I went to a wedding where the only "free" drinks were water or punch.  Sodas were part of the cash bar.  This wedding still ranks as the worst wedding I have ever been to.  The bride was 19 and had a set budget.  The buffet was skimpy to begin with, but the real kicker was her bridal party going up for seconds before all of the guests had been served.  I was seated at one of the last tables to go up to the buffet and by the time we got there, it was pitiful.  All of the proteins were gone and what remained was some random sides and sauces.  Everyone else before us loaded up their plates assuming the buffet would be replenished, but that was only happening if someone paid for more food, and that was not in the bride's budget and her parents refused to chip in anything.

Sounds like my brother and sister-in-law's wedding. I went to get a Coke and was told it was $1. I said, it's a Coke -- not understanding they were charging me for a lukewarm can of pop. I've never been to a wedding where I was charged for an NA drink. They also ran out of (lukewarm, nasty) food even before the relatives had been fed.

My lying SIL "forgot" to invite the out-of-state sister (me), and when called on it, wrote, "I sent you an invitation but it came back." Uh huh, and I'm the queen of England, you lying liar who lies.

Suzannah looks like Nathan, minus the acne and scarring (or hers is hidden under makeup). Rebekah is wearing a frigging iceberg on her ring finger. Priscilla looks good in that color. Anna looks like she's wearing a burqa without the head covering.

I’m a heathen, but when I first started following the Duggars this is what I thought. I assumed Josh got caught CONSENTUALLY with another girl hooking up in a closet and had to repent. I could tell he was a pompous ass and the other older kids didn’t like him, but even to my jaded heathen self I never thought that meant he was an abuser or would sexual assault his little sisters.

I think they made it sound that way on purpose.

I thought exactly the same. No WAY did I ever think Smuggar Duggar, the painfully geeky pompous fundie boy, was a sexual predator.

  4. Jill looks stressed out, or maybe very tired. Her hair looks unbrushed, and she has bags under her eyes. I hope the Smuggar situation isn't stressing her out, either directly or indirectly via her parents. She deserves better. (They all do.)

I think that was Grandma Duggar's wedding dress. The flowers look plastic.

Jim Bob's suit jacket sleeves don't fit.

The hair, or lack thereof, is no doubt something else for Jim Bob to lord over his kids. Putz.

Joy's dress made her look pregnant.

I feel sorry for her, seeing the difference between her facial expressions in dress #1 and dress #2.

The waist was too high. But wasn't Gideon a honeymoon baby?  I seem to remember her showing early and there were a ton of rumors that they did not wait for the wedding.

She was big even when they first announced. I think it's a combination of her build (busty + shorter = can look thick around the middle) and the fact that she had a huge baby. Jill showed early, too, if I remember.

That was when I still watched and I really think I remember they were from some cheap website and Jana had to fix most/all of them.

That's what I remember, too. I specifically remember some snark that Jessa was given X amount for her entire wedding, reception, and honeymoon, and she and Ben opted for a very extravagant honeymoon instead of meeting halfway on all things.

    I prefer Whitney's first dress.

Her husband (Nathan?) is practically the same color as his suit for the renewal.

Zach. I like her first dress better, too. The bolero was unnecessary for normal, non-fundie people, but the second dress is too close to Pnina for me.

I think Erin was still a teenager when Smuggar got married, but I'm pretty sure Jill and Jessa used her.

She would have been seventeen-ish. It was either Erin, or someone who looks and pounds plays a lot like her. Or I'm nuts.

    Back to Google I go...

This says specifically that Erin played at the rehearsal, and it mentions piano music at the wedding but not who was guilty playing it. https://popculturecrime.medium.com/duggar-dysfunction-a-very-duggar-wedding-cd3e0c7e4d4c

    Kendra's dress is pretty too.

Michelle's dress for Jill's wedding is the stuff of nightmares.

Does anyone remember what wedding had the horrible music by a Bates' girl? I can't figure out how to explain it.  In fact, I feel like maybe it was two weddings (Jill and Jessa)? But it had a Bates girl playing piano who had no concept of less is more, and thought just because she had the technical skills to put a bunch of unnecessary musical frills into the song didn't mean it was a good idea.

If Mullet front-hugged anyone while wearing the tin man dress, she'd put holes in them. Like Madonna falling face-down in the raft, in that old Far Side cartoon.

Didn't Princess Erin punish play the piano at Smuggar's wedding?

On the fake tan subject, maybe it's just the lighting, but poor Kendra looks like she raided Jinger's old stash of agent orange tanner and smeared it all over her arms.

So does her sister. It's supposed to go all over, girls, not just on your arms. (I think it's the lighting.)

  12. 4 minutes ago, BitterApple said:

Lulz! I should've said "natural looking tan." Jinger and Jessa looked like the inside of a butternut squash.

The fake tan industry probably went into mourning when Jinger quit her butternut squash look. Good thing the Kardashians are still around to keep the industry afloat.

    That dress is so Kendra.

It wouldn't work on anyone else, but it's hard to imagine her wearing any other wedding dress.

I'd be ßuprised if he hadn't. They were huge in the '90s in Baptist circles.

Until I saw your post and then googled it just now, I had no idea PK had become big in Canada as well as New Zealand.

Pentecostal/Assembly of God circles too. I knew some AoG men who went to Promise Keepers things in Kansas City. Not coincidentally, the AoG dad I knew was a creep and one of the people who put me off religion for good. I'm not the only person who thought he was molesting his daughters. Their mother thought so too.

