…Is telling someone to be nice to themselves using third person grammar a currently hip thing to do?

Or is something else going on?

Using the third person is very common when it comes to self-help or therapy these days.  I'm not sure why.  Maybe it makes it more personal?  Or it helps the person to look at themselves from an outside perspective?

Stacy is really hard-looking and I think it’s partly because her makeup is … bad. Her foundation is a shade too light, her blush is too dark … she needs a makeunder.

Does anyone know if this show has a makeup artist?  For the pods portion, at least?  Because if they don't, it might be a good idea to hire one because both Stacy and Taylor's makeup is pretty harsh.

  3. I get JP not being into the whole tiktok makeup look that Taylor was sporting but OMG, there were so many more tactful ways to go about expressing that.  Instead of saying her makeup looked horrible, he should have emphasized how pretty she looked without makeup and said (in a nice, non-judgmental tone), "Why were you even wearing all that makeup?  You're so pretty that you don't need it."  The fact that he basically stopped talking to her because of her makeup is bonkers.  Who does that?  I feel like the issues he had with his mom growing up have really left him with some messed up views of women (or at the very least, some unconscious misogyny).  It's one thing to have a preference but to demand that your partner cater to that preference (especially one that deals with how they look), is insane.  And how on earth did Taylor not bring up JP's plethora of patriotic clothing when he insulted her makeup?  My husband kept referring to him as Captain America, since he only seems to wear red, white and blue.

  4. Is it just me or do all the couples suck this season?  I thought JP and Taylor had a chance but her saying "looks don't matter to me anymore" after seeing him (unless they edited that and she said that while they were still in the pods) is not a good sign.  Also, I find it kind of ironic that she's not into him physically because although neither of them are the hotness, JP to me is average whereas Taylor (with all her lip filler and whatever else she's had done), is slightly below.

Then we have Uche and Aaliyah, with him giving all the red flags already and while sweet, Aaliyah seems a little sad since she stuck around even after how rude he was to her over the cheating thing.  Then there's the entire Lydia situation...

Which brings me to Lydia and Milton, they're just not going to last.  He seems very nice and sincere but Lydia's got a lot going on there and she just doesn't scream "stable".

Izzy and Stacy I guess could work?  I don't know.  There just didn't seem to be much there but maybe that means they'll be drama free?  They're just so forgettable that I can't really root for them.

I'd like to know who Renee was talking to because she's had a lot of screentime in the women's living area but we've seen basically zero of her in the pods.

When I was in college, I ran into a good number of guys who had recently read or were reading The Art of War.  I think it's just a phase a lot of guys go through.  Makes them all feel grown up and manly.  LOL.  The fact that Sunny is impressed by it makes me roll my eyes so hard.

    I think that was Miriam.

Interesting that they actually post a full cast list when we never actually see or hear anything about the majority of them.

Someone on Twitter posted how sad it would be to have been cast but not featured. You'd take the time off work, tell your friends/family about it, and then be relegated to a brief profile shot in episodes 1&2. Like the man who loves fishing.

IMHO, the minimum age limit should be 30.

Honestly, I think the ideal would be that you came on the show, met someone, got engaged but then were deemed not interesting enough for the show to want to continue filming you, which would free you and your new significant other to explore your relationship without all the cameras and married in four weeks timeline.

I think 30 is a little old but I'd be fine if it was 25 and up.  I feel that 25-35 would be the best age range for this show.  Old enough to have some life experience and an idea of what you want in a partner but young enough that you can still have kids.

  7. Finally got around to watching this with my husband last night.  We both felt so bad for Aaliyah.  I get how her cheating in the past was a red flag for Uche but as others have said, he should have told her that he was going to need a day to process and decide if he wanted to continue with their relationship.  He seemed to take her cheating personally, which makes me wonder if he's been cheated on in the past.  He was just so angry about it that I feel there has to be more going on there.  Also, I feel that he should have asked about the cheating thing earlier, if he was going to view it as a dealbreaker.

On the Chris reveal, this is why I do not understand people who let their minor children go on trips with no adult supervision.  Why were he and his friend in Mexico by themselves at that age?  There is no way in hell I'd let any of my kids do that.  And yes, it is crazy to me how often sexual assault on males (and just sexual pressure in general) is often overlooked.

