I have always been completely at a loss as to what producers and test audiences found so compelling about her in the pilot that it was decided to keep her around rather than have her die as originally planned.  Liking Carol as the show went on, I understand, but whatever special something people got out of what we saw of her in the pilot I have never been able to see.

Carol annoyed me pretty much all through her tenure on the show, then she irritated me when she returned in the last season. So did Doug Ross.

  2. Season 6, Carter and his cousin's ex-wife. It's kind of icky, but then add in Carter getting into her business by asking Corday about her mastectomy. Creepy.

Also, the whole Gabe Lawrence plot line.

I can give them a pass on the poorly performed CPR since ER usually used actors and not dummies for the patient and doing real CPR on someone can easily break their ribs.  Not so good.

I wish they'd have faked CPR rather than doing it incorrectly -- with horizontal arms, for instance. But that's the kind of thing that I just find absurd.

More stuff -- the wildly inappropriate behavior of some staff members. Hello, Luka and Abby.

Remember all the way back to Season 1?  Mark was Chief Resident, but where were the attendings?  Morgenstern dropped by every now and then on his way to someplace else; while Mark was seemingly in charge of everything.  When Susan wasn't around, he didn't even have another ER resident to help him out.  He would've been named in the suit when Jody died, but there should've been an attending supervising him who would've borne the brunt of the blame for the outcome. Then, as the series progressed, Kerry was Chief Resident in Season 2, and she often had Mark around as her attending supervising her. Eventually Chen and then Carter became Chief and they were virtually never alone in the ER without an attending supervising them.  Unless Kerry had a meeting with the detective searching for her mother, there was almost always a boss in the building.

I'm finishing season one (again) now. We talk about the show jumping the shark in later seasons, but even from the start, there was a LOT of totally ludicrous artistic license going on. Example: the way the show treats seizure patients. I have epilepsy. So did my late grandmother. Both of us spent time in the ER after seizures. Neither of us got Ativan for uncomplicated (non-status) seizures the second we rolled through the door before the doctor even looked at us.

Not to mention, the way the show does CPR.

It seems like it is the same for surgery. Benton and Corday are always stuck doing surgery because the hospital only has like 4 surgeons (both of them, Romano, and Anspaugh, although sometimes Dale I guess). And it is usually one of those people assisting another one and you have to wonder how more than two surgeries happens on any given day.

Unless Benton/Corday/Anspaugh has been operating for 77 hours straight and is called into a trauma while walking out of the hospital, then all the mysterious Surgeons X have the flu, broke their leg skiing, or are out of town at their mother-in-law's funeral!

  6. Season one, "Motherhood" -- Lewis delivers her own niece because Coburn is twenty minutes away. In a busy, big city hospital, there was only one OB on duty ("she's doing a crash C-section in four")? Is that level of staffing legit? Also, the birth was entirely too normal for ER, or the caricature ER became later. Shouldn't the baby have been breech or sideways (I'M KIDDING, PEOPLE) or been an alien?

I can't stand Kathleen Wilhoite to this day.

Not necessarily. It's rare, but 47-year-old women can still get pregnant. (Although I forgot if Jackie was older or younger. If older, it works.)

I'm aware of that. One of my aunts had one at 47 (IVF), one great-aunt was even older (natural), and my great-grandmother had her thirteenth at 45 (natural). However, I very much doubt either was the case here as much as the writers not thinking. They needed Mrs. Benton to be old enough that dementia and her physical problems made sense, which they might not have if she were ten years younger.

  8. Season 1 -- Peter's mother turned 76 years old, and Peter was a third-year resident and thus about 29 or 30 years old. So she was 47 when he was born? The writers didn't think that one through.