Topic: I feel sorry for Ofsmuggar in the sense that she no doubt thought if she did everything right, her life would just fall into place. I think it's fair to say her world is rocked.

Joy’s hair is terrible, and her dress is my least favorite of the Duggar daughters. Overall, though, I think Anna’s look was the worst.

You can definitely tell when the TLC series money, as opposed to the specials, started kicking in. But I really do wonder sometimes if Ofsmuggar's parents didn't care for her much. She got the worst groom, and she didn't even get a dress of her own. David's Bridal doesn't cost that much, FFS.

Note to future Duggarling brides: Jinger is the only one who wore her hair up, and she's also the only one who didn't look sloppy AF. Remember this. It's not a sin to put your hair up on your wedding day.

I'm very profane today. I apologize to any who are offended by my sinful language.

  15. Best Overall

Jinger (so far in the lead, she couldn't be caught)

    Claire (lovely, appropriate)

Lauren (she lost points overall for the hair)

Worst Overall, In No Particular Order

Mullet (the infamous vow renewal with the awful, inappropriate bastardized Kleinfeld's dress)

Joy (did she even brush her damn hair, and wasn't she barefoot?)

Anna (crunchy perm time and her sister's too-short dress. Sometimes I wonder if her parents didn't like her)

Jill (sloppy hair and ill-fitting dress, although I think she'd do much better now)

Amy (holy gross cleavage, but she gets points for doing it even when the zillion Duggar males would be there)

Popular but I Don't Get It

    Jessa's dress and overall look

I don't really remember any of the food or decorations besides the Smuggar wedding (cold cuts and cheap cheese?). I haven't watched the shows since about 2013, so all my snark comes from here.

I feel like the Duggar boys already have a leg up on nicer weddings since the bride's family is almost guaranteed to have better taste.

I do think Jinger's wedding dress/hair/makeup was the best yet, closely followed by Lauren. As for decorations and such, yes, Claire got the best.

Other than Nurie, who do you think had the worst wedding? I vote for Joy in that category.

Why do all of the Duggar boys suddenly have that haircut?

I'm guessing old picture to try to get people not to speculate about pregnancy.

I swear I saw a comment asking them to write a book.

No matter, Carlin is happy for them.

It's either that or shave their heads, and I doubt they'd consider bald melons appropriate for Christians, or some damn thing. Really, there isn't much they can do with their particular pattern baldness.

The Duggars male, younger, are screwed. I wonder if Jim Bob gloats to them that he still has his helmet.

Brooklyn is Josie's middle name. I wonder if there is some family connection to this name?

Brooklyn was super-trendy around the time Precious Miracle was born, IIRC. I don't know why Joe and Ofjoe chose the name for #3.

There's already a Jackson in the Duggar family. Oh wait, it doesn't matter if they have two people with the same or almost the same name. It doesn't matter if they have FOUR people with the same or almost the same name.

my question was who would ever go there for a car. I mean if you wanted a car from a duggar Jed! had the other car lot.

The little toll booth office on a corner with a sign that says no keys, titles or cash kept onsite would make me never go there.

Jed! at least bothered to get fake reviews. Lots of "Local Guides" aka fakes - David Waller, Laura, Dudley Dooright (Justin) Caleb Williams..... Carlin Bates got a car from him.

Duggar car lots are the kind that self-finance, charge 30% interest, and prey on the desperate (or truly stupid). Anybody with a choice or a brain would go to a real dealership.

It was speculated here years ago that John David had the tow truck(s) so that he could repo the cars Smuggar had sold, at his original car lot, to the desperate or dumb. It certainly made sense.

Ben may need to find a better position at a different church.

Joe has a real estate license, which he might have to learn how to use.

Considering the rumors that JB is buying up tons of properties in Northwest AR and raising rents afterward, the family might be okay. And Joe can get business if he's his father's realtor.

Are the rumors credible? Do they say why he's doing that, other than to be a dick?

I agree with all those who have pointed out the difficulties of adjusting to life where operating on "Duggar Time" will get you fired and "we've always done it this way, we learned by watching others" won't fly (haha).

I feel sorry for the Duggarlings. They're fucked, and I think some of them (Jessa, Josiah) might even know it. It would be easier to be dumb and vapid, than to be bright and know your parents screwed you for life.

Yes, that was mentioned in his podcast that I listened to and mentioned in my post. He described that scene, where Josh visibly gulped. He (the narrator) said that afterward he and his dad talked about Josh's reaction since it was so odd, although Josh had gone on to explain the filter stuff on the computer.

What really struck me in that part of his podcast, was the contrast between Josh's workstation with the shiny new iMac and the mess of junky old computers his siblings had to use.  The narrator said that JB said that the local college was going to discard a bunch of old computers so he'd grabbed them. He said the boys had managed to assemble some working computers from all that stuff but the room was like rows of old computers and computer parts. So all the kids had to use those old computers while Joshie lorded it over everybody at his shiny fancy new iMac.

But of course I'm sure all the Duggars were so godly that nobody ever had any resentments over that disparity. /sarcasm

In the Zillion Kids and Moving In special, didn't Smuggar have his own room, too? (I swear  I remember that.) It was the "editing studio" or some BS, but it was Smuggar's alone. Of course, his nine brothers got a big dorm room to share, and his five sisters, who did all the work and were raising the kids, got a smaller dorm that would clearly be too small very soon.

There were times over the years when I thought Jim Bob didn't like Smuggar much, especially a few moments in the On the Road special when Jim Bob's tone on speaking to his son was odd. But there were many more times when it was clear that Smuggar was #1. I wonder if Jim Bob regrets that now.
