We LOVE this show.....every episode, even those where Dre gets all preachy have been some of the best tv on these days. ....except THIS episode. We literally tried 2x to watch it but it just got waaaaay to preachy. We get it.....there were slaves a long time ago. Indigenous peoples were taken advantage of. It really really sucked for them. It should never happen again. They played to their constituents.....good for them. We will continue to look forward to Blackish every week....but this was an episode we will avoid every time it comes back in re runs.

Can we go back 2 weeks...to the scene where the electronics store "executive" (for lack of better term) chews out the staff before firing the lesbian? If that's not the perfect video to have HR dept's show their new leaders under the heading of "how not to run a meeting"..... Where I work, he'd have been fired for at least a dozen different things he said or did in those few minutes. It was absolutely hilarious in an 'over-the-top' way.

It looks like they might actually try to wrap this whole thing up in the next 2 episodes.....thankfully they're not going to try and stretch the story into another season. However....they did mention a new arena/center on the TV...but if they're going to try and tie the boy band concert to it, they're going to have to hurry. If they decide not to go the concert route, then we lose Thing 2, the shaved head...the wheelchair...staying at the motel the night before....the other kids he sees at the show including Jerome's little sister....the whole "being searched" on his way in.....Hodges heart attack....Holly's use of the happy slapper Kind of like having them re-do the original Star wars but leave out the death star.....

Has Alan EVER SEEN THE SHOW BEFORE? Rule #1: Work hard but lay low. Stick your head up and be noticed...especially in a super negative way...is the best way to go home quickly. On the other hand: Chrissy showed her Survivor chops. She knew folks would vote for her or Katrina so she lumped her vote in to ensure Katrina went home. At that point, her using the idol would have been pointless. The person she wanted to go home was going home. The PO reminds me, as well, WAAY to much of Tony. Again.....be a dick, go home. Lastly....can't you see the bell hop in his little bell hop uniform? The pillbox cap...the buttoned up shirt. He'd look like a cartoon version of one for sure!

I LOST my bet with my wife.... ! Ally did not scream and cry at all this episode....I guess that's actually a win for me, even though I lost the bet. We saw Chaz's name in the opening but honestly didn't figure out which character it was until much later. THAT is some awesome acting.....we were very impressed! What was the point of Kai in the shower? It was clear that he wanted to be caught....but to what end?
-
Ally's litany of bad decisions.....let us count the ways.... Approaching the protesters Running over to scream at the neighbors after Mr Guinea went ka-bluey Opening the door to anyone at this point Running in front of the truck spraying the green gas Shooting through her security door Not holding on to Ozy any number of times....the latest being when Ozy just walked into the neighbors house Not firing Winter ....feel free to add yours! The best thing about this latest episode....was Ally FINALLY being told off by Ivy. How much crazy is a partner supposed to forgive? ...and don't forget that it was the weird brother/(ex)sister neighbors that shot the footage of Kai getting beaten..... what's the connection there?

DOES ANYONE KNOW..... if they plan on wrapping the series up in the next couple of episodes or are they going to go the "Dome" route and keep adding seasons even though the story ends up not being ANYTHING like the book? What they did to the Dome was absolutely despicable. So far, no mention of anything related to a Boy Band or their big circus themed concert where all the shit eventually goes down....which worries me that they'll either ignore it and end the series in the next couple weeks.....or that they'll extend it to next year. Both of these are terrible.

Yea....i see Grace .....nowhere these days.

Once they get to the final 2, it was 100% clear that Darci was going to win. There's no chance they would have underage girl singers win 2 years in a row. That said, I echo those who praised Simon for going directly over to Angelica once the winner was announced to talk to her while everyone was congratulating Darci. He's a smart producer and that showed him to also be a decent human being. I've noticed that Darci's jaw is built for her act. There's something....different...about how it's set that I think allows her to sing like she does without her face changing. It is an awesome talent for sure...but will it change as she grows? All i can say is that she absolutely held her own with Fator on stage. She had a week to work on that act and she didn't skip a beat with her patter and back/forth with Terry. Lastly... my wife and I always talk about "Is this act really Vegas-Show worthy?" We would absolutely pay to see a show that had both Diavolo and Light Balance....doing bits back to back like we saw last night. Even Darci, in the end, is a one trick pony (singing ventriloquism), Sara/Hero have serious limitations beyond a 3 min bit and none of the singers were worthy of more than a side show act in a casino bar.