Yes, she was selfish and a bit narcissistic at times, "all about me" Even with the adoption, she could be upset, she's human,  but she wasn't a good risk. She took enough pills to kill 2 people and that was just to be forgotten less than a year or so later?  I remember the car incident and being mean to Jeanne. Of course if she became a PA it would be different. She bought a home that wouldn't get approved by any mortgage company outside of TV and lives in it without most basic things but then over a few shows, it's pretty nice. She just leaves it so hopefully someone sold it for her or she has a foreclosure added to her credit history. ; )

I always felt for the other nurses, Haleh and others were smart too, they all did the same job, knew what the doctor's wanted before they asked and helped save many lives along side them. I listened to an interview with Yvette Freeman on youtube (Paul Edward Joyce) who didn't get very rich off the show but it paid the bills. It would have been nice to have a show showing her family in one but the writers had so many other characters to deal with. She hated what they did to "Romano" too and you start to see the beginning of the end.  She got the part because of her attitude during the audition which was funny. They copied the trauma rooms so well, I noticed sometimes even the ceiling tiles have water stains on them like a real hospital. They checked all the boxes. ; )

I remember when Carol was dating Shep, and there were holes in her roof with snow coming into the living room. I also remember her mother, Helen, urging her to cozy up to her rich Uncle Miko. In a lot of ways, Carol was a loser.

I get cold sores, too (bane of my life 😞) and I can’t imagine doing a closeup Instagram video while having one!  I just want to hide from the world!

He looks positively ancient. Ever hear of sunglasses, buddy?  Where is his bible degree from?  Liberty or bob Jones or somesuch?

Genetics play a big, big role in wrinkles. Some people are wrinkly at 17, some people are not wrinkly when they're old enough for AARP.

I don't think Nathan went to real college. I'm guessing his "degree" is from some online diploma mill that fundies use.

ETA: I was right. It looks like something called Independent Baptist Bible College, which is not accredited.

Hasn't it always been that way since it was formed?  My earliest memories of it was old timers trying to torture newbies just because they were new and ridiculously clannish behavior by certain cliques.

I'll probably never know, but I'd like to know who in the Bates clan has had COVID.  It would be interesting to me to see what percentage of them has gotten sick.  Did they even consider changing their behavior after the first person got sick?

Jill Rodrigues still running around as if COVID doesn't exist is revolting.

It always was to some extent, but it got really really bad. I'm so sorry, FJers, if some of us don't have time to follow the Duggars and other fundies as closely as you do. FFS.

I wonder if Jill ever gets her eye makeup completely off.

Free Jinger website is confusing I gave up after 5 minutes

I gave up on FJ years ago because it descended into cliquishness, bullying, and virtue signaling like so many other forums. Not only did it cease being fun, it became an ordeal. I went back a year or two ago out of curiosity, and I didn't even recognize the site.

Topic: it's interesting that Amy and Angie both got married "late" by some fundie standards. Maybe they weren't pressured by their parents into marrying young. Ahem.

Justin has major forehead wrinkles when he is talking. Jill had them too but haven't noticed them lately. It is from raising his eyebrows too much and I have them too but I am old and they are only prominent when I raise my brows.  In talking about their relationship he said they were excited about what God has done in this last year. Does that mean they have been dating (I am not saying the C word) for around a year?  So young.  Good luck to them I guess.

It's genetics, not raising his eyebrows too much. Some people are wrinkly at 17, some people aren't wrinkly at 47.

There’s a huge difference between giving your children normal freedoms and actively choosing to exploit them on tv, YouTube, and SM.

Did I miss an announcement that a Duggar child had been kidnapped? Point: it's disingenuous to say that child abductions happen because someone didn't watch their children on their gated property.

Topic: I think Henry is the cutest of the Seewald children so far.

It looked like Henry and Ivy hiked to the garden together.  That’s how child abductions happen.  These people are fools.

Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped from her bedroom, Jaycee Dugard while walking to the school bus stop in a semi-rural area. I can go on and on. Suffocating one's children won't necessarily keep them from harm.

Topic: Ivy looks a lot like Jinger, to me.