Altho the golden bachelor seems like a perfectly nice man, I wish the women would decide they don’t need a man to make them happy and would take off together to have adventures as girlfriends.

I'm a little confused by this comment.  It's a dating show.  They most likely signed up because they wanted to be on TV or because they thought it sounded like fun.  All the contestants are in their 60s and 70s, so it's not like they're looking to get married and start families.  No one is forcing them to do this and even with the usual Bachelor/Bachelorette contestants, most of them are just looking for 15 minutes of fame, not love.

Why did Joy's mother send the wedding dress to Charles's apartment?  Hasn't Joy told her the wedding is off?  Hmm...

She'd probably already sent it before Joy told her they'd broken up.  Not sure what the timeline is but I'm guessing the entire season only covers a week or two.

Nobody will ever be good enough for her little angel & I pity any girl that he even takes home to meet mommy dearest.

Sunny is one of the most ironically nicknamed people that I have ever come across.  To be fair though, why does her son keep bringing these girls home?  He knows his mom is just going to give them the side eye and bad mouth them later.  Just spare everyone the headache unless it's serious, Gabriel.

  11. A round of applause to all of us on the board who figured out that Ben was talking to a cookie and then wrote "f**ing pig" on the mirror due to cookie guilt (Was it obvious?  Yes, but I'm choosing to ignore that and pretend that we're all just murder mystery geniuses).

I'm guessing that Donna did poison Ben's cookie (though I'm not sure if she was trying to kill him.  Maybe just make him sick enough that he'd have to drop out of the show?) but that Tobert will end up being the one who shoves Ben down the elevator shaft.  Ben probably decided he didn't want to do the documentary anymore after his near death experience, which infuriated Tobert since he finally had an interesting story to film.

I laughed so hard at the exchange between Oliver and the "five whores" when he handed them the ladder.  That, followed by the reveal that one had actually been a hooker and Oliver's "WTF?" response had me dying.

  12. I'm also thinking that the producer mom is involved with one of Ben's deaths and her motive's got something to do with her son.  I'm also starting to wonder if Ben might have accidentally poisoned himself on opening night?  Perhaps he put something on some food (cookies?) to stop himself from eating it, then just gave into temptation anyway?  Or accidentally ingested the poison somehow?

The critic being involved is an interesting theory.  Maybe Ben had paid her off for a good review, then changed his mind after almost dying and when he tried to go back on the deal, she pushed him down the elevator shaft?

It’s confusing that actors (like Leslie Jones) are ok with appearing on talk shows to promote their other projects, yet someone like Drew Barrymore can’t film shows even though it means her crew doesn’t get paid. I’m not judging either side, just pointing out that I’m confused about what crosses the line.

Honestly, I feel people have gotten very "mob rule" about this entire strike.  It's ridiculous to me that people are mad at Drew Barrymore because she was going to continue her show without her writers.  She employees three writers.  So because of three people who are on strike, a bunch of other people (who can't get work anywhere else right now because of the two strikes going on, even though they're not on strike) can't work.  And what gets me is that when others bring up that The View didn't stop taping despite the strike, people go, "Oh, that's because it's a news show, so it's okay."  LOL.  Please.  The View might be under the news division at ABC, but it is not and has never been a news show.  This entire thing is just getting ridiculous.

seems to me that Whoopi is the only one who is actually an actress, so, whether their specific contract is different or not, i think she should honor the strike and not be on.  but maybe that's partly because i like the show better without her.

People are wanting talk shows to shut down because of the writers' strike, not the actors' strike, so Whoopi's not going anywhere unless they shut down completely.

Throwing out a theory a friend of mine has: Tobert did it. Glen wasn't killed by a fan of himself, but a superfan of Mabel who was giving her a new mystery to solve for the podcast.

That's actually a really good theory except that it's so close to what they did last season (murder to provide podcast content) and I doubt they're going to repeat themselves two seasons in a row.

