all else, this is why I always wanted Ali back. Johnny, through this show, got a chance to show that he was more than the ultimate 80s bully. We got to see his side. Ali never got that chance and it's one of the shittiest ways to write out a beloved character I've ever seen. And because Shue wasn't available for filming, we never even got to see her again.

I also don't believe that what Ali says here was the original intention. It's the show rehabbing a very shitty writing decision. Which I'm totally fine with.

I hope they never bring in Robin Lively from part 3. There is nothing there to examine or revisit. They had her friend zone Daniel after seemingly being really into a date with him and wrote her off before the tournament. Like why even have this character here? They didn't want Daniel to fall in love AGAIN but why write that character in the way they did initially or not have her be there for Daniel as a friend?

I'm also curious about Silver because the actor has made it clear that he has retired and has no interest in acting again. He could just be blustering or faking to preserve a secret. Who knows. You also have actors like the sheriff from Twin Peaks that flat out refused to come back for the revival because he was legit done with acting and away from hollywood.

Lastly, I just realized how wrong it feels to write Daniel's name as Danny in the case of Larusso. Just feels wrong. I guess because Miyagi never called him Danny.

Oh, I would definitely not assume that was their original intention for Ali, the movie just took the simplest and quickest route to explain her absence that made Daniel look sympathetic, and ready to love w/ Kumiko. Glad they have used this opportunity to change that and reveal that we were misled by in unreliable narrator

From what I've read, they weren't opposed so much to Daniel falling in love again, as much as once the role was cast and they got to filming, they became very uncomfortable w/ filming a romance(including kissing scenes) between, iirc, a 16yr old and a 27?yr old(not sure of the ages, but seems like it was 10+ years or something of that nature), so they rewrote that part during filming.

I wouldn't mind a cameo as someone Daniel had maintained a friendship w/, or even that she became friends w/ Amanda and include her in that way. But, no, i don't think she would offer much in the way of a person showing up from the past, that now offers Daniel some kind of new perspective on his life or some sense of closure from an unresolved issue.

  11. Biggest reveal of this season that i haven't seen mentioned yet-

For 30+ years we've believed that Ali dumped Daniel for some football player at UCLA(which always seemed a little strange and out of character to me)

It turns out that Daniel was just a jealous, insecure dumbass who ruined that relationship himself.

Oh of course. That could happen. But, they also had that little hand touch in okinawa that could have been hinting at things that ultimately were nothing. I think there was an air of oh what could have been with Daniel and both of his exes but I don't think they will do anything with it.

But, I love Amanda clocking the two hugs because I did too. It didn't anger her but she saw it and Daniel without any hesitation threw that possible concern away.

Ali ended up being more like their Christmas angel than another source of conflict. Thank God for that. Daniel and Johnny fall apart at the end of every season. Finally we end with them united.

I think the writers were clearly trying to give us a series of misdirects this season

    1. The very Kreese-esque jock(played by his son who looks very much like him) turning out not to be Kreese, but his bully.

    2. "Ponytail" getting killed, and Kreese's other fellow soldier being Terry Silver.

    3. The hand touch in w/ Kumiko went nowhere. And angry Chozen turned out to him pulling Daniel's leg and being just the opposite.

    4. Johnny and Ali were clearly headed for a kiss before she got her phone alert, which had me dreading some Johnny/Carmen/Ali triangle, or even just Carmen getting some wrong impression and messing up her relationship w/ Johnny, which would surely sour his relationship w/ Miguel. Which, honestly, wouldn't have been fair to Johnny. Carmen just showed up at his place and threw herself on him the night before, to expect any type of commitment from that is a bit presumptuous(and i say that as someone who was hoping for them to repair their relationship all season).

I think, from Ali's last words, that's not a threat now. The both seem to have come to the idea that they have gotten closure, let the past be the past and move forward. Credit again to Amanda, since she filled Ali in on Carmen(which seems to have turned the tide for Ali). Although it is a little strange since as far as Amanda knows, her and Daniel had dinner w/ Johnny and Carmen like 8-9 months ago and she knows nothing of whether they are together or anything that had happened since.

    5. Also, Miguel describing his miracle doctor from out of state, and the short glimpse we get of that Dr. when Carmen is called to speak to her at the end of ep. 3, she is a dead ringer for Elizabeth Shue(and I guess it still could have been her, but it would be strange at this point that she didn't recognize Miguel in Johnny's Facebook posts as her patient, or that the connection wasn't put together in some way. That was one of my big concerns, in true tv trope fashion, Johnny shares a kiss w/ Ali, then the next day Carmen asks Johnny to accompany her and Miguel on a follow up visit w/ his surgeon, who turns out to be... 😒. Everything implodes for Johnny!)

I think the stunt doubles for the older actors like Kove, Macchio, and Zabka must have been a Covid19 restriction guideline because two actors are in their 50s and one is in his 70s. While in the first two seasons before the pandemic, they did do those stunts themselves and even though they are not karate expert in those seasons, it was still contact among individuals. I would not have been shocked at all if it was a meeting decision to make sure the actors are not put in harm's way. While the other two younger actors are karate trained and engaged in these stunts, I would not be shocked if some meeting went on when the pandemic was in full force.