S07.E02: Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
Robodude replied to AmandaPanda's topic in American Horror Story
Is anyone else COMPLETELY tired of Sarah Paulson crying and screaming throughout each AHS series? In Hotel, she had makeup in every episode that made it look like she was constantly crying 24/7. In Roanoke, she ran and cried and screamed and ran and cried and screamed. So far, each episode has had her crying and screaming.....with absolutely no end in sight. I have a bet with my wife that every single episode this year will have her crying/screaming at length. Given how much of a loony tune she is playing this year, I feel safe that I will collect. -
Spot on! The first letter was analyzed by the Det Ret in super detail....phrasing, word choice.... I also saw Brady's mom as being older, stockier....someone who wouldn't be able to get out of her chair later when she eats her last burger... :-) Holly is written as a child/adult....someone mentally withdrawn at an older age. I haven't see who they have playing her... Yes...Hodges with the heavy accent was not what I had in mind AT ALL (love the actor....was awesome in In Bruges....just not right for this role). Trilani's sister Janey was definitely older than Mary Louise-Parker in the book. As much as they make Hodges seem attractive to other women, there's no way I'd believe him getting on top of her later....much less them falling in love with each other. My take on the neighbor (Ida) is that she's being given a much bigger role in the show to set up her being killed by Brady in a way that will really get under Hodges' skin. I can't think of any other reason to push her so hard into the story. Janey will be the love interest later....me thinks this is just a Macguffin of sorts.

I'm thrilled that the early reviews of IT have been mostly over the top positive.....but the idea that they'd somehow be able to replicate "turtles flying through space" at the end seems too much to ask. Actually...I just wish King hadn't gone down that rabbit hole in the book at all. It was spectacular.....sans that BS.
-
I'd only point our poor Dave in Season 3 who, after 73 days, got yanked by medical for being to thin....but had a pile of fish stored... but decided not to eat it so he could stretch his supplies further. Of all the people that I hope comes back for next season, he'd be at the top of my list. I think he could have given Fowler a run for the money if he hadn't made that particular self-inflicted mistake.

You really can't compare Survivor with Alone. As mentioned, not only do they have regular rewards but they always seem to have SOME rice or beans or other food sources.
-
I'll start! First....loved the book....wasn't thrilled about the trilogy...but I digress My first impression from the opening scenes (job fair lineup) was "hey, this is exactly what i envisioned this would look like". But...the Det Ret's accent? The neighbor lady being a focal point early on? Mrs Trilani's backstory, especially the part with the Mercedes dealership and mechanic relating what they recalled? Are they going to switch the "big event" at the end from a boy band concert to a trade show? I haven't seen yesterday's ep yet......so I have great hopes still being that King was a co-producer....

Great observation! If height and weight go together, a 6ft tall woman at 190 is probably in much better physical shape (and therefore better suited to handle the survivor/alone situation) than a 5'2" woman at 190.
-
I REALLY hope this doesn't come across as anything but an observation based on facts available..... It would be GREAT if it happened, but I honestly don't think a woman will ever win Alone. I've mentioned many times about the need to bulk up to handle the extreme weight loss that is inevitable. Each of the past winners were men who had relatively large frames to begin with (even Fowler). They could pack on extra pounds prior to the event and still manage doing the every day tasks while losing huge amounts of their mass. For a woman to win, she'd have to have a decent sized frame to start with which usually (not always, usually) means they aren't "survivor/alone ready" (wood gathering, fishing, shelter building, bear repelling, etc)....then pack on a bunch of lbs going in. It's possible, but maybe not probable. I just don't know if they could go 70-80 days and lose 50-60 pounds and still have medical let them stay. In the end, this is how Fowler won last year. I am SO SORRY to anyone who finds this misogynistic. That is not my intention. Just observations. I would love to see a woman come out on top....just not sure it's feasible.

I hate to say I TOLD YA SO....but I did... Every season's winner did so because they came in with weight to lose. When you think that there were really only 3 teams competing to the end, Brooke didn't have a chance if they didn't catch fish and Sam's dad just didn't have the strength to keep going with no food. The Tweetle Brothers had a whole bag full of those rock fish at the end while the others had nothing. If you saw the reunion show and compared the mass of the Baird Bros to the other teams, you'd have to see that they were simply built better to survive the show. I also mentioned in other threads that the Gingers were going to go further just on their Bro-tastic/Brother's Keeper attitudes. Neither was going to let the other quit....and in the end, when one was down, the other picked it up. ALL THAT SAID....this season was easily the worst so far. Alone should be.... ALONE.

Wow. I just read the Q&A with the season 2 winner (david) and learned some really interesting things. Sorry if this is not new to readers.... He could have been told how many others were left playing during his weekly health checks but he chose not to be told. Q: Before you knew you won, towards the end how many people did you think were still out there? A: “They asked a few times if I wanted to know how many were left and I never let them tell me." Q: Were you worried about running into other contestants? What were the rules about that" A; “They told me I had no limits on where I could go. We carried the Yellowbrick GPS tracker whenever away from camp. They said if I ever got close to someone they would send a tone and tell me to turn around. It was never an issue for me.”

What happened to eating kelp? The winner of Season 2 (Dave) was seen constantly rolling up the kelp leaves...or seaweed...whatever it was...and munching it which didn't provide much nutrition but kept his belly full. He'd go out when the tide was low and grab a bunch as well as whatever he could find in the rocks. This IS the same island from that season... hmmm..