It’s sort of too obvious at this point to be Dickie, but the fact that he sold all of the memorabilia “to make a buck off of his brother’s death” (as he accused others of) but spent $7,000 to get a piece of murder evidence out of circulation—and also didn’t like the idea of Mabel poking around and reopening a “closed case” does seem like a very major clue…or a major red herring. Likewise, Dickie is definitely Loretta’s child and the scrapbook is keeping tabs on him, not Ben.

As I see it, since Dickie came up with the CoBro idea, he probably felt entitled to all the money that was to be made off of Ben's memorabilia.  There was obviously some resentment there, so why not sell it and get what he's owed?  At the same time, he also misses his brother, so I can see why he'd pay $7,000 (which he has readily after just selling all the CoBro merch) for the last thing his brother held.

  17. The second they showed that childhood drawing and said that Ben had come up with the CoBro idea, I knew it was really going to be Dickie's drawing.  Don't think he's the killer (though he's definitely Loretta's son) though.  I'm assuming he paid $7,000 for the handkerchief because, as Uma said in the intro, after people die, you hold onto the things that remind you of them.

My guess for the murder right now is the producer mother/son team.  Maybe mother's protecting their sons is going to be a theme this season?  So the producer mom killed Ben because he was going to mess up her son's first production in some way and she wasn't having it?

Minor gripe: Mabel pretending that she was a CoBro fan when talking to Dickie at the auction.  She was a big Girl, Cop fan, so why not bring that up instead?  Also, I would have liked it better if when Theo told her he was a CoBro fan, instead of just calling him a nerd she had said, "It's cool. I'm into Girl, Cop, so I can't judge."  Would have been a nice moment.  Also, I'm hoping that Theo ends up being Mabel's endgame in the romance department.  I enjoy their relationship and how it's been built up over the course of the show and it would be a nice ending for both of them that wouldn't feel forced.

Paul's mother was on my nerves this entire episode.  She gets all dressed up and fancy to catch a midday drink with Micah and proceeds to trash Paul's new relationship (which sounds very new).  And later she is still pushing Micah on him even telling him to beg.  What the hell sort of mother tells her son to beg a woman to get back with him.  Especially when that woman in Micah.  Ugh.  I love that he didn't mention the new girl's name.  I hope she insisted on that for her own sanity.

During the season, I was baffled by Paul's attraction to Micah, since he was very eco-granola and she was very vapid, high maintenance.  Then I saw his mother and thought, "Ah, I get it now", which honestly makes his comments about not being able to see Micah as a mother very telling.  So yeah, of course Paul's mother loves Micah.  She's a younger version of herself, in all her awful glory.

  19. Count me in with those who think Loretta is Dickie's birth mom.  All the pics in the scrapbook had him in the background and I'm guessing all the articles mention him too.  I doubt Meryl Streep is hanging around for another season, so as much as I'm enjoying her and Oliver's romance, she's either a killer or they're going to break up for some other reason.

Speaking of break-ups, I felt so bad for Joy when she realized Charles hadn't meant to propose.  That was heartbreaking!  Maybe Charles will get his act together and can win her back but I don't blame her if she's done with him.

And while we're on the subject of relationships, is it really necessary for Mabel to have a love interest every season?  They're mostly terrible, have no chemistry with Mabel and she always ends up looking kind of dumb because she chooses the shadiest character to get involved with.  I mean, come on, Tobert isn't giving her creeper vibes?

If Ben does turn out to be twins, then I'm guessing there's going to be two murderers this season.  Or, Ben faked his death at the theater for press and then got for real murdered later.

  20. I find it odd that Charles wouldn't be aware of all of Joy's crazy until now since they've already been dating a year but I'll just hand wave that away.   I do agree that Ben most likely wrote the pig comment himself after he ate an entire plate of cookies (or some other dessert).

My theory right now is that Ben faked his own death at the theater as a way to get press and spice up the documentary, then later someone actually murdered him at the Arconia.  The brother is my lead suspect, just because they haven't concentrated on him very much.  Maybe after years of Ben's nonsense he just snapped?  Or Ben found out that he was also going to represent Loretta and didn't like that?

Also, am I the only one who was surprised that Selena Gomez and Ashley Park are only a year apart?  I assumed Park was closer to 40 but she's only 32.