    Nope.

Season three was filmed in 2019. Post production was pretty much completed by the time lockdown went into effect. It sat for an extended length because 1. It had to find a new home and land on Netflix, and 2. Netflix then wanted to give subscribers ample time to view the previous 2 seasons and build up anticipation and buzz for season three.

Stunt doubles are because those guys are old, slow, and at risk of injury.

The kids, oh man the kids. It's very clear to me that when they did the casting for this show they seriously went for karate ability over acting ability.

Also a more petty nitpick but this took me right out of the show....when they showed Kreese in Vietnam, one of his war buddies had super long hair. No that would never in a million years have happened. That doesn't happen in the military now, it would especially not happen back them, particularly because the military was so again hippie culture and hair like that was associated with it. They couldn't just hire an actor for that very small part with short hair....come on!

Lol, most of those kids are have no particular talent for karate and are generally unathletic. Any deficiencies you find in their acting has nothing to do with being chosen for karate skills and everything to do w/ the fact this show started on YouTube w/ a more limited budget and was less likely to draw the caliber of talent that one would imagine it could do now.

I get the criticism of the hair, it seemed a little weird to me too. I believe they were trying to set up the impression that it was a young Terry Silver(his ponytail being the most memorable feature many fans remember about him), so they could pull a switch and kill him and have the other friends turn out to be Terry. Basically the same thing they did when they introduced young Kreese in the first flashback.

But, it's a tv show. I don't really care. I find myself not really caring at all about "in the real world you can't do this" aspects that always comes up these days. Just watching and enjoying. I enjoy talking about certain elements that beg questioning but it's not something I spend any time getting mad about or quitting a show over. Shows lose me when I don't care anymore. I very much still care about these characters.

    ^This.

It makes for interesting conversation, but doesn't ruin the show for me.

  16. I get the complaints about the lack of police intervention, but I'm just letting my suspension of disbelief take over. It really seems to be a conflict between the shows desire to up the stakes when it comes to the rivalry and violence between this kids and the point where any rational solution would be to call the police(which would totally mess w/ the dynamic of the show). I think it really hits that point the first time when the Cobra Kai's beat the shit out of the little kid and steal like a thousand dollars raised at the car wash. Who in the real world wouldn't call the police for that? Kids getting in fights is one thing, but violent robberies and breaking into people's houses and attacking them is another. They try to kind of wave the whole idea of police intervention of when Amanda goes to the police and basically play it as Kreese outsmarting them, but there are multiple actual crimes w/ witnesses that no one bothers to report.

Let's face it, if we wanna get real, Amanda wouldn't need to try and get Kreese shut down. With all his "finish them" crap, he'd be shut down in days. How many parents are going to ignore their children coming home w/ their faces beat to a bloody pulp by bare knuckle punches? And I'm fairly certain he isn't getting parental consent or liability waivers when he goes out recruiting. What does basketball girl tell her parents after going home w/ broken tooth?

"I got it at karate class when i was down on the ground defenseless and the instructor told my opponent to finish me"

     "Wait, karate what?"

(And i really doubt a kid that was just kicked out after 10 minutes for losing a match would have any motivation to cover for anyone)

The whole timeline gets a little wonky. Especially w/ Miguel's rehab. I'm pretty sure the last 3 episodes take place over the course of 48 hours.

In other news, the new motel is 100% nicer than the old one and I don't begrudge Johnny and Moira upgrading their accommodations to a nicer room. The fleabag hole in the wall they've been living in for the past five seasons looks absolutely horrible. Jocelyn and Roland have their own home even if they are renting out a room. Though I do wonder if Johnny is making enough money off the motel business to afford a nice apartment somewhere else.

Move into that room permanently? No way, that would be totally inappropriate. The fact that Jocelyn and Roland have their own home is completely irrelevant, they paid for that. Johnny took the Schitt's money to get the new motel, for them to then take what should be the most profitable room in either motel and permanently occupy it and deprive the business of the revenue it would bring in is totally wrong. If they had bought the motel themselves, that's fine, it's their choice. But totally wrong if you have a partner. Taking any room at that motel as an "upgrade" would be wrong. The Schitt's invested in a 20 room or whatever it was motel, to turn around decide it's only a 19 room one is completely unethical.

  21. The whole "you can look at one page" auction makes no sense. First, if the book were that popular, they would be infinitely better served finding a publisher or even self publishing and then selling the original pages off one at a time. Second, wtf are they partying like rock stars for? Their top bid at one point is 6k, they rented a suite at a convention in Chicago(which would be at least a 2 night minimum, probably 3) so they've probably spent at least $1,500 on just that room, easily more. Even with the 20k they took, they maybe have enough to start cleaning and renovating that fucking house and making it livable, definitely not paying off any student loans. If they are excited by cash, they would make at least 10 times that if they just sold the house. Third, who the fuck is going to accept the whole "one page" bullshit and still bid on it?