I love the brothers enthusiasm....when there's something for them to be enthusiastic about. That "Bro-raderie" was something I thought would force them through tough times but it looks like Jim The Lazy is going to send them home next week (or whichever of them has stomach issues that they previewed). Give Ted credit. If it were just him...in the "traditional Alone" style, I'd put money on him to go far and maybe even win. He's the one that collected HUNDREDS of limpets and even said "This is how people win this game". I have absolutely no idea how Jim thinks they'll go even another few days without food. One other note... While they said that all their projects have failed, they've built the BEST boat that anyone has ever built on all seasons of Alone. It's too bad they're not smart enough to ensure that the float they're using for the crab trap....the ONLY thing that lets them bring the trap back up...... would actually.....you know.... FLOAT! Dave and Brooke for the win at this point barring some unforeseen circumstance.....or if she shrivels up and medical pulls them.
-
If the other 2 teams tap quickly, I can see Brooke and Dave winning it easily. If this goes another 6 weeks like previous seasons have, Brooke doesn't have the body mass to lose another 40-50 lbs.

I'm REALLY hoping this "fishing episode" is the bottom of the barrel for this season.... my wife and I both mentioned how boring it is to fish...but waaaay more boring to watch someone fish, esp when they're not catching anything (apologies to lovers of fishing). What we DID witness in this ep was the building of the best shelter in all Alone seasons and one of the best boats built as far as being sea-worthy. As much as this isn't my fav season....there are 3 very distinctive teams going about the game in their own distinct way. The Baird Bros were my pick last week after catching so many fish....but they're façade cracked this week when they talked about the experience approaching "torture". That's the beginning of Tap Talk... Should the father/son consider moving camp to where the fish are? Moves like that are gambles but it could resolve their high tide issue and provide them with the desperately needed food. Finally... Do we agree that Brooke and Dave are the best prepped contestants going in that we've ever seen? The fact that they've built and lived in several cabins over their 18 years together.....in very rustic conditions for years....leads me to believe that food is the only thing keeping them from being their for months, something the others won't be able to manage when it gets cold/snowy in the shelters they currently have.

The Tom London phone trick seems pretty obvious to me....but I could be completely wrong. If he's able to connect with the audience's phones to have them display what he transmits to them, it would seem as likely that he could send that same controlled display to a judge's phone. ...and if that's the case, he can simply have someone backstage send the right pre-recorded videos of him in front of famous locations based on the responses each judge gave. Technology....but not a trick IMHO.

Quite the show this week... clearly some have reached "that point" with the show. I'm leaning to that side as well...enjoying this one about 75% as much as the last 3 seasons but it's still better than most of what's on otherwise. The Cajun boys sure didn't represent the South very well...at least one of them. My wife and I were sharing those "Seriously?" looks as the older brother was talking about missing his family and "justifying" tapping out with the BS idea that they'd see him as choosing them over money by going home. 2 freakin' weeks! You knew you were going to miss birthdays and such....that you'd be out there at least 2 months. Chris absolutely guilted Brody into quitting. Dude had just gotten there after killing himself on that hike and, as he said...Chris had already checked out when he got there. My hope is that Brody was thinking about the long game...that he had to live with his brother the rest of his life and since he'd already quit in his head, forcing him to stay there was only going to get worse before it ever got better. Family before funds I guess.... I cracked up when the Baird bros were talking about being "survival experts"....after someone posted last week how funny that disclaimer seemed to be, especially as it related to them (cutting your own hand will do that). I expected them to tap out next but now that they've found food....who knows? I can't even begin to fault them for killing the duck that wandered into camp, it's survival of the fittest and they needed food. Dude didn't hesitate though...3 seconds after seeing it and he LAUNCHED himself at it! Pete and Sam lucked out with the high tide. Pete said something about how he couldn't believe that would ever happen.... after being there only 2 weeks and he fancied himself an expert on the Vancouver Island tides? He also said something about it being "too late" to move camp....if you have water flooding your tent, it is never too late to move (IMHO). You got a good idea of the strength of the storms in some of the footage of them fishing in the wind/rain. The way it was sheeting across the water like it was....I know I've never seen it storm that hard. Folks here wondered why the show would spend so many episodes on the hiking part... with only 3 teams left, it's starting to make sense. How many episodes are left? Here's my take on the rest of the show from here and my rank of those most likely to win and why (in order): Baird Bros: If they can keep catching fish, they have the body bulk, youth and (I'll call it) Bro-chismo to get through tough times. They feed off each other (good and bad) and, unlike Chris/Brody, I can't imagine one of them trying to quit without the other kicking his ass and telling him to man up. Brook/Dave: If only for the cabin they're building. They need to get a decent food source because Brook is pushing herself harder than she should and won't let Dave tell her to slow down. Bottom line is that she doesn't have the body bulk to survive losing another 40 lbs like all other previous winners had to endure. Pete/Sam: If it were just Sam, I'd be more likely to see him going to the end but I fear Pete's age may be too big a liability. They need everything to go right for them to outlast the other teams.....they have the skills to catch fish but they need a better shelter and better attitudes.
